Gas laws and baseball? why can you hit a ball farther at high altitudes?

Why can you hit a ball farther at high elevations? What do gas laws have to do with baseball? Charles Law, Boyles Law, etc.

Public Comments

  1. At higher altitudes the air is much thinner causing less drag on the baseball when hit.
  2. From Boyles Law Pi Vi = Pf Vf when going to higher altitudes, pressure decreases so volume increases - air is less dense so it has less friction so balls can travel farther
