Why are diabetics more prone to silent ischemia?

- Hyperinsulinity (especially Type II diabetes) causes the smooth muscles in the arteries to become thicker, increasing blood pressure and enhancing the blood flow restriction from the fat oxidation (cholesterol/plaque formation) from the high blood sugar.
