Does the Gulf of Mexico oil spill coincide with the dead zone from Mississippi River run off?

1. No these are two separate phenomena that happen to be very close to each other. The dead zone is from runoff from the Mississippi River reaching the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico, and has been happening for years. This oil spill is on the surface and has only been around for a few days
