what is anterior ischemia?

1. Anterior (an-TIR-e-er) front Ischemia (is-KEE-mee-a) lack of oxygen in body tissue (usually the heart or brain) caused by blockage or damage to the artery carrying oxygen-rich blood to that part of the body
2. It is damage from lack of oxygen to the front portion of your heart. The damage can be seen by ST-segment elevation (on the ECG) in leads V1-V4. Sometimes reciprocal changes con be seen in leads II, III, and aVF ( the leads that look at the bottom of the heart)
3. Anterior refers to the front versus posterior which is back. Ischemia is a restriction in oxygen usually indicative of a restricted blood supply. Since it was revealed by and ECG the terms are referring to the heart. In laymen’s terms it is likely a reference to an anterior portion of the heat suffering some type of blockage of blood supply likely resulting in a myocardial infarction or heart attack.
4. The front of your heart is not getting enough blood. So in a sense it is suffocating.
5. Technically the previous answerers are right anterior ischemia is a lack of oxygen to the front of the heart. That being said, its hard to definitively say that from an EKG. Was it during a stress test or a resting EKG. If its on a resting, some people have abnormalities and that is ok. I would suggest talking with your doctor
6. Yes Anterior or anterior wall ischemia is based on ECG finding.
