Medical Condition Including Symptoms Knowledge Base
Should I report a preexisting condition to my health insurance company? I was under my father's military health care until the age of 23. Knowing this, I sought out and purchased individual health insurance through a writing agent that filled out the necessary information on the application. I was sent the information packet regarding my health coverage and I read that preexisting conditions include symptoms that were not diagnosed. Well, about 1 month before new my health coverage started, I went to the doctor regarding swollen tonsils. The doctor prescribed antibiotics and a strep throat test (which was negative), but there was no formal diagnosis. The issue is that during the application process my agent asked if there was anything wrong with me (in regards to medical conditions). I replied that there wasn't anything wrong with me that I have been diagnosed with. The problem is that my tonsils are still swollen and I would like to seek medical care. I am worried that the company will drop my coverage if I report this oversight or if I see a doctor.
HIV Symptoms??..........? i'm doing a Report on the symptoms of HIV, my friend told me some of the symptoms include; strep throat asthma kidney infection skin breaking out in acne/becoming darker i looked some of it up on google but alot of the sites didnt give a definite answer are these medical conditions symptoms of HIV?
What is the medical term for the condition wherein a child cannot chew or suck any thing? This question is in regards to some peculiar symptoms I have observed in my 4 year old niece. My first reaction as has been everybody else was to ignore this. But I think now it would not be appropriate to ignore as it is affecting adversely her health. From the very birth she has not been able to suck any thing. Even now she cannot chew or suck food or any liquid material. She has to be forcefully fed food directly into her throat without any chewing. With the result she has developed no taste for food including that of chocolate etc. She has grown quite weak. I had some time back read something about this condition but I am not able to trace that out. Is it a medically recognized symptoms/affliction? If so what is the treatment and if somebody can suggest some doctor in India/Canada that will be very helpful. Since she is in India where medical facilities cannot be termed excellent, the doctors have said that she will automatically learn to chew but i am not sure of that.
Why are there no good medical questions in the Yahoo Answers Health section? This is just a repeat of my previous question in search of diagnostic inquiries that cannot easily be answered by looking on Wikipedia. Do not post them as an answer to this question, make a separate question on Yahoo Answers and put the link to it as your answer here. A few general guidelines for serious health questions: 1. Include age, weight, height, race. 2. Include your main symptoms, when they begin, what makes them better and worse, the location, and any associated symptoms. 3. Include known medical conditions (heart disease, diabetes, etc.) 4. Include any medications, vitamins, supplements, etc. you are taking. 5. Tell me about any street drugs you are taking. 6. Amount and frequency of tobacco use and alcohol consumption. 7. Any other random complaints or symptoms you have. Do this even if you don't think they are related to your main problem. It doesn't matter what they are. Examples: constipation, diarrhea, easy bruising or bleeding, swollen lymph nodes, etc. Just anything you noticed. Preferably in that order- I'll email you if I need more information. Obviously, I don't claim to be a doctor nor do I claim that I can diagnose anything definitively online. I am a 3rd-year medical student, which I have posted on my profile. I just want to see some interesting stuff and see what I can come up with. In case you have not read any of my other posts, I always advise people to go to the doctor for appropriate evaluation. And I am aware that you can't make a diagnosis without proper examination and laboratory tests. Go take a Xanax or something people.

Anyone familiar with a medical condition called Multiple Chemical Sensitivity? And...treatments that work? It's easiest to compare this condition to allergies, although it isn't truly allergy, because it doesn't cause a histimine response. The symptoms are more closely related to poisoning. Nausea, disorientation, muscle weakness, achy joints, etc. These symptoms come from exposure to things we cannot avoid in our society. Perfumes are lethal to us. This includes perfumed deodorant, drier sheets, detergent, hair spray, etc. One of the worst is plug-in air fresheners. Other things affect us, but the perfumes seem to be hardest to avoid. Even masks don't help, unless you wear the kind for toxic waste, with big filters attached. Who wants to wear that to work and the grocery store, etc. It also seems that more things are perfumed now than a few years ago. It's hard to find toilet bowl cleaner, shampoo, dish soap, etc. without added perfumes.
How likely is it that I have HIV or other major medical condition? Im freaking out because my doctor requested on HIV test due to my symptoms, among other tests (thyroid problems, diabetes, pegnancy/miscarriage, hepitits vitamin deficiencies, syphilis, etc). I have had 4 sexual partners since april, with all of them i used condoms, every time. But now i have symptoms of HIV and i am FREAKNG OUT. First I had an episode in late June when I lost my appetite and lost tons of weight really fast, but this was right after I majorly rejected by a guy I had a crush on, so i was pretty upset. I gained the weight back and went back to normal. Then in august I went backpacking for a month which had me pretty stressed since i hadn't planned it well and i left the day after my summer exams. The day i arrived I started my period early and I had my period for almost 2 months, heavy but on and off. During that time I caught a really bad cold with fever (result of having wet hair on a 14hour freezing cold airconditioned bus ride, i always get sick super easily in these situations), no diarreah, no headache or body aches though, but a pretty bad fever (self-diagnosed). As it was going away, it turned into a bacterial sinus infection (acute maxillary) and i took antibiotics, antihistamines and steroids prescribed by my doctor (also gave me an injection of who knows what), which gave me many side effects including night sweats, which are also a symptom of HIV. I am super sensitive to medications, i always get the side effects, but have never had night sweats, so i don't know if they are symptoms or side effects, but they stopped after i stopped the meds. I was also stressed majorly at this point because yet another guy broke my heart, way worst this time, and i was reeeeallly upset over it (still am, but thats another story). I was also getting heart palpitations, same time i started the meds, but they havent really stopped since. Im used to getting palpitations/arrythmia though. The sinusitis hurt my teeth so i couldnt each much, and i lost a ridiculous amount of weight yet again. This fits with thyroid problems. That was over a month ago, and last week I caught another cold, which went away after a couple days with no other symptoms. I looked up HIV and my symptoms fit... but they could also fit stress and bad cold, or a thyroid problem, or an infection, or.... etc. I've been vaccinated for Hep A andB. Also, I always use condoms! It should be noted I have an anxiety disorder, so i am sensitive to stress and side effcts of medications. What does it sound like MOST??? Just stress and a bad cold/sinus infection, HIV, thyroid problems... what??? Im so freaken scared im going out of my mind!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I feel like im going insane... i cant do anything else but worry... also, i have a freckle/mole on my arm that recently changed colour and oddly peeled off a layer. Its edges apprear to be turning whitish. I forgot to show my doctor today (kinda freaked over the HIV and thyroid problems, it slipped my mind) but i need to get it checked out, it seems to fit the symptoms of skin cancer. wtf, am i going to die???? Or am i a major hypochondriac???? Im freaking out so bad!!!!!!!Im going INSANE with fear!!!!
This is getting kind of serious... Medical conditions that match the symptoms? Alright, I've been to a few doctors but they don't take me very seriously... They've run blood tests but that's about it. No serious examinations. The last doctor I saw believed the pain may be a result of depression... But I really don't think that's it at all. You see, I understand fully what depression aches feel like as recently I've been experiencing those, too. I don't think the depression is causing the issues, I believe the issues are resulting in depression. Depression pains aren't really sharp, severe... They're just a "God, I don't want to do this anymore" type of thing. You're weary, sluggish, hurting all over without a direct source of pain. The thing I'm reporting is not like that at all. I have constant "stabbing, shooting" sensations all over my body, but I can pin point them easily. Mostly they circulate around my wrists, thighs, where the back becomes the bottom, back of the neck, shoulders, top of the feet, joints... Gah. There are a lot of spots, but it isn't psychosomatic (I'm aware I have mental problems, I just don't think this is one of them). It's cutting edge and it doesn't go away. I also have a difficulty with sleeping. I go days feeling tired, but not being able to lose consciousness. I have obsessive water drinking habits, too. I'm CONSTANTLY thirsty and much colder then I should be. The nurse who checked my pulse prior commented that it was extremely strong and two nights ago I went to a slumber party and my friend was next to me, almost asleep, and she noted that my heart beat faster then any other person she'd known. I mention this only because I wonder if it has some correlation to the fact that I have "miny heart attacks" (my brother's choice of words). What happens is basically the same as any heart attack but there is no permanent damage and I never go to a hospital. My wrist starts to sting like a big needle is being jabbed right into the vein, and then my chest starts searing and I can't breathe, and my head throbs and I'll fall down, normally my left leg goes down first. Normally it happens once every two or so days, and lasts a few seconds. Recently, it's been occuring so much more and it lasts longer until my eyes are swimming. I heard that irregular heart shape may be the cause of this issue...? Another symptom (may or may not be related) is that I've been constipated for years. I also have these "twitches". Involuntary muscle movements... My eye will spazz out or sometimes it's more severe and my whole body will convulse, my eyes go behind my head. It doesn't really HURT but it feels like electricity is surging through me. I have bad headaches. Gah, with all the things happening, I don't know what to list here as a symptom. These days I just don't FEEL well. Is this all really just depression or something else entirely? If you know what, please include it in your response. I have to get more blood work done soon and if I can, I want to have a list of possible illnesses she can check me for. If you have any specific questions, please ask. I really need a second opinion.
Unexplained Symptoms -- Medical professionals, PLEASE answer.? I am female, 16 years of age, with muscle pain, sickness, and malaise. There is a dry, stuffy nose, but it is not runny and I do not have traditional symptoms of the common cold. My muscle pain includes a sort of heaviness, tenderness, and achiness around my chest (mainly left side), arms, and shoulders. I have been to the ER, through which urine samples, an EKG, bloodwork, and chest X-rays have been determined as normal. I have some coughing, with occasional phlegm (but it is almost always a dry cough) and some throat problems which make swallowing a little difficult, and discourage me from eating sometimes, and previously, from drinking much as well, as it is strange, and feels like nothing wants to go down my throat, but this is not stomach-related. There is occasionally stomach upset, which feels like an eruption and I must hastily proceed to my bathroom, and my stool is cloudy when passed and is extremely soft, crumbly, yet is not diarrhea and does not hurt my anal region as diarrhea would, and the painful desire to expel my bowels does not return after it is passed. These symptoms I am experiencing are intermittent, and interfere with my quality of living. I am depressed, anxious, and concerned for my health, and have even broke down crying and often go into a sort of panic mode, where I pace around, frightened. I have had breathing difficulties (in which I was having to breathe heavy) and chest pressure, and there was simply nothing determined to be wrong with me. My muscles in my shoulders are very tense. I sometimes have a very weird feeling in my respiratory tract which cannot be localized, and I feel I must lie in bed. I am very weak, fatigued, and a little dizzy. There is pain in my legs as well, and sometimes on the sides of my stomach. My pains are NOT sharp. I have a headache, and generally just don't feel right. I have gone to my family doctor as well, and again, there was nothing perceivably wrong with me. I am profoundly unnerved when they dismiss me, hoping my age is not a factor. This is certainly NOT stress, although I have been sent home, with medical professionals claiming it was probably stress. Often, a symptom predominates all others. I am very afraid. I do not know what to do, and feel as though I have no control of what happens to me, health-wise. I was a bit dehydrated when I went to Emergency, but all they told me was to increase fluid intake. I have an irregular heartbeat, but this runs in my family and I've had it since birth. I don't know how much more I can take. This condition went away for a while, and has returned once again. Is it serious, and what am I supposed to do? This condition is seriously destroying my life.
