I Just Heard "ACS" In a Plavix Ad Again, Does "Idiopathic Transient Myocardial Ischemia", Mean the Same Thing?
Public Comments
- Idiopathic is of unknown origin - don't know the reason The transient part means passing myocardial has to do with the heart ischemia is an attack or twinge Damn - that felt like a heart attack - but wasn't.
- Yes and no. ACS is Acute coronary syndrome, which covers stable angina, unstable angina, and myocardial infarction (both STEMI and NSTEMI- terms describing EKG changes). Idiopathic Transient Myocardial Ischemia is a type of angina, one of the diseases covered under the umbrella term ACS. Plavix is used in the treatment of ACS because it is an anticoagulant since these people are at risk for an myocardial infarction (i.e. heart attack).
