Seasonal anoxia was a serious problem in the central basin of Lake Erie for many years. How would you account for the fact that seasonal anoxia was never a problem in Lake Washington, although the phosphorus concentration in Lake Washington just prior to diversion of sewage discharges from the lake in the 1960s was about four times higher than the phosphorus concentrations in Lake Erie at the peak of eutrophication?
