  1. Those sounds like 2 different job descriptions... I suspect there are more online transcription courses than job openings. Here's a reply from a home transcriptionist here a while ago i do medical transcription at home. used to work in an office but had to switch to a home career when it was clear that husband's condition was only going to deteriorate, which it did. i still have one kid at home & he's at an age where daycare is too "young" & being left home alone isn't an option i'd consider for more than a short time. being at home has been great. i have a regular shift, but most of it is done while son is in school. when he is on school vacation, he sleeps in enough that half my work day is done by the time he wakes up. it took 8 months of online school to get ready for this job & then 3 months of job hunting, but it's been well worth it to make the switch. i work for great people & love the job. the income doesn't match my old office salary, but now i don't have to buy "office" clothes, don't have to drive to work, no lunch out every day, no make up, no daycare, so my expenses have gone down enough that the reduced income isn't felt so much. when we have emergencies, it's easy to handle those & then finish my shift when things are back in control.
