Is there a medical condition that systematically mimics other medical complaints?
Had loads of medical problems with physical symptoms all requiring me to see hospital specialists i.e. skin splitting on hands and feet (2 episodes both times lasting about 3 years) had allergy tests and only the sticking plaster with the patches on caused a reaction! A whole range of gynae probs (no periods, heavy periods, continuous bleeding, secondary infertility, miscarriage, an ovarian cyst showing on a scan but it had disappeared by the time treatment was arranged) , abnormal smear tests, hair thinning, underactive thyroid blood test was positive but then follow up test normal, sciatica which has left the back and side of left calf and 3 toes on left foot numb, also have 2 fingers on left hand numb, rheumatic pains in limbs to name a few. As soon as one complaint clears up, usually without invasive treatment, something else starts. This has been going on for almost 30 years (i'm 41) Does anyone know if these symptoms could be caused by a single medical condition?

- this question is sooooooo long. I didn't even bother reading it. But i'll say yes probably Ewww ok so I came back and read it. I don't know lady but thats nasty. I say youve got somethin bad, maybe VD
- yep hypochondria
- Wow! I don't know. I'm just amazed that this could go on for 30 years and no one has diagnosed you yet. Has any doctor ordered a full body scan? Maybe you should ask your physician to order one for you. Maybe it could see something that hasn't been detected yet. I'm going to be praying for you.
- If doctors are having a problem diagnosing your condition...why would you think someone here would know? Go on the Internet and do some research for yourself. It's a pain in the butt when you have a problem and doctors can't give you a straight answer but you can cause yourself more harm asking people who are unqualified.
- I think you need to change your family doctor and keep a diary, as you'll be able to sell it when you do get a proper diagnosis.
- Quite honestly I don't think they are caused by a single medical condition though some together may, however if your doctors have not picked them up I'd say you could relax about it. Your immune system may just be run down or pretty poor, there are some natural substances or medication that can help boost your immune system, perhaps you should try them. In any case keep doing regular check- ups and you'll be OK. Good luck.
- Several different conditions can cause abnormal results and mimic multilple different medical conditions. Most of these have some sort of autoimmune or inflammatory component. Possibilities include syphillis, lupus, pituitary gland problems, hypothyroidism (despite the repeated normal result) to name a few. Hypochondria would have physicial symptoms but would not lead to abnormal lab tests. Physical manifestations of stress/psychological disease can present with such a constellation of symptoms - irritable bowel syndrome and fibromyalgia for example.
- Yes It sounds as though you may have lupus an auto immune problem.Or there could be a psychological reason, for your illnesses Either way you do need to ask for a second opnion otherwise you will go into your meno pause not knowing what has hit you. Ask to be referred to another doctor for a second opinion. Good luck to you.
- I have ovarian cysts and low thyroid myself; your skin conditions may be a part of your thyroid problem also. You may be allergic to your own hormones. Sounds crazy, right? "Allergic" in this sense just meaning your body is responding in a destructive manner to a normal and natural part of your body. There is an easy cure, surprisingly easy for me. It involves finding a chiropractor/holistic doctor/acupressuist. In 25 hours I was cured of being allergic, you simply have the doctor touch a few pressure points (you even stay dressed) while holding a sample of the item you are allergic to in your hand (he or she will provide this) there are 7,000 doctors in the US who are licensed and train specifically to do this, they must be personally trained at extensive classes by the discoverer herself, and her acupuncturist (acupressure works just as well) husband makes the adjustment permanent. This method may be used for any allergy by the way, anything from cats to peanuts, metals to perfumes, no matter how severe the allergy. My whole family has been going for a few months; I cleared allergies to milk, soy and hormones. It only cost me $ 45 each time I went to see him. Great guy too, very nice. I live in St. George UT, but here is the number for my licensed doctor, he will gladly look up a specialist close to you. Email me for the phone number, or if you have questions. Second problem to solve is your thyroid. My mom had hers ruined by doctors because they don’t understand hormones or thyroid very well at all. My mom tests normally on thyroid tests, but she takes more thyroid than someone who has had their thyroid surgically removed. The fact is that was all they could do for her, thyroid medication, doesn’t ever fix the problem, only symptoms like so many prescriptions. Thyroid prescriptions can cause severe osteoporosis. In order to have your body cure itself in needs certain minerals and vitamins. The supplement I am taking right now is inexpensive, easy to take, and will put your thyroid back on track. Skin problems, constipation, tiredness will all disappear within a month or two. Email me for details on the supplement and my allergist's number, you wont be sorry. Besides, you have tried everything doctors have told you and nothing has worked (like me), just maybe this sounds crazy enough to work.
- I would go back to my doctor and request that auto-immune bloods and tests are done and also to be referred to a rheumatologist. The worst chameleon of all that mimics other medical conditions is an autoimmune disease. There are several of them although all share basic similarity in some symptoms, such as fatigue, unpredictability of symptoms, fatigue, musculoskeletal pain and skin problems, hormonal changes, to name a few. Simple blood tests and urine tests targetted to test for autoimmune antibodies will help for a start. 90% of sufferers tend to be women. It may be what you are describing are 'flare ups" and it maybe not but it will give you at least peace of mind to rule out any underlying problems. All the best and good luck.
- Hypochondriacs will know all about that.
