WHAT IS THE MEDICAL TREATMENT,DIETERY PRECAUSION AND RECOMMENDED EXERCISE FOR REVERSIBLE ISCHEMIA?

- Assuming you've had a nuclear stress test to diagnose the ischemia, the next step might be a cardiac catheterization with possible intervention. You would be placed on a low fat, low cholesterol diet and possibly cholesterol medications as cholesterol is what causes clogged arteries and ischemia. If during the cath they place a stent you would be put on Plavix daily which would keep the stent patent in the artery.
- You have not stated which part of the body is affected by ischemia. Block in the arteries are treated with streptokinase or tPA. An arteriogram is an imaging test that uses x-rays and a special dye to see inside the arteries. It can be used to see arteries in the heart, brain, kidney, and many other parts of the body. Angioplasty is the technique of mechanically widening a narrowed or obstructed blood vessel; typically as a result of atherosclerosis. Tightly folded balloons are passed into the narrowed locations and then inflated to a fixed size using water pressures some 75 to 500 times normal blood pressure (6 to 20 atmospheres). Angioplasty is done in the cartid arteries, coronary arteries, peripheral arteries, etc. Blood thinners such as aspirin, Clopidogrel or Warfarin will be administered. Medicines will be prescribed according to the nature of other diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia etc. Diet consists of low fat fat, oils, cholesterol and salt. Eat a low-cholesterol, low-fat diet, which includes cottage cheese, fat-free milk, fish, vegetables, poultry, and egg whites. Use monounsaturated oils such as olive, peanut, and canola oils or polyunsaturated oils such as corn, safflower, soy, sunflower, cottonseed, and soybean oils. Avoid foods with excess fat in them such as meat (especially liver and fatty meat), egg yolks, whole milk, cream, butter, shortening, pastries, cakes, cookies, gravy, peanut butter, chocolate, olives, potato chips, coconut, cheese (other than cottage cheese), coconut oil, palm oil, and fried foods.
- Reversible iscaemia is not a really clear cut term. I guess this means that you had a positive stress or exercise test. basically this does however indicate IHD,iscaemic heat disease. Though a low fat diet and regular vigorous exercise, and of course being a total non-smoker may slow or inhibit progression, the disease is still there. Next step is usually angiography to locate the areas of narrowing in the coronary vessels and ideally angioplasty them an insert stents where possible and appropriate. If this is not an option CABG may be the answer. (coronary artery bypass.) As well as these surgical interventions medication may be required or it may be used as an alternative in patients unsuitable for the procedures.
- REVERSIBLE ISCHEMIA or Cardiac ischemia? Cardiac ischemia occurs when blood flow to the heart muscle is decreased by a partial or complete blockage of a coronary artery. Treatment is directed at improving blood flow to the heart muscle and may include: Medication such as aspirin, beta-blockers, and nitrates, suppression of cholesterol even in those with statistically normal cholesterol levels, control of blood pressure, blood sugars , regular exercise and a healthy diet. Smokers are encouraged to stop smoking. During a heart attack, thrombolytic agents, or "clot-busters”, may be used, Angioplasty or stent placement, Coronary artery bypass surgery. Exercise may improve blood flow to the heart muscle after the condition is stabilized. Take care as always!
