my brother has a condition in wich he becomes ill after consuming alcoholic beverages ,we need the medical or clinical name for this condition. All we know is it causes a alergic like reaction and want to look up more info but need the exact name or close match name to do so We are not looking for alchol dependency info...he is needing a clinical name for the problem that occures when he consumes alcohol , but only because some foods are prepared with alcohol in restaurants and other places and he has a sensetivity to it that effects him like a alergic reaction

  1. I'm not aware of any name for it. It's always just been classified as a food allergy. It's like being allergic to shellfish. You don't say I have "xiouieownsoosia." You say, "I'm allergic to shellfish."
  2. I don't know the Latin, but it's alcohol intolerance in American.
  3. why look for the name of the illness, just tell him not to drink and he is cured! it's kind of like asking a dr. why does it hurt when i poke my eye with my finger? and his reply will be stop doing that!
  4. Detoxification Detoxification is the first phase of treatment. Withdrawal from alcohol is done in a controlled, supervised setting in which medications relieve symptoms. Detoxification usually takes 4 to 7 days. Examination for other medical problems is necessary. For example, liver and blood clotting problems are common. A balanced diet with vitamin supplements is important. Complications associated with the acute withdrawal of alcohol may occur, such as delirium tremens (DT's), which could be fatal. Depression or other underlying mood disorders should be evaluated and treated.
  5. Look up aldehyde-dehydrogenase deficiency. AKA Asian flush Highly prevalent in the Asian race. nearly half of all Asians have non-functional copies of the ALDH2 gene and that causes lack of aldehyde-dehydrogenase, increased level of acetaldehyde and you have your allergic-like symptoms.