Please help! Been to several docs and still a mystery - Licensed Medical Professionals ONLY Please? A few things about me before you read... I am a 31 year old graphic designer who works at home on computer. I've never had any pre-existing condition, never sick or hospitalized, no anxiety or panic history or over-stressed, no medical conditions, no kids and happily married with our pup. The only issue I have is some minor sinus congestion sometimes. Please help I have seen many many docs and still no answer! I was having severe jaw popping the day this all happened and had some drinks the night before... but that's it and I've been told by every doc I've seen that those things would not cause this... Here is what happened that day and is still happening 6 months later... While home working in the afternoon, all of sudden this horrible rush came over my body from head toe and happened in an instant. Everything turned hazy white, body felt cold and tingling, hands severely shaking, legs weak, severe flushing in face till actually turned red and major pressure in head. I started to get scared so heart palps started, rapid heart beat, etc. Thought maybe it was because I hadn't eaten a lot that day, so hubs came home with food (only works 5 min away) that didn't help.Took blood pressure at home which was high for me (135/90) usually I'm at around 120/70. Still flushing and getting rushes through body - thing that scared me the most was the hazy white vision and constant rushing and flushing over and over again. Was not getting better so went to hospital. Hospital ran EKG and blood tests including thyroid blood test and everything was normal except mild heart palps. They gave me fluid and sent me home even though I was still having the same symptoms. Went home and could barely do anything without having more attacks. I'm a tough girl, so I tried the next day cooking, doing stuff at the house, etc. but just kept having attacks so had to lay down. Visions was probably the worst because still hazy, but eyes seemed very strained and not-focused especially when looking afar. Withing that first week more symptoms appeared including more flushing attacks with sever head pressure like head was going to explode, slightly droopy eyelids, slight slurred speech, like I was slow (the first word that would come out would be slurred but the rest of the sentence was fine) but was talking slower. Had 24 hour headaches for 2 weeks straight. Other things that occurred in coming weeks were swimmer's ear infection(never had before), white stool for a few days, ears always popping, heart racing, palps, weak, the biggest issue though was this constant vision problems where it seems like I can't focus afar, or thing seem hazy, eyes straining - the best way to describe the feeling is it's almost like I'm on drugs but I am not or haven't taken anything since high school, not anything major though. I received an eye exam, cardiac echo, heavy metal tests, thyroid blood test, every other blood test, 24 hour urine test, brain MRI, physical therapy(in case of a nerve issue in my neck) went to 2 neurologists who had no idea what it could be other than maybe panic attacks (but both neurologists said some of symptoms couldn't be explained if it was panic attacks) But I have never have had issues with anxiety etc. and am not a stressed person and did not believe them. But I went anyway to therapist who specializes in anxiety and panic attacks who after weeks and weeks did NOT think I have any anxiety issues at all and pushes me to keep looking for a medical reason. Also went to eye doc says vision is 20/20 and he couldn't see anything wrong. After 2 months symptoms down by 50%. Am comfortable driving again most of the time - FINALLY. Still having headaches, light sensitivity, ear popping fell almost clogged, but mostly vision problems (especially when working a lot on computer) and weird feelings like my head is super sensitive, some heart palps, warm or minor rush feelings, also still have that weird feeling like I am on something but I'm not. Also still have weird feelings through entire body right before falling asleep and when I lay down I have pressure on the part of my head that I am laying on so I get uncomfortable. I would say I still have bad days twice a week. But the visions issues are ALWAYS there like I am NOT back to my normal self before all this happened. If I have a few drinks (I only drink maybe once a week) the next day my symptoms seem worse. After a few months of all tests being NORMAL I went on anti-anxiety meds as a last resort (also to prove to my and myself that that's not what this is) and I was right. No changes for better or worse so am off the meds now. Anyway, it's 6 months later now and I'm about 70-80% better than the 1st week but still not back to normal and I just want to feel myself again! Please help me! I know that something is wrong I am very in tune with my body... and this all started with that first attack in Jan
What diagnostic tests and medications are needed for this patient? A 62-year old male(non-smoker, no known allergies) has the following medical conditions: <Angina> Characteristics of angina commonly include a sensation of pressure, heavy weight, burning, or tightness over the sternum or near to it. The pain may radiate to, or occassionally be limited to, the left arm, shoulder, or other areas. The sensation gradually increases in intensity and then gradually disappears with rest. The duration is usually between 30 seconds and 30 minutes. <Hypertension> Hypertension is defined by persistent elevation of arterial blood pressure. <Hyperlipidaemia> Hyperlipidemia is defined as an elevation of one or more of the following: cholesterol, cholesterol esters, phospholipids or triglycerides. Abnormalities of plasma lipids can result in a predisposition to coronary, cerebrovascular, and peripheral vascular arterial disease. He is taking the following medications: Irbesartan 300mg mane(what does "mane" mean?) Used for treatment of hypertension and prevention of renal disease progression in patients with type 2 diabetes, hypertention and microalbuminuria. Gemfibrozil 600mg bd(twice daily) Used in treatment of severe hypertriglyceridaemia, mixed hyperlipidaemia and dyslipidaemia associated with diabetes, and used to reduce risk of coronary heart disease in hypercholesterolaemia. Glyceryl Trinitrate Tablets 600mcg; half to one prn(when necessary) Used in the prevention and treatment of stable and angina and heart failure associated with acute myocardial infarction. Provides exogenous source of nitric oxide. Predominantly venodilators and reduces venous return and preload to the heart, reducing myocardial oxygen requirement. Glyceryl Trinitrate spray 400mcg (1 spray when required); use prn Also known as nitroglycerine and GTN. It is used in the treatment of angina by providing an exgenous source of nitric oxide which mediates vasodilator effects. His medical test results are: -Blood Pressure 140/90 -Liver Function Test Total protein=63g/L(normal 60-80g/L);Albumin 27g/L(normal 35-52g/L);ALT=19U/L(normal 38-126U/L);GGT=154U/L(normal 12-43U/L);ALP=177(normal 38-126U/L) Question 1: From the liver function test results, what information can we obtain regarding the patient's medical condition? Question 2: What further diagnostic tests are needed to know more about the patient's medical condition(including diabetes due to heavy weight)? Question 3: What are the appropriate therapies(what medicines, and dosage for each?) for effective treatment, avoidance of side effects, increased compliance, and cost-effectiveness? Question 4: Without other symptoms, the patient shows dry cough. What is the cause of this cough?
Question about a Rash on the hands? I am a female of 18 years, with a history of medical conditions including, graves disease, poly-cystic ovarian disorder, and a great amount of anaemia. For about 1 month I have had circular rashes, varying in color, appear on the backs of my hands (both left and right), and sparadically on the fingers (Only two have appeared on the palm). They are slightly raised and tend to resemble miniature cigarette burns, and do itch and burn. I tend to get them more on my thumbs then anything (And have developed two that are just not going away), but do have a peculiar amount of goosebump like things that spread across the entire hand. Strangely enough the rash started off with a very dry scaley itchy patch on the inner knee of my left leg that resembled a bumpy dry skin rash a friend of mine had on her arms and legs. Which may or may not have been related. I was worried about it because somebody told me that it might be syphilis. However I have (as far as I am aware) had no other 'syphilis' symptoms and have engaged in only one unprotected sexual act (When I was incredibly young >.>). Could this be another condition or possibly stress related OR should I book it too the doctors office first thing monday morning?
Is milk an addictive substance? Per the wiki, milk has casein which breaks down into casomorphin - which in turn exhibits the "opioid effect" when consumed. Further I've read significant speculation that these peptides have relations with certain medical conditions including diabetes, heart disease, acne vulgaris, and symptoms of autism and schizophrenia. Now to my question, how many people do you know that can give up (cold turkey) all forms of cheese, butter, milk, creams, yogurt, and other product that includes some form of dairy - even most "dark" chocolates ironically, minus the organic brands. I'm going to safety assume that most Americans would _significantly_ struggle with such dietary restrictions. Further, the dairy section is not without major marketing - and especially targeting children with the use of anthropomorphized cow adverts on tv and print. Emulsified cheese (not to mention bacon) have become so ingrained in the minds of people that it's practically become a language meme, and probably one of the most common used words in recent dialect. Females exhibiting PMS symptoms are often told to eat ice cream to "feel better" to which many do - and in large quantities. And I think that's a good time to stop postulating, please reciprocate viewpoints.
Will my medical condition stop me from joining the USMC?!? have something called Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia (HHT)...Hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia is a rare inherited disorder characterized by malformations of various blood vessels usually resulting in excessive bleeding (hemorrhaging). Chronic nosebleeds are often the first apparent symptom associated with hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia. Malformation of various blood vessels may result in abnormalities affecting various organ systems of the body including the lungs, brain, and liver. HHT is inherited as an autosomal dominant trait. I haven't had any problems with it in 6 years. Will this stop me from joining the USMC? IS there any way that i can make it so it wont effect me getting in? Pull some-string or something.

