results when a brain region is deprived of blood or exposed to prolonged ischemia?

  1. This is what happens in a stoke, the area of brain is unable to function without blood supply/oxygen and may even die if the ischemia lasts long enough. The exact effects on the body would depend on which part of the brain was deprived.
  2. A brain attack or stroke occurs when the brain is deprived of oxygen. Ischemic stroke can happen when a blood vessel in the brain is clogged by a blood clot or some other particle. Because of blockage part of the brain doesn't receive the blood it needs. Deprived of oxygen (ischemia), affected brain cells can't function and die within minutes. When brain cells can't function, the part of the body controlled by these cells can't function either. Stroke effects are often permanent because dead brain cells aren't replaced.
