Hypoxia and Medicine

How likely is it that I have HIV or other major medical condition?

Im freaking out because my doctor requested on HIV test due to my symptoms, among other tests (thyroid problems, diabetes, pegnancy/miscarriage, hepitits vitamin deficiencies, syphilis, etc). I have had 4 sexual partners since april, with all of them i used condoms, every time. But now i have symptoms of HIV and i am FREAKNG OUT. First I had an episode in late June when I lost my appetite and lost tons of weight really fast, but this was right after I majorly rejected by a guy I had a crush on, so i was pretty upset. I gained the weight back and went back to normal. Then in august I went backpacking for a month which had me pretty stressed since i hadn't planned it well and i left the day after my summer exams. The day i arrived I started my period early and I had my period for almost 2 months, heavy but on and off. During that time I caught a really bad cold with fever (result of having wet hair on a 14hour freezing cold airconditioned bus ride, i always get sick super easily in these situations), no diarreah, no headache or body aches though, but a pretty bad fever (self-diagnosed). As it was going away, it turned into a bacterial sinus infection (acute maxillary) and i took antibiotics, antihistamines and steroids prescribed by my doctor (also gave me an injection of who knows what), which gave me many side effects including night sweats, which are also a symptom of HIV. I am super sensitive to medications, i always get the side effects, but have never had night sweats, so i don't know if they are symptoms or side effects, but they stopped after i stopped the meds. I was also stressed majorly at this point because yet another guy broke my heart, way worst this time, and i was reeeeallly upset over it (still am, but thats another story). I was also getting heart palpitations, same time i started the meds, but they havent really stopped since. Im used to getting palpitations/arrythmia though. The sinusitis hurt my teeth so i couldnt each much, and i lost a ridiculous amount of weight yet again. This fits with thyroid problems. That was over a month ago, and last week I caught another cold, which went away after a couple days with no other symptoms. I looked up HIV and my symptoms fit... but they could also fit stress and bad cold, or a thyroid problem, or an infection, or.... etc. I've been vaccinated for Hep A andB. Also, I always use condoms! It should be noted I have an anxiety disorder, so i am sensitive to stress and side effcts of medications. What does it sound like MOST??? Just stress and a bad cold/sinus infection, HIV, thyroid problems... what??? Im so freaken scared im going out of my mind!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I feel like im going insane... i cant do anything else but worry... also, i have a freckle/mole on my arm that recently changed colour and oddly peeled off a layer. Its edges apprear to be turning whitish. I forgot to show my doctor today (kinda freaked over the HIV and thyroid problems, it slipped my mind) but i need to get it checked out, it seems to fit the symptoms of skin cancer. wtf, am i going to die???? Or am i a major hypochondriac???? Im freaking out so bad!!!!!!!Im going INSANE with fear!!!!

  1. Relax. Just because your doctor ordered tests on those doesn't mean you've got them. I know you didn't mention it but once, but your doctor's probably checking for diabetes because diabetics get ill very easy and can lose tons of weight quickly if their blood glucose is out of control. Just wait for your doctor's results, and if you've got an issue THEN you have a license to freak out.
  2. You never know until the results come out. Calm down. it might be negative. If you really have Hiv, they have a medication to help you live longer. Everyone will die some time in the world. Its just depending on when. I hope your test turns out well. Goodluck.
  3. I like EMZC's answer. He/she gave a reference to the Samaritans in Britain. Since I think you are living in North America, check you phone book for your local help line, Distress Centre or crisis center. Sams have branches in the US north east.
