Is it possible to survive a car accident like Johnny Smith in The Dead Zone?

And I mean in the book. Lets say if you did get some kind of head injury sometime before the accident, would it keep you from dying in some horrifiic car accident(although there was still the comatose thing). and no, I am not worried about the whole being able to see the future thing, cause it's not possible.

1. I think the head injury is what you would die from in a car accident. At least that is what my dad died of when he had his car accident--blunt force trauma to the head.
