Why has weed become a problem in the late century?

People have been smoking weed for thousands of years. It has been used to treat numerous medical conditions including asthma, nausea, headaches and insomnia. It has been used for food, clothing, building material and many other things. It's been used in religious ceremonies and recreational gatherings. Why has it become such an issue within the last hundred years. If there was any issues with it wouldn't they have been discovered over the thousands of years it was used peacefully? Why do people still say it is dangerous when it has never been the sole cause of one death?

  1. Despite its perceived advantages, weed can and has contributed to many deaths. Just a couple of weeks ago, a young woman in my county crashed her car and died, while under the influence of weed. I know that alcohol does the same thing and it is legal, etc., etc., etc. But claiming that there are no negatives to marijuana use is disengenuous.
  2. Good question! We have pills these days that do the same thing as smoking weed.
  3. thats a really good question. i sure dont have an answer. because ive been wondering that same thing for years. i think its really sad for people to get in trouble for weed. its infuriating really... i mean look at the other countries where weed is legal... less crime and whatnot... also, i would say that marijuana boosts the economy, munchies.....
  4. its ridiculous ... the war on drugs is a complete waste of taxpayers money as well as a waste of law enforcements valuble time .. time they could be using to catch murderers and other violent criminals by legalizing marijuana they would be taking money out of dangerous drugdealers hands and would put it into there own through taxes ... i don't even smoke weed and i find the laws against it counterproductive and to be blunt, a little retarted
  5. When I lived in the state of Arkansas they were discussing how much of a crash crop this could be for the State (and were talking billions) and people signed petitions, but nothing ever came of it. I think as usual that the Government wants to control everything we do and how we do it, and realizing that anyone can do this, they can't have a hand in controlling it (always after the money)!!! I have never heard "person high a marijuana runs down pedestrians!", it's always some drunk idiot---but this is legal!!!!
  6. well, if they are using weed for medical reasons, there are no problems... but a majority of people have other uses for weed than treating a problem.
  7. People who say marijuana is dangerous enough to warrant government spending billions of our dollars, and countless man-hours every year arresting and jailing people, often ruining lives and causing numerous deaths, are either seriously uninformed, or have very strange priorities. People in government love scapegoat issues like the war on drugs to rile up the people and scare them and cause them to hand over more of their money and liberty to government to "solve problems." See the video below from Law Enforcement Against Prohibition. Also see the LEAP website and the War on Drugs Clock: According to Office of Drug Control Policy Statistics, as of this writing, over 30 billion dollars have been spent this year to arrest less than 500,000 people for pot, and about 600,000 people for other drug offenses. And in spite of fabulously wasteful spending like this every year, the percentage of people using drugs today HAS NOT CHANGED since 1914 when the government first decided to pass a law prohibiting certain drugs.
