What is the difference between angina and ischemia?

Public Comments

  1. Angina = 1. Any disease of the throat or fauces marked by spasmodic attacks of intense suffocative pain 2.A heart condition marked by paroxysms of chest pain due to reduced oxygen to the heart & Ischemia = Local anaemia in a given body part sometimes resulting from vasoconstriction or thrombosis or embolism
  2. Angina is the term used to describe chest pain due to myodardial ischemia. Ischemia is the term to describe any part of the body that is experiencing decreased or interrupted blood flow.
  3. Ischemia means the restriction of hema (blood) It is a restriction in blood supply, generally due to factors in the blood vessels, with resultant damage or dysfunction of tissue. The key word is damage. It can happen any where you have blood flow. Angina is the pain you feel from the ischemia I feel mine in the heart & eyes And boy does it ever hurt ! If you are having an Ischemia Attack you are getting/having more damage to the tissue. But if you are have a Angina Attack you are feeling the pain from the already damaged tissue BUT an angina attack can cause more damage so you have to have it checked by an EMT/ER Dr. .. They can not know which one it is with out a blood test. BOTH require emergency care.
  4. The angina is the chest pain and it's the consequence of ischemia(poor bloodflow in heartmuscle).
  5. I believe that angina is lack of oxygen to the heart muscle due to high blood pressure or stress and causes pain. Ischaemia means the damage caused due to stress or a clot.
  6. angina is the pain related to heart ischemia.. it can feel like an elephant on your chest, left arm or shoulder pain, occ rt arm pain. and other rarer complaints. it is usually accompanied by cold sweats, dizziness, palor. Ischemia is blockage of a artery or vein by plack or clot or other means, sometime beta hemolytic streptococcus will colonize near the heart andreally muck up the works. What to worry about though is Ischemia can only be compensated for a short time, then it becomes a myocardial infarction = cell death in the ischemic area.. don't let it go there..
  7. angina means chest pain -- however not all chest pain correlate to heart problems. ischemia -- is lost of blood supply to the heart muscle, therefore this causes a pain in that certain are. myocardial ischemia, if untreated will eventually turn into myocardial infarction -- where in the muscle dies because of lack of blood supply and oxygen.
