Most painful medical condition?

What is the most painful medical condition or accident that you have been through, such as kidney/gall stones, broken limbs, being shot, childbirth and others? I'm just curious to find out what actually causes the most pain for a person.

Public Comments

  1. kidney stones, by far the worst pain - followed by severe headaches (for ME)
  2. A burn is probably the most painful condition. My father had a dislocated shoulder and he said that was extremely painful.
  3. My husband had a gall stone get up into a pancreatic duct. This caused a rare type of pancreatitis . The doctors said his pancreas was actually eating itself. And the pain is suppose to be some of the worst a humane can have. He is fine now, after 6 months in ICU, no food for 6 months, and lots of morphine. And finally removal of the gall bladder and the stone.
  4. bone death. It's rare, but supposed to be the worst possible pain.
  5. Having an infected cyst removed from my labia. I'm know known as "the screamer," I'm sure, at the drs. office. It was hands-down the worst thing I've ever been through, and I've had two hard labors.
  6. On a personal level, I'd have to say a migraine. It feels like someone is drilling a hole in your head.
  7. A DRY SOCKET!!! AFTER WISDOM TEETH EXTRACTION.
  8. I havent really experienced this personally (thankfully) but I do work at the hospital and among the loudest screamers are those involved in car accidents. I attended to a patient who got run over and his elbow joint popped out of the skin... man... he screamed a lot so I guess thats the most painful.
  9. I have been through almost 72 hours of childbirth and I would rate THAT as a SECOND top my condition and side effects by it. Achalasia. Child birth was a piece of cake for me compared to this condition. Achalasia is where the osephagus goes into spasms or really severe cramps, every time you eat, drink or in my case, swallow saliva. The spasms go for almost 24/7 as we are all constantly swallowing our saliva. And everyone at some stage has to eat or drink. I avoided both eating and drinking because of the pain but lost 55kg's or 110 pounds and had a feeding tube to bypass my oeshagus surgically implanted into my stomach to prevent malnutrition. I would describe the pain as an alien coming out of my chest wall. Excactly like in the movie Alien. And that goes all day and all night. It may ease off for a while but then come back twice as bad. It is so severe that 300mg's of Morphine, Morphine patches and tablets plus muscle relaxants took the edge off but did not 'fix' the pain. It was still pretty bad with all that. Very, very, very painful. So much so that after 5.5 years of this daily, constant pain I was on the brink of suicide. And who could blame me.
  10. I suffer from cluster headaches .....a headache I hear how bad can that be ...... err morphine doesnt work on them, most sufferers have been known to hurt then selves when in a bout, and it used to be known as suicide headaches...I know several people who have tried and failed and only one sufferer who succeeded. It stops me drinking alcohol... bringthem on I get them an hour after I fall a sleep for 15 to 200 mins then I fall asleep exhausted then wake up an hour later. On the bright side I only get them2 to 4 months a year I have freind who get them 5 times a day every day for 10 years. Think of the torture basics of pain and sleep deprivation all rolled into one. There is a scale of pain and this condition according to neurologists and fellow sufferers is worse than pregnancy and the one before you pass out. Ever smacked the very top of your head on a shelf and for 1 second you cant speak dont know what to do just want to hit things your self the wall anything ..... wellextend the areaof pain fromthe crown of your head to your neck and make it last for 1to3 hours repeat 4 to 8 times a day for 60 days ...... you get the concept and there is the fact it is always there looking over your shoulder.......On the bright side I may grow out of it in my 70s and IT wont kill me only I can do that. take care