Can someone put these medical ethic directives in a simpler for for me to undeerstand and discuss? Directives 55. Catholic health care institutions offering care to persons in danger of death from illness, accident, advanced age, or similar condition should provide them with appropriate opportunities to prepare for death. Persons in danger of death should be provided with whatever information is necessary to help them understand their condition and have the opportunity to discuss their condition with their family members and care providers. They should also be offered the appropriate medical information that would make it possible to address the morally legitimate choices available to them. They should be provided the spiritual support as well as the opportunity to receive the sacraments in order to prepare well for death. 56. A person has a moral obligation to use ordinary or proportionate means of preserving his or her life. Proportionate means are those that in the judgment of the patient offer a reasonable hope of benefit and do not entail an excessive burden or impose excessive expense on the family or the community.40 57. A person may forgo extraordinary or disproportionate means of preserving life. Disproportionate means are those that in the patient's judgment do not offer a reasonable hope of benefit or entail an excessive burden, or impose excessive expense on the family or the community.41 58. There should be a presumption in favor of providing nutrition and hydration to all patients, including patients who require medically assisted nutrition and hydration, as long as this is of sufficient benefit to outweigh the burdens involved to the patient. 59. The free and informed judgment made by a competent adult patient concerning the use or withdrawal of life-sustaining procedures should always be respected and normally complied with, unless it is contrary to Catholic moral teaching. 60. Euthanasia is an action or omission that of itself or by intention causes death in order to alleviate suffering. Catholic health care institutions may never condone or participate in euthanasia or assisted suicide in any way. Dying patients who request euthanasia should receive loving care, psychological and spiritual support, and appropriate remedies for pain and other symptoms so that they can live with dignity until the time of natural death.42 61. Patients should be kept as free of pain as possible so that they may die comfortably and with dignity, and in the place where they wish to die. Since a person has the right to prepare for his or her death while fully conscious, he or she should not be deprived of consciousness without a compelling reason. Medicines capable of alleviating or suppressing pain may be given to a dying person, even if this therapy may indirectly shorten the person's life so long as the intent is not to hasten death. Patients experiencing suffering that cannot be alleviated should be helped to appreciate the Christian understanding of redemptive suffering. 62. The determination of death should be made by the physician or competent medical authority in accordance with responsible and commonly accepted scientific criteria. 63. Catholic health care institutions should encourage and provide the means whereby those who wish to do so may arrange for the donation of their organs and bodily tissue, for ethically legitimate purposes, so that they may be used for donation and research after death. 64. Such organs should not be removed until it has been medically determined that the patient has died. In order to prevent any conflict of interest, the physician who determines death should not be a member of the transplant team. 65. use of tissue or organs from an infant may be permitted after death has been determined and with the informed consent of the parents or guardians. 66. Catholic health care institutions should not make use of human tissue obtained by direct abortions even for research and therapeutic purposes
Can anyone help with my medical dilemma? I have had multiple underlying medical conditions for years now and I'm working with multiple doctors to help figure out what is causing all of them. THey include b-12 deficiency, high testosterone, white & gray matter lessions in my brain(that have grown in number and size over a 3 year period), mitral valve prolapse, positive rheumatoid factor but not diagnosed with rh. arthritis. along with all these things come symptoms....chronic fatigue, depression, anxiety, heart palpitations, extreme hair growth (in places not welcomed), double vision, lip & mouth tingling and temporary paralysis and extreme sleeping inconsistancies. Anyone out there know what this all can be caused by???? I've been tested for all the obvious and MS is just about the only thing that has stuck, but was told that my MRI scans have to decline more for an accurate diagnosis. Both spinal taps I had were negative for any virus, bacteria. yes. I have had my thyroid checked as well as pituitary gland and my adrenal glands. Tested for Sjrogen's syndrome, Lyme disease,Lupus, Cushing's, all std's, I have 9 of the 18 "hotspots"(11 needed for full diagnosis) for fybromyalgia and the list goes on. I do agree about the auto-immune thing, I just can't seem to find the right one to match up to me
For Any Medical Staff/Students, What other conditions could these symptoms suggest? Ok, now before you all start shouting at me to go see a doc, I am already seeing one but were at the beginning stages so no confirmed diagnosis yet, just the doctors suspicions. I will list the symptoms and rough dates they started. none of these symptoms have stopped as of yet. July: extreme itching around my man parts, specifically the rear (no laughing please... :p ) continuing. August: Night sweats, varying, some nights ok, some nights drenched completely, some nights damp, Continuous, worsened in October. Early October, groinal lymph glands extremely raised, lump begins forming off left groinal gland. late October, sudden weight loss,10 pounds in two weeks, original weight and height taken two weeks before, 10 stone 10 pounds, 5ft7.5 inches when your this short the .5 counts :) (14 pounds in a stone for our USA guests), random bouts of fatigue varying day to day, hour to hour at times, no stamina. Docs Visited. Examination also reveals possible tender liver. Early November, left groinal glands possibly subsided or just obscured by lump, right groinal gland still firm but not showing any signs of deformation, left lump still present and slowly growing, causing a very slight aching sensation at times, like growing pains as a kid but located to one area and very dull pain. *possibly related, unknown issue* two small strange marks appeared on the glands of my penis, two other strange small marks now permanent on foreskin. have noticed the occasional other odd strange mark here and there generally, and random bouts of itchiness here and there. For those of you thinking gross, believe me im not happy either, I shower every day. I am a clean person. Early November, new very small painful bump on left arm (about the size of a pea) under vein, probably unrelated, possibly pressure from resting my arm on the edge of PC desk when typing and office chair when sitting? not growing, nor moving (used marker pen and monitored over three days) each morning I wake feeling like ive been hit by a truck and looking like I have had all the blood drained from my body. tests to date: Chest Ex-ray: all clear Full Blood Count: Inflammatory Indicators found. Full Sexually Transmitted Infection battery performed, once in July when the itching started, once in late October. All negative, tests included testing for LGV. My history: Zip. I barely drink alcohol, I eat home made well cooked meals (im Italian), plenty of vegetables, more than average health concious person. I know I don't get enough exercise but I do walk most places and am a slim guy. One bad thing I do. I smoke, 5 to 7 hand rolled tobacco per day. ironically I was due to start anti smoking drugs next week as I want to quit. My doc is concerned it could be a cancer, specifically lymphoma. And I have basically been trying to match my symptoms to other possible causes in order to give me hope until I get a diagnosis which could still be a week or two away. What I want to know from any medical professionals out there is what else do these symptoms match? My thanks to you, From (Luc) 27, very worried, in Coventry UK. Additional: OK, the first answer I got back was from krystie5 who simply said syphilis. whilst im grateful for the answer, *PLEASE* IF YOUR NOT GOING TO BOTHER READING IT ALL, DONT BOTHER POSTING. As I stated in the question a full battery of tests for STi`s was completed. TWICE over three months. it came up all clear.
What medical issues can be indicated by water blisters on the legs from knee to ankle? My mom is 57-years-old and has been having some ongoing problems that I'm worried might be connected to each other in some way. She is very difficult to talk into seeing a doctor and so I would just like some possible conditions this could be related to so that I can research the specific conditions for her. Her symptoms include a HUGE amount of swelling in her legs, from her knees down to and throughout her feet. There is so much swelling that her legs are pretty red and this swelling has been going on for several months now. She DID go in to see her doctor about the swelling and had examinations done on her heart, kidneys, etc. and the doctor just didn't have any answers for her. She has type-2 diabetes and doesn't take care of herself that well, including the fact that she's quite obese, weighing in at over 300 pounds. She's already had knee replacement surgery and as such doesn't get much exercise because she doesn't feel sturdy on her legs. She has an office job where she sits throughout almost her entire full-time shift. So, her doctor prescribed her some water pills to relieve the edema, and it hasn't been helping. Now, months after the initial onset of the edema, she is developing water blisters all over her legs, extending from her knees down to her ankles. Other symptoms and problems she has had that may or may not be related are as follows: *A few dark spots in her peripheral vision *Pains in her chest, despite physician exam disproving relation to a heart condition *Recent high-level of weight gain (Due to edema??) *Loss of feeling in feet and legs, including no pain sensation *Inflammation of the fat on the left side of her abdomen (which was treated with antibiotics I believe) *Pain in her lower legs (most likely related to edema) *An extreme loss of bladder control, to where she doesn't even usually sense the need for urination, and she has been examined by her doctor for this, who sent her to a neurologist and a urinary specialist. She was told that she needs a urinary sling or something similar, but she only has been given a 20% chance of continuing success unless she loses weight, which she obviously has no ability to work on until her legs are better. This loss of control is so big that "Depends" and the like don't protect from the leakage. There seems to be no other problems going on other than this. Her blood sugar usually stays within healthy limits despite an unhealthy diet. Her blood pressure is within healthy limits and her cholesterol levels, etc. weren't really bad at her last testing. My poor mother just feels so helpless and worthless. She is NOT handling this situation well and feels like there's nothing that can be done to help her. I would really appreciate some type of information so that I can help her investigate what is going on, that way maybe when I finally do talk her into seeing her doctor again, she can point out ideas of what may be going on... maybe that way she doesn't walk out of a few more doctor's appointments as clueless as she walked into them. Please help.
How in Depth is the Airforce Pilot medical history investigation? Can you sneak something by them? A friend of mine is in the airforce ROTC program with me. We are both beginning our sophmore year. For the purposes of this question, we will call my friend Jim. Jim is hoping to become a pilot in the Airforce after he graduates. He will most likely get a pilot slot ( 4.0 gpa in aerospace engineering major, near top of the class, etc.). He fears he might run into problems when it comes to the flight medical, however. Apparently, he had some social anxiety when he was in high school and saw a psychologist now and then for a few years to help him through it. ( it was nothing severe he said, they just discussed how to make new friends and deal with difficult social situations and stuff). According to the Airforce pilot medical standards, any history of one or more of several listed mental "conditions" (including social anxiety) is disqualifying. He is thinking about just not telling the medical examiner about the whole ordeal in order to ensure that he will not be disqualified from obtaining medical clearance to enter flight training. I told him he was nuts and that such a minor condition would most likely be waived? Would it? Or would he be better off not saying anything about it? He says there is no way they could find out because the only people that know about the psychologist are him, his parents, the doctor, and, well, me...If he decides to disclose his condition to the airforce, are medical waivers possible/likely for such a condition? He no longer has any anxiety symptoms( but even when he did, I, his best friend all through high school, didn't even notice untill he told me) and is a stong leader in our ROTC detachment. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
I can't get fat... what's my condition?!? Okay, I can't get fat. AT ALL. I eat tons of stuff, including junk food but I remain 119 lbs. I don't even look fat. I'm not super skinny, I look pretty normal. I know that i don't have Lipodystrophy, which is a medical condition for people who can't gain weight. But... the symptoms don't match up to me, so I know that is not my case. I haven't checked with a doctor because I do not want to pay. Is it that I have a high metabolism? Are there any other conditions like this?
How long does Percocet withdrawal last? Anything to ease it? I've been taking Percocet, Vicodin, and regular Oxycodone since April almost every day to deal with a painful medical condition. At first I took the regular dosage but eventually it got out of hand and at the most I was taken 60 to 80 mgs of pure oxycodone 3 times a day which I can see is a lot by reading around on the internet. Last week I tried to wean down and took my last dose of 5 Percocets on Saturday night. I have not taken anything since and my pain is tolerable. I saw my doctor today and told him everything and he recommended that I continue the weaning but I am having terrible withdrawals. Also the reason I took so many was because when I tried to get off I couldnt cuz of the withdrawal so I came back taking even more. Well now i'm trying to get off for good and its been terrible since Sunday, just wondering how long does it generally take. My symptoms include: nausea, diarehea, chills. Luckily I am not having the mental withdrawal since I know I should get off, but the phsyical sucks. Please help, thanks!

