Hypoxia and Medicine

Post Concussion shock(hypoxea), if some-one suffers hypoxia,posthead neck/ injury for unspecified time ,?

What is the prognosis if that person survives, can this cause permanent disability.Usually known as secondary injury(assault), when with head injury/concussion.

1. In all honesty there NO black& white answer for this diagnosis. You'll read many texts books and or internet sites and I guarantee they all give thier own version of "an alledged answer". But going on the info you gave ( main problem is the unknown time of unconsciousness of the person. What was his status when he was found? What was status when he regained consciousness? Any neurological or physical deficits? Most patients have an MRI or CAT scan immediately, and follow ups also.These will give you indicators of damage left, also you must go on the person daily level of activities,functions, and pain, or memory problems? So my only answer is YES and NO. Each person , and each trauma is different. PS Important to give as much support to them as possible. Believe I know and seen first hand the power of "a good support system" hope this helps
2. there is no solid answer for this question b/c every person and injury for that matter is different. there are several factors to consider -how was the person injured (or how severely) -what specific injuries did he/she sustain -were there any pre-existing conditions/diseases -how quickly was medical treatment administered while not exactly the same-shock and hypoxia (low oxygen in the blood) are closely tied together. shock is caused when there is not adequate blood flow/supply to the body which results in hypoxia. both of these things can cause permanent disability and damage. if the brain is deprived of adequate blood flow or oxygen-parts of it will start to die, resulting in permanent brain damage. this depends on how long the brain is deprived of the blood or oxygen or where exactly it occurs. for example-if the frontal lobe of the brain is deprived of oxygen-then there could be permanent damage in one's memory,problem solving capabilities, or motor function. but if the brain stem is deprived-then death is highly likely b/c the brain stem is the control center for the body-it gives the body directions to breath, circulate blood,etc. some people can experience severe head trauma or shock and recover completely or w/minor disabilities whereas others are critically disabled for life and in worst cases, some people do not survive. it really depends on the individual person's case. hope this helps!!
