My house is a dead zone, why? And what can i do?

So we live in a house int the city. We have had both bell and rogers wireless, and the internet we get SUCKS! we rarely have full bars, and most/ a lot of the time, we cant even use our own netwrok! right now im using the neighbours wifi. what is wrong with our house? WHY WHY WHY?

1. The position of the router. It must be as high as possible, totally clear of obstructions and heavy electrical equipment. And using your neighbour's wireless is illegal unless you have both the owner's and their ISP's express consent. You can get 5 prison years for this. Also anyone in the area can be reading every word you send on an open connection.
2. call the company and complain if they dont do anything, persist and keep on calling them they'll eventually have to do something, but if you live in New York, you're screwed