Can a 16 year old male have female-type periods? Hello, my friend is wondering this I am a 16 year old male born on October in 1993. Senior in Highschool this year. Since the ending of Middle School/Beginning of High School i've been getting into a physical and mental state once or more a month. Typically my symptoms include: Cramps or cramping of lower abdominal. Mood swings (Angry to depressed to happy all within an hour) Headaches/migraines Nausea Snapping at people for little to no reason Is it possible for me to have a female-like period but be male. I should also add I want to be a Trans-girl and stop pre-op. Also, I still like females. Now I thought power of suggestion or hoping of wanting to be a female so badly makes me feel these symptoms. Except for the fact that this feeling to be a girl as powerful as this only started about half a year ago when these period-like symptoms began about 4 or so years ago. Is there a name for this as a medical condition, or are these all symptoms of something else? Once again, I do not bleed from any orifice. I kinda want a definitive answer as my parents are homophobic and don't want them to think anything about me which could view me as gay and have them not like me. Well i'd like to mention it's not just mental, but physical. I get nausea and sick feeling. And the cramps hurt pretty badly. I do get headaches normally, however these are almost unbearable. Any doctors have any idea?
Question about diagnostic criteria for Major Depressive Episode- mood-incongruent delusions or hallucinations? In the diagnostic criteria, for a Major Depressive Episode, under A., before the list of symptoms. Note: Do not include symptoms that are clearly due to a general medical condition, or mood-incongruent delusions or hallucinations. Does that mean that the symptoms cannot be due to mood-incongruent hallucinations, or does it mean that it cannot be due to hallucinations, at all? ex.What if a patient begins thinking that he is such a bad person that when he is trying to decide if he wants to do something together, with one of his friends, he hears a "no" in his mind (hallucination-though he thinks that it is God). He avoids that friend and feels very guilty. It seems to be a mood-congruent delusion, though it was caused by a hallucination. He begins to worry that he is "hurting" other people, therefore begins to sleep in more often, causing hypersomnia, another symptom of Major Depression. Could these things count as symptoms toward a diagnosis of a Major Depressive Episode, w/psychotic features? The diagnostic criteria from behavenet.com say that symptoms cannot be due to mood-incongruent delusions or hallucinations, but at another website, it says that symptoms cannot be due to mood-incongruent psychosis. http://www.mentalhealth.com/dis1/p21-md01.html
What is wrong with me? Stinging "pins and needles" pain in both my calves.? so to tell you a bit about my problem i'll start with saying im a 15 year old female fairly healthy, a soccer player and had been going to physical therapy for about 3weeks earlier this month for what was said to be a "calf strain". I am kind've worried because besides the constant stinging in the calves once in a while I would feel stinging in my hands. i never told my trainers though. I would describe the feeling as pins and needles. So i did some research and here are the things I think could be wrong with me. -Claudication pain: "pain that occurs in the legs when walking or exercising. It is usually the result of circulation problems which affects the flow of blood to the leg muscles. In severe cases, the pain may persist even when the patient is inactive"it doesn't just sting during sports but outside of them like right now im on the couch. -diabetes- because i also had been getting headaches and pains throughout body and other symptoms but my blood pressure is always normal so im not sure about this idea. Peripheral neuropathy: Peripheral neuropathy is the term for damage to nerves of the peripheral nervous system, which may be caused either by diseases of the nerve or from the side-effects of systemic illness. Peripheral neuropathy is a common neurological disorder resulting from damage to the peripheral nerves. It may be caused by diseases of the nerves or as the result of systemic illnesses. (Source: excerpt from NINDS Peripheral Neuropathy Information Page: NINDS) other info on calf burning- Calf burning sensation (medical symptom): The skin sensation of partial numbness or "pins and needles" or a type of "burning", "tingling" or "creeping" sensation of the skin, is known as a "paresthesia". Symptoms may start as a tingling (paresthesia) and change to a numbness, or there may be a combination of decreased sensation (numbness) but with heightened sensations at certain times or with stimulation. Any type of tingling, burning, or numbness is usually a symptom related to a sensory nerve being damaged, diseased, or injured. Causes depend on the exact location of the paresthesia sensations, but typically include a physical nerve injury type condition (e.g. a nerve entrapment or some type of pressure being applied to a nerve directly or to the spinal attachment of that nerve), or a disease condition affecting the nerves (e.g. neuropathy, diabetic neuropathy, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, and others). Having these sensory symptoms in multiple locations, or the recurrence of similar symptoms in different locations is a hallmark symptom of multiple sclerosis, so your doctor will likely ask about the past history of similar symptoms to assess the likelihood of multiple sclerosis as a diagnosis (see symptoms of multiple sclerosis). Any of these tingling or numbness symptoms are more than just annoying; they can indicate a serious medical condition and require prompt medical diagnosis by a professional. PLEASE HELP IM IN A GREAT DEAL OF PAIN TO THE EXTENT THAT IM CRYING i don't know what to do and if i tell my dad he won't do anything he will just say suck it up ... im scared for my health and soccer career. thanks your help is greatly appreciated!!! Also if you have any other ideas please share them anything that can help break the case!

What do I do? "Major depressive disorder (depression) is not just a temporary mood, and it's not a sign of personal weakness. Depression is a serious medical condition with a variety of symptoms. Emotional symptoms can include sadness, loss of interest in things you once enjoyed, feelings of guilt or worthlessness, restlessness, and trouble concentrating or making decisions. Physical symptoms can include fatigue, vague aches and pains, headaches, and changes in weight or sleep patterns. For some, depression can include thoughts of death or suicide." It feels like I have been depressed forever. Every time I become a little happier I tell myself "it's for real this time" but I end up just getting depressed again. My life sucks. I've been thinking about committing suicide but I am not sure how I would do it without any pain. What do I do?

Protein-calorie malnutrition: Causes and incidence (Professional Guide to Diseases (Eighth Edition)) Both kwashiorkor (edematous PCM) and marasmus (nonedematous PCM) are common in underdeveloped countries and in areas in which dietary amino acid content is insufficient to satisfy growth requirements. Kwashiorkor typically occurs at about age 1, after infants are weaned from breast milk to a protein-deficient diet of starchy gruels or sugar water, but it can develop at any time during the formative years. Marasmus affects infants ages 6 to 18 months as a result of breast-feeding failure, or a debilitating condition such as chronic diarrhea. In industrialized countries, PCM may occur secondary to chronic metabolic disease that decreases protein and calorie intake or absorption, or trauma that increases protein and calorie requirements. In the United States, PCM is estimated to occur to some extent in 50% of elderly people in nursing homes. Those who aren’t allowed anything by mouth for an extended period are at high risk of developing PCM. Conditions that increase protein-calorie requirements include severe burns and injuries, systemic infections, and cancer (accounts for the largest group of hospitalized patients with PCM). Conditions that cause defective utilization of nutrients include malabsorption syndrome, short-bowel syndrome, and Crohn’s disease. Any English teachers/majors that can help? I have to do an article review. I have been out of school for 11 years. grammar stinks. I have a learning disability and I am GOING CRAZY. Anyone willing to look it over? Is it considered plaigerism? I have spent HOURS on this! Any English teachers/majors that can help?http://www.wyff4.com/encyclopedia/6860676/detail.html This is my summary: Torticollis is a medical condition that effects the neck muscles. The head is tilted toward one side, and the chin is raised and turned toward the opposite side. It can be hereditary, caused from damage done to neck muscles, or unknown. Congenital torticollis is caused by the head being positioned wrong in the uterus, injury of the muscles or blood supply to the neck. Some symptoms include stiff and/or enlarged neck muscles, headache, neck pain, tremor, raised shoulder and unevenness of infants head. Relief can come by applying heat or messaging neck, using neck brace, stretching neck muscles and medication. (rest of summary) Although temporary, a botulinum toxin injection may give a great deal of relief. As a last resort, an operation can be performed on patients as young as preschool age. The article is organized, easy to follow and very informative. It would have been better if the author added an illustration. A picture would add a little more understanding for someone who does not have any previous knowledge of the disease. Knowing a little about torticollis myself, I know there is more information that can be shared, such as, deep brain stimulation as another form of treatment, torticollis can be crippling, if severe it falls under cerebral palsy. I understand more about the disease. I did not know congenital torticollis exists so it makes me want to study it more. This article will benefit people who have been having problems with their neck or parents of children with a tilted neck. I AM SOOOO STRESSED OVER THIS. IT TOOK ME 4 HOURS TO DO THIS! Do I have cancer/leukemia? I am female, 16 years of age, with muscle pain, sickness, and malaise. My muscle pain includes a sort of heaviness, tenderness, pressure, achiness around my chest (mainly left side), arms, and shoulders (mainly left shoulder). I have been to the ER, through which urine samples, an EKG, bloodwork (they took three viles), and chest X-rays have been determined as normal, although the blood count was a slight bit high in white cells, but I went to my family doctor the day after Emergency, and had another blood test, which was normal. There is occasionally stomach upset, which feels like an eruption and I must hastily proceed to my bathroom, and my stool is cloudy when passed and is extremely soft, crumbly, yet is not exactly diarrhea and does not hurt my anal region as diarrhea would, and the painful desire to expel my bowels does not return after it is passed. There is also a fever. I am not certain of how to check for swollen lymph nodes, and a doctor never checked for them. I originally thought I was having cardiac problems. These symptoms I am experiencing interfere with my quality of living. I have had breathing difficulties (in which I have had to breathe heavy) and chest pressure, and there was simply nothing determined to be wrong with me. My muscles in my shoulders have a lot of pressure and pain, that I just wish could lift off of me. I sometimes have a very weird feeling in my chest which cannot be localized (but it doesn't seem to be my lungs) and I feel I must lie in bed, and I suffer tremendously. This weird feeling makes me experience the need to cough. I am very weak, sometimes fatigued, and a little dizzy. There can occasionally be pain in my legs as well, and sometimes pressure on the upper left side of my stomach. Is this my spleen, or just my stomach? My pains are NOT sharp. My stomach rumbles and my throat gurgles often. I have had a headache, and generally just don't feel right. I have gone to my family doctor as well, and again, there was nothing perceivably wrong with me. I am profoundly unnerved when they dismiss me, hoping my age or gender is not a factor. This is certainly NOT stress, although I have been sent home, with medical professionals claiming it was probably stress. The only stress I have is caused by these unbearable symptoms and the uncertainty of my medical condition. Often, a symptom predominates all others. I was a bit dehydrated when I went to Emergency, but all they told me was to increase fluid intake. I have an irregular heartbeat, but this runs in my family and I've had it since birth. I don't know how much more I can take. This condition went away for about a week (or at least the symptoms were not present), and has returned once again. Is it serious, and what am I supposed to do? This condition is seriously destroying my life. I fall asleep with these symptoms, and even have them upon waking, although previously they were more intermittent. I am young and I just want to live! I am tired of fighting this alone. I just wish I could be diagnosed with something (non-serious, of course) just to put my mind at ease, and so my symptoms could be alleviated with medication and the disorder itself would no longer be there to interfere with my quality of living, because there is definitely something wrong. I want peace of mind, and I sincerely want my health to return to its optimal condition. I am fearful of simply being dismissed with nothing, because I just can't endure having to live like this and do not want to fight it on my own any longer, not even knowing what it is. I have a terrible fear of death. I just want to live normally, without health concerns. Please sympathize and help me, or else I just won't know what to do. This is the scariest thing I have ever had to face, and I just want to be completely cured. Please, are there any suggestions as to what this could be, and do you think it's serious, like leukemia? This is not asthma or pneumonia or stress. I was given Z-pack antibiotics for the possibility of infection by the Redicare clinic where I live. I vomited and had pouring, intense diarrhea, which was all over my clothes, the bed, and the floor. I do not think that this was due to my illness, but I drank water to clear it up. I never had these symptoms with my condition before, so the doctor told me to quit taking the medication. These are supposedly the side effects for some people, and not due to an overdose. I need a CAT scan and echocardiogram ordered by my family doctor on Tuesday. So I have a question for you: if I have already had blood work, an EKG, a urine sample, and chest X-rays, which were negative for any sort of condition, would the CAT scan and echocardiogram detect EVERYTHING? I will address leukemia with my family doctor, and maybe she will want more tests done. Do you think it's leukemia? I have gone almost a month without treatment for it, and the condition is still here, and I am scared on behalf of my prolonged lack of treatment. Will I survive, go into remission, without the possibility of recurrence or is my prognosis most likely to be poor, assuming I have leukemia? Please provide helpful and very knowledgable responses.
