Hypoxia and Medicine

Is it pleurisy or not? I am sick of second opinions and guessing.?

Hi, I am a nineteen year old female in generally good health. I have never had any serious medical conditions. About six weeks ago I took a trip to the emergency room with severe pains in my chest, almost under my breast bone. The doctors took several tests, including blood samples, and an EKG, and an X-ray. They found nothing abnormal, and ruled out that it must be dry pleurisy. They told me to take 800mg ibuprofen for a week. Six weeks later, and I still have these random pangs in my chest. It radiates to my back ,and switches from place to place in my general upper body area. I want to know, could these symptoms be something besides pleurisy? Also, is it normal for pleurisy to last this long? Any answers and I'll take them. Thank you.

  1. Go see a pulmonologist.
  2. I get pleurisy every couple of years and it is so painful and hard to breathe. Dont know of anything that Im doing to bring it on. When I get it I usually keep it for 3 or 4 weeks. Yes it does linger. Several years ago I had to put up with it for a couple months. Some steroids will help to dry up that problem area. Do you live in a humid climate? That seems to make it worse. Good luck.
