how do potato chips get transported to high altitudes without exploding?
while traveling over a high altitude mountain our chip bags began to explode from pressure.....how do all the chip distributers get chips over those mountains and why don't the bags exlode in the stores up high in he mountains

- Some bags explode and some don't . The ones that do go in the trash. :( Sometimes chips are manufactured at elevation and there is no bloating.
- They would be transported in a pressurized cabin, the same as the planes we travel in are pressurized.
- The atmospheric pressure decreases as altitude increases. This means that, bags filled at low altitude will expand as they go up a mountain. The way to deal with this is to minimize the amount of air that is in the sealed bags. That way there is plenty of room for the air to expand as the outside pressure decreases. The pressurized cabin is an interesting solution that would work until the seal was broken on the truck. Then we would have the same problem as before. A refrigerated truck would work like this also.
