Hypoxia and Medicine

Christmas menu - works doo, carnt eat the food but need a medical condition for them to change menu?

There is fish and lamb on the menu and i only eat beef as all other meats and fish seem to give me sickness and diarrhea. They will only change the menu if you have an allergy or medical condition why you carnt eat the food. Does anyone know if such a condition or allergy medically exists? Wont each the vegitarian option either.

  1. Sounds to me like you DO have an allergy, if Lamb and fish make you sick. Just because its not your usual "nut" allergy its still an allergy!
  2. There sure are allergies of your intestines, so to speak, which would explain why when you eat these foods your stomach revolts. It's like they get down there and you digestive track immediately needs to get them out cause they don't belong there. Kind of like people who can't drink milk. It doesn't make them wheeze and sniffle like most allergies we think of, the problem is on the inside.
  3. Unfortunately lamb has a very low allergy rate! Fish however, you can be allergic to fish and this can be very severe. You could say that you only eat kosher (halal) meat for religious reasons! Either that or eat before you go and just drink all the free wine!
  4. If you are that fussy or difficult just don't bother going, nothing ruins a meal out more than someone moaning that they can't eat anything on the menu just because. If the only meat you can eat without getting sick is beef then you should really go and see a doctor or the person that cooks for you does not know how to cook the fish and meats properly.
  5. Does it 'seem' to give you sickness or does it give you sickness? You won't eat the vegetarian option. Are you allergic to vegetables too? If you're that fussy you'll just have to have a liquid lunch and embarass yourself due to drunken behaviour.
  6. Eat before you go and enjoy the rest of the night. I used to have the same problem at my hubby's work do - smoked salmon, then something cooked in alcohol that just smelt disgusting, waitress used to take pity on me though so I always got 2 sweets!
  7. If you get diarrhoea when you eat fish or lamb then you probably have a mild food allergy. I get stomach cramps and sickness from peppers. My GP said it was a mild food allergy even though it is more like food poisoning... It is unusual for a caterer to refuse to change the menu or provide special meals as they don't want anyone going about saying they were sick after the meal. show them this http://hcd2.bupa.co.uk/fact_sheets/html/food_allergy.html
  8. From what I've read on food allergies (and I used to be a specialty chef for various diets, including allergy, wheat/gluten free, Chinese medicine, macrobiotic, and others), there are no true allergies to red meat. However, I will also say that physicians are incorrect often enough that I don't trust them implicitly. I had a cooking colleague who would break out in hives from touching lamb/mutton. People are allergic to all sorts of things. The difficulty will be finding a physician who is patient and cooperative enough to establish your diagnosis--it usually takes time and repeated tries to be diagnosed with a food allergy, unless you come up positive immediately on an allergy skin test. In any case, you are probably going to have a difficult time doing this in time to get your dinner changed. If you can get to a doc, then do it. If you cannot, I think you have other, more diplomatic considerations. As you can see from the other responses to your question, few things rankle people more than picky eaters, no matter the reason. If maintaining a peaceful rapport with your employer is important--and they aren't sympathetic--then I suggest that you quietly let it slide for this meal. Even though your condition is most likely legitimate, you could be seen as remiss in not having done anything about it until the last moment, forcing people to change the rules to suit you, which is poor etiquette. Eat first, and enjoy the evening without food. And do get yourself checked out. It's probably not the best for you to have to forgo so many healthy, tasty options.
  9. ask your gp but really how can anyone be forced to eat what they don't like? not very hospitable...if they won't help you out take your own food in a container...
