Will my medical condition stop me from joining the USMC?!?
hemorrhagic telangiectasia is a rare inherited disorder characterized by malformations of various blood vessels usually resulting in excessive bleeding (hemorrhaging). Chronic nosebleeds are often the first apparent symptom associated with hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia. Malformation of various blood vessels may result in abnormalities affecting various organ systems of the body including the lungs, brain, and liver. HHT is inherited as an autosomal dominant trait. I haven't had any problems with it in 6 years. Will this stop me from joining the USMC? Is there a way I can work around it?

- no you cant join
- yes
- More than likely yes you will be disqualified. Key words "but not limited to" Hemorrhagic disorders. Current or history of coagulation defects (286) to include, but not limited to von Willebrand’s Disease (286.4), idiopathic thrombocytopenia (287) , or Henoch-Schönlein Purpura (287.0), is disqualifying Again "not limited to" Current or history of abnormalities of the arteries and blood vessels (447), including, but not limited to aneurysms (442), atherosclerosis (440), or arteritis (446), are disqualifying. Talk to a recruiter if they think it might be possible for you to get a waiver. If they say yes I would get all your documentation from your doctor.
- If you have some condition that makes you bleed easier then I regret to say you are probably out of luck... at least for combat MOSs.
- Yes this is going to be a disqualify, sorry. It is to much of a risk to your health. Please do not think of trying to get in by not telling either. If you are caught late, which you will be with this, you can get it for fraudulent enlistment. Kiss your career goodbye.