Could I have schizotypal personality disorder? Just found this info which helped me, may be part of my illness Certain physical medical conditions, drug interactions, and chronic substance abuse can also result in symptoms that mimic schizotypal personality disorder, as can certain language and communication disorders. Certain types of mental disorders and personality disorders can also produce similar symptoms, including: •Asperger's syndrome •autism •avoidant personality disorder •borderline personality disorder •delusion disorder •narcissistic personality disorder •paranoid personality disorder •schizoid personality disorder •schizophrenia. I am diagnosed with schizophrenia, but reading info on schizotypal personality sounds more like me. Sure I had all the bad stuff associated with schizophrenia, but now I am taking meds most of it is gone. The only thing left seems to fit right into schizotypal personality disorder. The sexual drive but no desire for sex with others, the wanting to be alone yet having bizarre thoughts how relationships work, the need for a relationship but fear at the same time, the not wanting people close to me, staying home new years eve and having a couple of close friends only. I have been evaluated by lots of doctors who all say I am fine, but I am a better judge I believe. Sorry this was not written well, my keyboard is stuck, hard to type.

Is there a medical examination that test for every possible ailment? I've been either sick or have had some type of disorder that im just noticing now for as long as I can remember now, and it only seems to grow worse with each passing day. I've gone to every sort of doctor imaginable, including a sleep study professional, an ENT, a psychologist, psychiatrist, general practitioner and more. I think part of the trouble with diagnosing my ailment is that the primary problem is I just can't seem to think, and I cant even find words to desrcibe what im going through. Is there a test that can perform a comprehensive sweep of every bodily function, check everu possibility? My symptoms basically include - feeling that im just "lost" anywhere I go - fatigue -I cant absorb any information and cant even connect basic strings of words together i.e. simple directions, basic sentences, etc - I feel almost like im a third party observer to my life - headache usually across entire head, but focused near the back - just seems like my mind is slowly dying more or less -theres more but i cant think of the words for them. my condition may have something to do with my mind lol. 22 hours ago I've been taking wellbutrin for the past 3 weeks and it doesnt really solve the problem, it just makes me extremely hyper and antsy, it doesnt really touch on the main problem.
Why in Malaysia the doctor don't allow us to take vitamin and supplement? What do you thinks about this? What are vitamins? Vitamins are substances that your body needs to work properly and keep you in good health. Most vitamins cannot be made by the body, so they have to be provided by your diet in small regular amounts.1 Why do I need vitamins? Your body uses vitamins to do a number of things, including building and maintaining tissues and organs. Vitamins provide energy, boost the immune system, keep skin healthy and help keep the brain and nervous system in good working order.2 Improve Overall Joint Health Without Using Pain Killers Reduces joint pain • Relieve pain caused by inflammation commonly arising from arthritis, joint injuries and everyday aches and pains Reduces inflammation and swelling • Uses potent, natural anti-inflammatory ingredients to reduce swelling Improves mobility • Improves blood circulation and reduces inflammation leading to increased mobility • Nourishes joints and speeds healing Safer for your liver, kidneys and stomach • A safe and effective alternative to traditional pain medications • Uses Boswellia - an herb with pain reducing benefits - as a safe and effective alternative to NSAIDs (Ibuprofen, aspirin and naproxen) Buy Motion for your joint and muscle pain and inflammation .............................................................................................. DRUGS are chemicals that can prevent, prolong the life, treat other effects of a health condition, improve the quality of life, and/or cure ailments and diseases, or alter the function of any part or chemicals inside the body. These drugs have approved therapeutic claims. Drug Side Effects A side effect is usually regarded as an undesirable secondary effect which occurs in addition to the desired therapeutic effect of a drug or medication. Side effects may vary for each individual depending on the person's disease state, age, weight, gender, ethnicity and general health. Side effects can occur when commencing, decreasing/increasing dosages, or ending a drug or medication regimen. Side effects may also lead to non-compliance with prescribed treatment.Medication A medication or medicine is a drug taken to cure and/or ameliorate any symptoms of an illness or medical condition, or may be used as preventive medicine that has future benefits but does not treat any existing or pre-existing diseases or symptoms. (Redirected from Adverse effect (medicine)) In medicine, an adverse effect is a harmful and undesired effect resulting from a medication or other intervention such as surgery. An adverse effect may be termed a "side effect", when judged to be secondary to a main or therapeutic effect, and may result from an unsuitable or incorrect dosage or procedure, which could be due to medical error. Adverse effects are sometimes referred to as "iatrogenic" because they are generated by a physician/treatment. Some adverse effects only occur only when starting, increasing or discontinuing a treatment. Using a drug or other medical intervention which is contraindicated may increase the risk of adverse effects. Adverse effects may cause medical complications of a disease or procedure and negatively affect its prognosis. They may also lead to non-compliance with a treatment regimen. The harmful outcome is usually indicated by some result such as morbidity, mortality, alteration in body weight, levels of enzymes, loss of function, or as a pathological change detected at the microscopic, macroscopic or physiological level. It may also be indicated by symptoms reported by a patient. Adverse effects may cause a reversible or irreversible change, including an increase or decrease in the susceptibility of the individual to other chemicals, foods, or procedures, such as drug interactions. ................................................................................................... Chemotherapy The overall impact of chemotherapy on cancer survival can be difficult to estimate, since improved cancer screening, prevention (e.g. anti-smoking campaigns), and detection all influence statistics on cancer incidence and mortality. In the United States, overall cancer incidence rates were stable from 1995 through 1999, while cancer death rates decreased steadily from 1993 through 1999.[1] Again, this likely reflects the combined impact of improved screening, prevention, and treatment. Nonetheless, cancer remains a major cause of illness and death, and conventional cytotoxic chemotherapy has proven unable to cure most cancers after they have metastasized. As is obvious from their origins, the above cancer chemotherapies are essentially poisons. Side-effects The treatment can be physically exhausting for the patient. Current chemotherapeutic techniques have a range of side effects mainly affecting the fast-dividing cells of the body. The most common side effects include (dependent on the agent):[citation needed] Pain, Erythema, Nausea, Diarrhea or constipation, Anemia,Malnutrition Hair loss, Memo relax...laa..red thin line...I don't talk too much I type too much...so how can I shut down.... Your opinion on personality disorders? Do you think i have a disorder based on the following information: (Schizoid Personality disorder) A. A pervasive pattern of detachment from social relationships and a restricted range of expression of emotions in interpersonal settings, beginning by early adulthood and present in a variety of contexts, as indicated by four (or more) of the following: 1. neither desires nor enjoys close relationships, including being part of a family 2. almost always chooses solitary activities 3. has little, if any, interest in having sexual experiences with another person 4. takes pleasure in few, if any, activities 5. lacks close friends or confidants other than first-degree relatives 6. appears indifferent to the praise or criticism of others 7. shows emotional coldness, detachment, or flattened affect B. Does not occur exclusively during the course of schizophrenia, a mood disorder with psychotic features, another psychotic disorder, or a pervasive developmental disorder and is not due to the direct physiological effects of a general medical condition. (Avoidant personality disorder) * Hypersensitivity to criticism or rejection * Self-imposed social isolation * Extreme shyness in social situations, though feels a strong desire for close relationships[4] * Avoids interpersonal relationships * Feelings of inadequacy * Emotional distancing related to intimacy * Highly self-conscious * Self-critical about their problems relating to others * Lonely self-perception Those are the symptoms of each disorder that I feel I have. I lack many friends through simple lack of care. I quite simply do not attempt to form personal contacts, sexual or platonic. I have the ability to emphasize with other people I just don't attempt to most of the time. I prefer to spend my time on solitary engagements such as reading books or scientific journals. The few(very few) friends I do have are not important to me, that being I have no need to socialize with them. If the urge strikes me and they have something going on that I will join them but I never will initiate the social event. Thanks in advance.
I have no health insurance but need medical advice..? I have no health insurance, so seeing a doctor in the near future is not something likely for me. However I have been having symptoms that are scaring me and seem to be getting worse. I am a musician and a singer (not professionally) and this scares me because I'm afraid it will effect my hobby. I am healthy, 20 years old, and do no drugs, do not smoke, or drink alcohol. My symptoms include: *Fatigue *Loss of strength *Slurring Words *Writing/ saying words/numbers backwards or in the wrong order *Frequently saying the wrong word, while using a word that "relates" somehow in my mind (i.e. calling an orange (fruit) a "green" - green is opposite orange on color wheel) *Poor grip in right hand *Loss of dexterity in left hand (while playing music) What could be causing this? It is get progressively worse and I want to know if anyone thinks its a serious condition or something that will go away. Thank you.
