Is ischemia reversible and what is the best medical treatment?

My mother has ischemia and I want to know what the best medical treatment for this and is it reversible?

  1. Yes, so ischemia simply is the best medical treatment.
  2. Sometimes yes and sometimes no..they will have to do tests to see..if it is reversible ischemia then they can do a cardiac catheterization and either put a stent in or ballon the area..look up PTCA...if it is irreversible ischemia then sometimes it calls for a bypass surgery (open heart surgery) and sometimes the docs will opt to treat with surgery..talk to a cardiologist about your options..good luck
  3. mother rose - "Ischemia" means there is an insufficient or deficient supply of blood to a body part (as the heart or brain) that is due to obstruction of the inflow of arterial blood (as by the narrowing of arteries by spasm or disease). Depending upon the exact cause and location of the narrowed blood channel, treatment can vary. In the head, a blockage of a carotid artery can be cleaned internally by a surgical procedure called a carotid endarterectomy. In the heart's coronary artery a similar procedure or a coronary artery bypass can be highly successful. A similar situation exists in the legs where a bypass artery graft may be considered. Discuss this with your mom's doctor, if possible.
  4. Ischemia occurs in a vessel when the localized region is not receiving a adequate supply of oxygen. Usually tissue death followed by our body's immune response causes the region to become occluded or blocked. Once the tissue dies it is dead, however their are treatments that can stimulate the formation of collateral vessels around these blocked regions. Enhanced ElectroCounter Pulsation (EECP) therapy has been proven to stimulate collateral vessel formation in the heart along with provide relief from angina symptoms (chest pain).
