What is the Dead Zone about from the Stephen King book?

1. I've been watching the TV series based on the book. basically, a guy is in a car accident and is in a coma for 6 years. When he wakes up the world is a different place and he's different - when he touches a person or sometimes thing, he can see things that have happened or that will happen. Based on watching the show, I want to read the book but hadn't gotten around to it yet. I think the book does have soem of the political/apocolyptic storyline that's in the TV series.
