What tips do you have for adjusting to high altitudes such as 9000'?
I am traveling soon from Buffalo, NY to Quito, Ecuador to stay for 10 days or so. Is there anything I should do to adjust to the altitude quickly?

- The most important thing you can do is to maintain a high level of hydration and eat properly. It's probably too late to change now, but being in good physical condition can make coping with the altitude easier. Altitude sickness can affect even the most physically fit among us and can even strike down a person who has been at altitude many times before. Still, being in good shape will make it easier for your body to respond to the physiological changes necessary and will allow for a more rapid recovery.
