SleepMD/Melatonin and Asthma/Allergies, Safe?

I have moderate insomnia, I've been on Ambien and decided to try something natural instead. I picked up SleepMD because it contained many herbs plus melatonin all in one package and I had heard these were all things that could help. Researching online I learn that melatonin could have serious side effects for people that suffer from allergies and asthma. I have chronic asthma and severe allergies all year long. Has anyone with these conditions used SleepMD/Melatonin without suffering serious consequences? I had read it could cause inflammation of the airways, which is what has me wary. The only reason I'm even considering using this supplement is because I'm so desperately lacking sleep and rest. I'm not doing well financially and am lacking medical insurance so consulting a doctor or using prescriptions isn't really an option -thus another reason why I had to stop Ambien. It also wasn't effective after a while. Any suggestions/advice would be appreciated, thanks. Sorry if this is in the wrong section ^^; I just used the primary section Yahoo suggested.

  1. I used to have moderate insomnia myself years ago... I tried everything there was and either it didn't work or it left me feeling groggy in the morning. I found some meditation or relaxation tapes (as you can tell it was some time ago) and played them and it helped. One that really helped me was reading before bed, keeping a constant bed time, and when I laid down to go to sleep I would take a deep breath and as I exhaled I would imagine myself sinking into the bed... after about 4 or 5 breaths I was out like a light. Some people have told me that tylenolPM helped them. It could be a sinus problem also, when your financial/insurance situation gets better try and see and ENT doctor, I'm almost positive they could help you not only get more sleep but get more quality sleep. p.s. the deep breaths helped me with my asthma also.
  2. I have severe sinus/allergy and breathing issues, I don't have asthma though. I just used sleepmd last night, slept thru the night and was able to get up on time without feeling groggy. I didn't have any issues with it and thought it worked rather well.