Phantom pregnancy...?? Can you experience a phantom pregnancy without actually believing that you are pregnant? I have all of the physical signs of pregnancy... including a hard swollen belly... but I am NOT pregnant. My friends and family and husband all joke that I am, but I'm actually not... although for months my stomach has been larger and harder, i am craving strange foods, and turned off by other foods that I normally like. I have a heightened sense of smell, and even brushing my teeth in the morning makes me gag and/or throw up. I am, however, still getting my period... though a few have been very light and short. I have taken multiple pregnancy tests and all have been negative.... and I just don't THINK I am pregnant. Could this be some sort of medical condition? What else could cause these symptoms? I don't have health insurance... so I can't just go to the doctor and start having tests run to find out what is wrong... that would be the easy answer... Maybe I should add that my sister IS pregnant. Could this be like a sympathy pregnancy?? haha
PLEASE HELP....?!?!?!? ok my mom doesn't want to go to the doctor but i am really worried she has bleeding when she goes to the restroom to poop, she has bruises and this little red dots on her legs and she says her legs really hurt she is a waitress. for some reason it occur to me that she may have leukemia and i checked and article for the symptoms and this is what it said: In many cases, the first signs and symptoms of leukemia are nonspecific (vague). Early signs also may occur with other types of cancer or with other medical conditions. Although leukemia signs and symptoms vary depending on the type of disease, there are some general features. Broad symptoms of leukemia include the following: Fatigue Malaise (vague feeling of bodily discomfort) Abnormal bleeding Excessive bruising Weakness Reduced exercise tolerance Weight loss Bone or joint pain Infection and fever Abdominal pain or "fullness" Enlarged spleen, lymph nodes, and liver Chronic leukemia often goes undetected for many years and may be identified in a routine blood test. In fact, nearly one in five chronic leukemia patients do not report symptoms at the time of diagnosis. Most symptoms of acute leukemia are caused by low levels of normal blood cells, which is due to overcrowding of the blood-forming bone marrow by leukemia cells. she doesn't eat that much either because she says she feels like she is going to vomit, PLEASE HELP. (how can i convince her to go to the doctor) THANKS other symptom Tiny red spots in your skin (petechiae) but how can i tell her it may be leukimia she doesn't know what it may be and i really don't want to make her sad right now.
What possible problems could produce these unusual symptoms? Before I say anything else: Please do not just answer with things like "Go to the emergency room/doctor/hospital" and nothing else. It isn't happening to me, and it isn't happening right now, so that doesn't help at all. Thank you. I'm trying to understand something that happened to one of my roommates recently. If it is appropriate to recommend medical care (immediate or otherwise,) please do so in the context of a longer answer with an explanation as to what you suspect might have happened and why a doctor should be consulted. I'm trying to understand something, not get advice about whether or not to get the problem treated and how fast. Your answers should reflect this. Again, thank you very much for your consideration in this matter. :) Just pretend this person is in front of you right now and answer to the best of your ability. Drug ingestion/withdrawal (legal and illegal), malingering, and psychosomatism have already been ruled out as possible causes. The person in question is 19 and female. She is hypoglycemic, anemic, hemophilic, is infected with MRSA, and has been in full remission from lung cancer for a few years. She also suffers from some mental health issues, including BPD, but they do not seem to be involved. She is lying down but able to sit up with some minor help. There is overall muscular weakness. She feels as if she is "dying" (she knows she isn't actually going to die, but that's the subjective description of how it feels.) There are many obvious involuntary tremors, jerks, and other uncontrolled motor activity across the entire body, not just the limbs. The muscles in both feet have cramped up and locked to the point that the joints are all immobile. She is conscious, somewhat "out of it" but basically oriented, and is capable of clear verbal communication, albeit her voice is soft and weak. She feels a constant, overwhelming internal heat alternating with coldness, and an internal "fading" sensation. Her pupils are of normal size and respond normally to light. She has not vomited but feels as if she would were she to attempt to ingest anything. No thermometer is available to use, but a manual attempt to estimate her temperature (hand on forehead) suggests no, or very mild, fever. Forehead feels damp and clammy. There is noticeable but not profuse sweating. The syndrome began unexpectedly and without warning, developing over the course of ten to fifteen minutes and persisting for over an hour at least, with full consciousness the entire time. A panic attack was suffered several hours earlier in the day, a few other more routine daily-life stressors happened, but these happened many hours before the syndrome manifested and seem unrelated. No other noteworthy incidents have occurred. Sleep the night before was very poor to nonexistent. No food has been eaten today. There was transient vomiting earlier in the day. She has taken her glucose as prescribed. What is going on with this girl? Is this a specific identifiable disorder or something less easily defined? If it is a specific condition, what is it called and what triggers it? Is this something for which she needs medical care or can it be treated safely at home? If so, what are appropriate measures to take? If the symptoms return, should she go to the emergency room, or make an appointment to see her primary care physician? Should she see her doctor about the incident even if the syndrome does not return? Please provide as much detail and specificity as possible in your reply. The more accurate data I can get, the better. If you need more information, please say so and I will edit this query to include it if possible. I would love to hear from one or more people with medical degree(s) and training, but I need to hear from anyone with knowledge and/or experience with this. Thank you very much for your time and expertise in solving this puzzling conundrum. Thank you very much, but I said above that I have already ruled out psychiatric causes. The panic attack happened 12+ hours before the symptoms began, and she was fine between then and the beginning of the problem. Also, she is/was emotionally calm and not exhibiting any signs of panic or serious anxiety. Her breathing was normal. These aren't just little tremblings I'm talking about, they're almost seizure-like jerks and convulsions, just not quite so intense or overwhelming. I too have suffered from panic attacks and have helped her through several of her own in the past. If it were a panic attack I would have known it. A kidney stone seems a more likely possibility... wouldn't that be associated with kidney pain, though?
What condition could this be? OK, I know this is just the internet. Yes, I am already seeing a doctor and none of the advice given here will be taken as official medical advice. I just want some people to bounce some ideas around on and of course I will talk to my real doctors about this, so no need to state the obvious as a reply. What could this be? I have episodes of low blood sugar, but they are totally random. I wont necessarily get it if I fast and sometimes I get it just a few hours after eating. Even moderately low blood sugar around 70 or 80 produces severe panic attack symptoms. Spikes in blood pressure, dizziness, confusion, even difficulty talking. I do not take insulin and am not diagnosed diabetic. Its random and eating well doesnt usually help. Caffeine makes it worse, drinking the night before makes it worse and some medications make it worse. I also have two other auto-immune conditions, MS and Ulcerative Colitis/Crohns. I have in the past taken high doses of steroids for these conditions and have previously shown signs of adrenal fatigue. I do not know if I have recovered from this or not, but I have these panic attack symptoms since before I ever has MS or steroids. I sometimes wake up afraid due to odd sensations, like I was falling. I have in the past had random chest pain (not severe). I sometimes have joint pains. I have extreme difficulty sleeping sometimes. It always takes me a long time to fall asleep and I am sometimes a very light sleeper who wakes up before feeling rested. I tested negative for Lyme, Western Blot as well as spinal tap. Tested positive for Oligodendrocyte bands in my spinal fluid, suggesting MS, but segregative lyme is always a possibility. I have been to the rainforest (Panama to Guatemala). I had a rash on my back that went away with anti-fungals. I DO have a raised rash above my butt that responds to anti-inflammatory cream. I have anti-bodies to anti-gliadin but dont have anti-tissue transglutamase or signs of celiac on biopsy after resuming gluten diet for 1 week. I did abuse caffeine and energy pills in my youth. I drank moderately heavily for 2 years then cut way back. I have lived around lots of mold, including while I was on steroids for MS. My triglycerides are high. My blood sugar is not. I am in fairy good shape and am muscular. I exercise and am a martial artist. I could have more than 1 condition here. I probably do, but I suspect that some of these conditions might be linked and have a single underlying cause that has not been discovered. No advice will be official, but any ideas or shots in the dark would be appreciated....do we have any doctor Houses around here? My left is bigger.
scared of a brain tumor!? I'm 17 years old and I'm really scared that I have a brain tumor. Since June 2007, I've suffered from almost-daily headahces. In July '07, the CT scan of my brain came back clear; I'm still suffering with headaches. My other symptoms include: short-term memory loss (I can hardly remember anything; long-term memory is fine); vision problems; occasionally feeling like I'm going to pass out when I stand up; fatigue; a feeling of slight pain, discomfort, or fullness in my ears; and an occasional feeling of weakness in my arms. As far as previous medical conditions, I have a thyroid problem (hyperthyroidism at the moment; I just got my levels checked the other day and I am waiting for the results); I have astigmatism (I'm getting my contacts very soon); and I have an occasionally misaligned neck. Do I have anything to worry about? My symptoms have still lasted even though my CT apparently was clean. I'm so scared. Any help would be appreciated. I've also been very cold for the past few days, and I've been seeing colorful spots on occasion (like what you see after you have your picture taken). Yes, I do see an endocrinologist; I'm also able to test my blood at any time (my father is a diabetic), but my blood sugar is absolutely perfect every time. I check it both when I'm feeling "normal"' or when I'm feeling dizzy and a little off.
What can a 21-year-female do to prevent/reverse major hair loss? Recently I've been experiencing major, alarming hair loss. My hair is course, dry, and brittle, and it will come out every time I even touch it. I'm only 21-years-old. I'll admit that I've done my fair share of hair dying, but I haven't done any recently, and I've been doing everything to take care of my hair--including not blow-drying it, not shampooing as often, heavy condition/deep-conditioning. I don't have any other symptoms of anything, so I don't think it's a medical condition. Please help!
Who else is fed up with doctors? My husband has been disabled since Jan. 2001 with a disorder that has yet been diagnosed and effectively treated. He currently has 6 specialists, and has seen approximately 60 different doctors over the past 7 1/2 years. In 2002 the local doctors sent him to the Mayo Clinic where over the period of a week they performed numerous tests and still could not provide a diagnosis. So, in essence they have prescribed many medications to treat the symptoms, which have included prednisone, many antibiotics and various degrees of pain medication. At this time, he takes pain medication, spiriva, blood pressure medication and prilosec. This is the least amount of meds he has taken in years because he got so fed up a few months ago he just stopped taking the rest. All the medications of course take their own toll, and he has undergone two neck surgeries in two years for the ill effects of massive amounts of steroids. The neurosurgeon commented after the last surgery that he found advanced arthritis in my husbands shoulders. So, my husband has been seeing an orthopedic specialist for this new problem. Here's the rub: this new specialist sees 80 patients a day. He is like the clinic's golden boy. He is supposedly a very good doctor, but I find it very hard to believe that he can effectively treat ANY of his patients in just 6 minutes, which is what 80 patients a day averages out to be. Last month, this doctor became very angry at my husband, basically accusing him of "faking", badgering him with questions and not allowing my husband to answer before firing another one at him. My husband's medical file is very large, the doctor told us that he didn't have time to read it and told us to prepare a synopsis of my husband's medical condition, a history with dates of all problems, and medications prescribed to treat those problems. We were stunned, bewildered and really didn't have time to react since our 6 minutes were up. My husband must return to this doctor today for his followup -- and I have figured out that those precious 6 minutes cost us $13.33 per hour based on what he gets from insurance and our co-pay. We don't have a synopsis prepared, and may just ask for a referral to another doctor if he feels that my husband is not worth more of his most precious time. And then we would have to start ALL over with a new doctor. Oh boy. We are FED UP with doctors. Anybody else in the same position out there? Who else is fed up with doctors? Sorry -- $13.33 per MINUTE. Wanted to add, most of the doctors have been very understanding, compassionate and apologetic that they cannot find a diagnosis. This new doctor is very different, and he got very defensive that if the Mayo couldn't diagnosis, why were even bothering with him! Still, the arthritis is a new symptom of the original problem along with those wicked steroids. Feels like we just go round in circles and my husband gets punished for having a condition that doesn't fit into the doctor's usual realm of understanding. Guess that's why it's called "practicing" medicine. Looks like we aren't the only ones -- it is so tragic to see others in the same situation. Thank you all for answering ...
