- I don't really know -- but: When you suck your thumb, unles your nose is stopped up I don't see how that could cause hypoxia, cuz you are still breathing thru your nose. I sleep with the blankie over my head. It's just one blankie though. If you really are worried about that you could always wear a baseball cap on your head with the brim pointing forward so you have a gap between your face and the blanket.
- No. The brains respiratory center will always send that impulse to breathe via the autonomic nervous system. Holding a blanket up to the face and nose, won't be a problem because if the fabric weave is loose enough to allow enough air to flow through the weave. Natural fibers are better than synthetic materials, the "velour" type fabrics are mostly a plastic synthetic,so I would change the babies blanket to a loose cotton weave etc. Of course, when your baby has a "cold" or respiratory infection, you would want to be more vigilant.Take care. - I sucked my thumb till I was about 7 yrs old and as a result I've got a slight overbite. Do whatever you can to quit the habit.
