Hypoxia and Medicine

The only possible cause of death is hypoxia, right?

If you put it really generally, then hypoxia (lack of oxygen) is the only way to die, right? I mean, that's what it comes right down to.

  1. That, medically, is a mechanism of death. The cause of death is whatever caused the ANoxia.
  2. No. I think you may need some more clarity or added information to your question. There are many ways to die other than hypoxia.
  3. You must clarify your question. Hypoxia is not the only cause of "death."
  4. Well, yes, I guess ultimately everyone dies because of lack of oxygenation of tissues. If your heart stops, you pass out because of low blood flow, but you don't ultimately die until the oxygenation drops so far that your cells stop working. There are many causes ultimately that lead to this. Trauma, acidosis, hypoventilation, poisoning, arrhythmias, etc. But yes, the final mechanism of death is a lack of oxygenation of the tissues.
