Use an oxygen-hemoglobin dissociation curve to answer the following question. During the passage of oxygenated blood through exercising muscle whose Po2 is 40 mm Hg, how much of the oxygen in the blood is released and taken up by the muscle? 1. The oxygen-hemoglobin dissociation curve you provided shows that at a PO2 of 40 mm Hg, the hemoglobin saturation is about 75%. This means that the remaining 25% of the oxygen in the blood is being released and taken up by the muscle.