Swine flu kills more people, is it getting worse now? New Zealand's Healthline received a 40 percent increase in the number of calls after the Ministry of Health announced yesterday three people with swine flu had died. Two of the people had underlying medical conditions. They were a young girl who died yesterday morning in Wellington Hospital and a 42-year-old man who died on Thursday in Christchurch. The coroner will investigate whether any medical conditions played a part in the death of Zachary Wilson, 19, from Hamilton, who died at home last Sunday without having been diagnosed with swine flu. The Ministry said swine flu was more than likely the cause of the three deaths. Following the announcement of the deaths yesterday, Healthline received 2000 calls, director of Public Health Mark Jacobs said. "There was a definite spike in calls after the news at 6pm, so I encourage people to persevere and keep holding if they call at a busy time and need to wait." Healthline, 0800 611 116, has registered nurses answering calls 24/7. New Zealand now had 961 confirmed cases, up from 945 yesterday, Dr Jacobs said. "Swine flu will be with us for quite some time and is continuing to spread throughout the community, but there is no cause for alarm." Swine flu was a mild illness for most, though it could be severe or fatal for some. "We know that people with some significant underlying medical conditions are at greater risk, however, it's important to remember that overseas experience has shown that some previously healthy people have also been seriously affected by swine flu," Dr Jacobs said. People should continue to: - stay home if they are sick; - cover their coughs and sneezes; - frequently, thoroughly wash and dry hands. Anyone who thinks they have the flu and have other significant medial conditions should call Healthline or their doctor. People should also seek medical advice if flu symptoms worsen, for example if they are having difficulty breathing, get drowsier or if taking medication such as paracetamol or ibuprofen does not lower a high temperature. There are 62 probable cases of swine flu in New Zealand. The number of confirmed cases in each region are: Northland (20), Auckland (202), Waikato (45), Bay of Plenty/Lakes (29), Gisborne (2), Hawkes Bay (84), Taranaki (3), Wanganui/Palmerston North (14), Wellington (292), Nelson/Marlborough (22), Canterbury (234), Otago/Southland (14). Australia has had more than 5250 confirmed cases and 10 deaths. Worldwide on Friday there had been 89,921 cases, including 382 deaths. -NZPA wow this boy died at home!!!!! this is why its so importent to get yourself too a docter or hospital and get treated otherwise you can die!! and he was 19 what is wrong with people over there? are they so stupid they dont allow patients to go to docters or seek medical help, in australia you would be sent straight away with flu like symptoms
After reading this warning label, would you drink this? This is a drink I've gotten addicted to. It has 250 mg of caffeine in it, making up 2 servings. But this is one of the longest warning labels I've ever read. It's kind of scary 'cause when I don't have it, I can't function normally. REDLINE Xtreme ULTIMATE ENERGY RUSH! Munchausen by proxy syndrome - advice? I need some advice on how my family might approach this issue with a relative who I/we suspect has this syndrome. I have become very suspicious that all of my cousins constant medical problems regarding her 2 children (particularly her 14-17 yr old daughter) are in fact not substantiated and are actually completely fabricated. The list of her own behaviours is too long to mention here but I did a bit of research and couldn't believe what I was reading was exactly how she has been behaving! She is married but her husband is not available to her emotionally and is basically just a whining, attention-seeking loser to be honest. They both have a drinking problem and I suspect (although I'm not sure) they may have a drug problem. Her teenage daughter (who was always such a beautiful girl who did very well in school) has been kept out of school with one medical condition after another since she was 14-15 (now 17). My cousing has been complaining about how difficult she has been for years (apparently a drug addict (which I NEVER believed); had a myriad of health problems that ended up isolating her from all of her school friends and after school sports; and is apparently the 'worst' teenager ever). I am the ONLY person (friend or family) that did not believe her daughter was that sick, or to blame for all of her mother's problems (severe stress; alcohol abuse; manic behaviour that the rest of the family thought was due to having to deal with her awful teenage daughter). As far as I am concerned nothing was ever substantiated, she kept going to different Doctors etc. It just all seemed wierd to me and I suspected that the mother was the one with the problems - but the family just didn't listen to me. Her daughter has now gone to live Interstatee (sent by her parents who couldn't cope with her anymore). My parents offered to help and were happy to have her daughter go live with them. My Mother has since taken her for a complete medical check-up only to find out she was a completely healthy teenager (albeit with low self-esteem)!! Just as I suspected my cousins other child (a 12 yr old boy) still lives at home and has now started to develop a myriad of illnesses - including the serious 'diagnosis' of crones (??) disease and we were told by the mother he would need a major operation. We then found out later it wasn't a majo operationon but a minor procedure through yet another specialist looking for something to fit his 'symptoms'. What can we do about getting my cousin help? I have had to cut her off because I believe she has committed child abuse. She thinks everyone else in the family is nuts and that she is the only sane one so I know she is not ready to face up to the truth about what she has done to these beautiful children. I am just so angry at her, but I also want her to get help. Any advise on where to start or how to approach this issue?
Need help with my essay please.? This is an argumentive essay but we were able to choose a side or explain cause and effects. Please let me know what is wrong. Walker Writing 122 29 May 2009 Pain Medications are Ruining Our Lives If you think about how often a person goes to the doctor for pain its more than necessary. Doctors prescribe you a pain pill no matter what you may have, you go in for a cold and they give you vicodin, you have a headache and you get oxycodeine, your glands in your neck are swollen so they give you a pain shot. In fact, painkiller use has boomed by 88% in less than a decade. Every year more and more humans get addicted to pain pills. Not only does the person ruin their life (health), but they are also harming everyone around them. However not all the time is it the persons fault for becoming addicted, but it’s the doctors fault. Doctors (especially in Roseburg) are extremly lazy and really don’t care about their patients. They want you in and out as quickly as possible. So for most people if you are in pain you will get vicodin automatically. Yes vicodin is the most body friendly prescription, but it is very addictive. What consumers don’t realize is the major side affects that the doctors know. You don’t get a, “warning this drug may cause an addiction,” label on the side of the prescription nor on the paperwork that comes with it. So the average American is really clueless when they take that first dose. However, many pain pills also carry a dangerous side effect (the potential for addiction). Many people have become addicted over the years to drugs that should have been used only temporarily to treat a medical condition. Taken too long or in larger amounts than prescribed, many drugs can become a problem and a threat to your life and other around you. About 6.2 million Americans abuse painkillers, sedatives, tranquilizers, and stimulants (making prescription drugs second to marijuana). Among uses of all drugs that's more than the number of cocaine addicts nationwide and the number appears to be growing. With each year, pain pills are getting pushed to everyone that has any kind of symptoms. When a person starts a pain pill, after taking the pill for so long, that person gets addicted (An addiction is primarily a state where the body begins to rely on a drug or an external chemical substance in order to carry out its normal functions. For instance vicodin is the most body friendly drug but very addicting.). The person loves the feeling that he/she has when they are on the pill (usually most people feel energy but there isn’t the caffeine headache/crash from drinking caffeine) that they want more. Then the person is tracking down people that have that pain medications that they need and once they find a person with their pill of choice they buy it for an outrageous amount of money (oxycotin is one of the worst pills out there and people spend up to sixty dollars just for one pill). People buying each others prescriptions are happening more and more each day. The people today are so bad about needing/wanting the pills that they will go through garbage’s just to find what they need. Most of the pills being prescribed give the user major withdrawls and the person has to get professional help to get off the medication. You get placed on a medication to get better not to get addicted then have to spend more money on classes to get over your addiction. Not only is it a waste of money, but to be seen by a doctor for your addiction can take up to six months or even longer. The United States has become a huge pill popping nation. Everyone wants a pill to relieve them of any feeling that is undesirable. The most commonly abused medications include pain relievers such as: Vicodin, Oxycontin, Percocet and Morphine; Depressants like: Valium and Xanax; As well as Stimulants including: Adderall and Ritalin. It is estimated that twenty percent of Americans age twelve and older have used prescription medications for non-medical use (the young children are becoming addicted and starting to sell pills as well). The elderly are usually more vulnerable for abuse issues because they are generally prescribed more medications than other age groups. However, prescription drug abuse is increasing most in ages 18-25 up from 5.4% in 2002 to 6.4% in 2006. Prescription medications are perceived as an expected discomfort relief tool or a luxury for those in dire need. With today's addictive epidemic, narcotic medications need to be administered more sparingly to avoid abuse and addiction. Many do not recognize that turning to prescription medications for relief opens the door to possible abuse and addiction. Of course when you feel pain, you definitely don’t like the feeling, but pain isn’t going to kill us. Pain is a message that tells are body that we are alive. It lets us no good and bad. Pain can tell us that we need to exercise, get up and stretch, or that
Medical History/joining the Army? I'm about to be 17 and looking at the split option program for the Army. I have parental permission and everything but im not sure about my medical history. When I was around 2-ish I had a case of Acute Cerebellar ataxia. It's not a degenerative condition and I am perfectly ok in every way. Here is some info on it: Causes Acute cerebellar ataxia is most common in children, especially those younger than 3 years old. It often occurs several weeks after a viral illness. Viral infections that may cause this include chickenpox, Coxsackie disease, Epstein-Barr, and mycoplasma pneumonia. Exposure to older insecticides called organophosphates may also cause ataxia. Back to TopSymptoms Ataxia may affect movement of the middle part of the body from the neck to the hip area (the trunk) or the arms and legs (limbs). When the child is sitting, the body may move side-to-side, back-to-front, or both, and quickly move back to an upright position. When a person with ataxia of the arms reaches for an object, their hand may sway back and forth. Common symptoms of ataxia are listed below. * Sudden, uncoordinated movement * Walking problems (unsteady gait) * Sudden eye movements (nystagmus) * Clumsy speech pattern (dysarthria) Pretty much, it goes away on its own and did. The best I could find when researching disqualifying conditions for the military was degenrative conditions but it's not degenerative. I am planning on meeting with a recruiter within the week to discuss this but I would like some opinions in the meantime. If anyone has any info on the Military enlistment and this condition it would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
