Hypoxia and Medicine

i have been experiencing chronic insomnia for 7 months now?

i have taken every dr prescribed sleeping pill from my psychiatrist and to no avail. is it possible i could have another medical condition causing insomnia. i am also on 225 mg of effexor xr but i was having problems sleeping before i was even taking that which makes me believe it couldnt be the effexor causing the sleep disturbance. can anyone help?

  1. i tried oxazepam, serax, etc.. no effect.. ive had insomnia for years and they didnt help (mine was from chronic pain) but out and out sedatives did work, after a while of my body getting used to them. insomnia doesnt 'just happen' on its own.. there is a cause and effect.. come to understand and research the cause and you will better be able to address it... sedatives might help.
  2. It is possible that you could have another condition like sleep apnea that is causing your insomnia. You may need to go to a sleep clinic. If you have a university hospital near you they should have one there. Are you having trouble falling asleep or staying asleep? Also, what sleep medications have you tried?
  3. You could absolutely have a physical condition causing the insomnia. You need to see a sleep specialist. One who is a real doctor, not a shrink. Mine is a shrink, and he's useless. All he can do is give me more/different sleeping pills. More/different sleeping pills will not work until you treat the underlying condition. You have something causing an excess of adrenaline. Is it a thyroid problem? Pituitary? The adrenal glands themselves? It could be a million things. You need a really good doctor (I know, hard to come by) willing to work with you and do tests (i.e. do their job.)
  4. Insomnia (sleeplessness) is due to stress, dietary and medical problems. By making small lifestyle changes like having a fixed daily routine, relaxing and eating properly, insomnia can be cured. I found the information at http://tinyurl.com/jfzpz useful for getting sleep.