I have been suffering from a medical condition and tried out for basketball without knowing it and got cut ? Ima 15 year old sophmore in high school and At football practice towards the end of october I was hit in the back and experienced terrible pain in my back towards my last rib. I came home from practice and had my mom take me to the ER to get X rays onit they came back negative. I still felt pain but thought nothing of it I continued with football and would hurt but like I said I thought it was fine.I played two more games. I then woke up one morning having severe trouble breathing. I stayed home and scheduled an appointment with my physician she toldme I was fine and that the breathing problems were associated with a tore muscle that occured during football she gave me a prescription for extra strength ibuprofen toldme to take that with 2 tylenol. I stayed out of school and just rested for 3 days when I returned to my physician with no improvement. She then sent me for x rays which would reveal a pneumonia she then prescribed a z pack which kept me out of school and football for another week. Upon completing the Z pack I returned to school the following week I attended Monday Tuesday and Wednesday.I woke up Thursday Morning and experienced terrible trouble breathing. I went back to my physician who sent me for xrays which came back being very bad she told me that I had to be admitted to the Hospital immediately. So I went when I arrived on what would become an 8 day stay they sent me for many tests including CT scans and MRI the results showed that my rib was in fact broken. my 12th rib was broke right next to my spine. This was not all that the tests had shown in fact they had shown that a staff infection had sprouted around my lung and kidneys and the infection had pocketed. The doctors scheduled a procedure. What they did was they putme to sleep and navigated by ultrasound they found the pockets and drained them. They decided to leave a chesttube in me so that they could get more of the fluid out. So I healed and was released from the hospital on the friday before last. Now what you need to know is that I am an avid basketball player and that I play AAU and even got spoke to by a college coach last year while at a talent camp. everyday during the summer I practiced for four hours a day.I was poised to have a great Sophmore season of basketball. When I came out of Anesthesia the first thing I asked was could I play basketball. It is my life. Tryouts were the day after thanksgiving exactly one week after I was discharged. The doctor said to rest fro Saturday and Sunday but I could start trying to get in shape on monday. So that is what I did I started lightly just jogging on monday but then I got right back into it on Tuesday going full speed tuesday and wednesday. On wednesday I had an appointment with an infectious disease doctor who was worried about the staff infection coming back. to prevent this she prescribed a type of pennicilin called Clindimycin so I thought I was good to go for tryouts Thanksgiving came and I thought I was alright but I started feeling itchiness and developed like welts on my back and legs. I thought they were just hives from the whole ordeal I had just overcome. I woke up the next morning with the welts still being there and a new symptommy joints were experiencing pain and my knees and legs were swollen I decided I had come this far and I would grin and bear it and tryout which was probably not the best decision on my part. I showed up and was very sluggish and found it hard to move and play defense. I even felt my legs collapse on me once while driving to the bucket. I found it hard to breathe. I hoped that my performance on the court would shield these problems or that in knowing that I was in the hospital they would look favorably on me but low and behold they didn't. I came back the next day only to find out I had been cut from the team. Later that night the welts got worse and worse and they were itchy so I told my mom and she called the doc who didn't get back to us until today. she asked me how long these symptoms had been going on and I told her the whole story. she concluded that I have been suffering from a very rare but serious allergic reaction to the drug Penicillin which is found in Clindimycin. In finding out that my performance was inhibited I was destraut knowing that due to something I could not control the one thing I love was taken away from me. The doctor was very kind and gave me a note to give the varsity coach explaining what I was going through and that my play was inhibited due to this reaction. Now the problem I am having is that My school has employed a new head basketball coach whois looking to make a name for himself. I don't think he would feel it smart to readmit a cut player. I feel that if he knew me he would know that Iwill work for every minute if any that I would receive if only he gave me that spot. I have a meeting scheduled with him for tuesday to discuss with him why he decided to cut him where I will divulge to him the new found i
Will my medical condition stop me from joining the USMC?!? hemorrhagic telangiectasia is a rare inherited disorder characterized by malformations of various blood vessels usually resulting in excessive bleeding (hemorrhaging). Is there a way I can work around it?

Even though Korea recognized acupuncture and Joe's grand father is the top acupuncture physician there, he can't help. Others specialist can not do much for remedy. Being a father of an autistic kid, his father has a lot of pressure and looking for answer desperately. There finally came to see our MASTER LEONG through high recommendation from a friend. When he first came into our centre everyone in the premise had a shock from his 'super-hyper active behavior'.Jumping and screaming all over the place and zero communication and eyes contact. He is in his own world, very scared and frustrated, until he hits himself on the head continuous for about 10 mins to 30 mins. Master Leong applied Qi Qong and acupuncture treatment to calmed him down. According to Master Leong it is his brain's Qi is not moving smoothly . He calm down after 30 minutes ,then had another session of Qi Qong and acupuncture after one hour. 3 days of treatment went by and they can see that Joe can respond to instruction from his father and has some eyes contact. They went back to Korea because his father has only 3 days of lift from work, but he book for the second visit that is after six months. He took 6 months of herbal medication ( 168 TOLE'S SPECIAL BRAIN'S POWDER )home and a list of do's and done's . After 6 months they came for 30 days of treatment. We saw a lot of different from 6 months back when they first visit us. The father is so happy and told us he have finally found the right place for his son Joe. He said all his relative in Korea said he has improved a lot since he took our treatment and special brain's powder. For the 30 days here everyday he has 2 session of treatment, that is 60 treatments in total. We can see him improving everyday and in the end of the treatment he was about 80% !!! recovered. They have to go home now and promise to come in 12 months time. This time he took 12 months of medication (Tole's Brain's powder) with him. The 3rd visit comes, he was almost 100% recovered!!! when we see him. Still we give him the same treatment for 30 days. In the end of this trip he is quit confident and normal in most of his activities. They went home with a HAPPY HEART !!! NO MORE MEDICINE, WORRY, STRESS, FRUSTRATION, SLEEPLESS NIGHT. AUTISM Isolated in worlds of their own, people with autism appear indifferent and remote and are unable to form emotional bonds with others. Although people with this baffling brain disorder can display a wide range of symptoms and disability, many are incapable of understanding other people's thoughts, feelings, and needs. Often, language and intelligence fail to develop fully, making communication and social relationships difficult. Many people with autism engage in repetitive activities, like rocking or banging their heads, or rigidly following familiar patterns in their everyday routines. Some are painfully sensitive to sound, touch, sight, or smell. Children with autism do not follow the typical patterns of child development. In some children, hints of future problems may be apparent from birth. In most cases, the problems become more noticeable as the child slips farther behind other children the same age. Other children start off well enough. But between 18 and 36 months old, they suddenly reject people, act strangely, and lose language and social skills they had already acquired. As a parent, teacher, or caregiver you may know the frustration of trying to communicate and connect with children or adults who have autism. You may feel ignored as they engage in endlessly repetitive behaviors. You may despair at the bizarre ways they express their inner needs. And you may feel sorrow that your hopes and dreams for them may never materialize. But there is help-and hope. Gone are the days when people with autism were isolated, typically sent away to institutions. Today, many youngsters can be helped to attend school with other children. Methods are available to help improve their social, language, and academic skills. Autism is found in every country and region of the world, and in families of all racial, ethnic, religious, and economic backgrounds. Emerging in childhood, it affects about 3 or 4 people in every thousand and is three to four times more common in boys than girls. Girls with the disorder, however, tend to have more severe symptoms and lower intelligence. THE TOLE is dedicated to understanding the workings and inter-relationships of the various regions of the brain, and to developing preventive measures and new treatments for disorders like autism that handicap people in school, work, and social relationships and brain damage or vegetable. Up-to-date information on autism and treatment result for autistic is the role of THE TOLE in identifying underlying causes and effective treatments are available in our Autism Herbs Treatment Cure- The Tole Main Page.: Also described are symptoms and diagnostic procedures, treatment options, strategies for coping, and sources of information and support. What is ADHD? ADHD often prevents children from learning and socializing well. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and attention deficit disorder (ADD) refer to a range of problem behaviors associated with poor attention span. These may include impulsiveness, restlessness and hyperactivity, as well as inattentiveness, and often prevent children from learning and socializing well. ADHD is sometimes referred to as hyper kinetic disorder. What are the symptoms of ADHD Attention difficulties A child must have exhibited at least six of the following symptoms for at least six months to an extent that is unusual for their age and level of intelligence. Fails to pay close attention to detail or makes careless errors during work or play. Fails to finish tasks or sustain attention in play activities. Seems not to listen to what is said to him or her. Fails to follow through instructions or to finish homework or chores (not because of confrontational behavior or failure to understand instructions). Disorganized about tasks and activities. Avoids tasks like homework that require sustained mental effort. Loses things necessary for certain tasks or activities, such as pencils, books or toys. Easily distracted. Forgetful in the course of daily activities. Hyperactivity A child must have exhibited at least three of the following symptoms for at least six months to an extent that is unusual for their age and level of intelligence. Runs around or excessively climbs over things Unduly noisy in playing, or has difficulty in engaging in quiet leisure activities. Leaves seat in classroom or in other situations where remaining seated is expected. Fidgets with hands or feet or squirms on seat. Impulsivity At least one of the following symptoms must have persisted at least for six months to an extent that is unusual for their age and level of intelligence. Blurts out answers before the questions have been completed. Fails to wait in lines or await turns in games or group situations. Interrupts or intrudes on others, e.g. jump into others conversations or games. Talks excessively without appropriate response to social restraint. Pervasiveness of attention difficulties and hyperactivity For a diagnosis or description of ADHD a child would be expected to show the above difficulties in more than one setting, e.g. at school and at home. Problems are not shown 'at home' but are very evident when a child goes to a hospital department. This can happen when parents do not realize that their child's behavior is out of the normal range (perhaps because they have no other children, or they have other children who behave similarly). It may also be because the problems are mild, or because the family has handled the attention lack at home in such a way that it is not evident there is a major problem, or because the child is very young. In those cases it is quite reasonable for parents not to consider that their child has an attention deficit problem. These conditions has a good chance to be treated, it will take time and effort to do it. The Tole's way of remedies for them is not easy and tedious, the good part is it works with many of them. Some adults that just have AD should be able to recovers too with our Remedies. The Tole's Brain Powder Autism ADHD Treatment for all special kids Treatment. Runs around or excessively climbs over things. (In adolescents or adults only feelings of restlessness may occur.) Unduly noisy in playing, or has difficulty in engaging in quiet leisure activities. Talks excessively without appropriate response to social restraint. ADHD or Others causes Epileptic seizures can cause a child to become drowsy, impairing their attention. Epilepsy can also cause unusual behavior and lead to abnormal perceptions. Hearing problems such as deafness or glue ear can make it hard for a child to follow instructions and make them appear inattentive. Reading problems, making it hard to complete tasks or follow instructions. Obsessive compulsive disorder leads to people following strange rituals that preoccupy their thoughts and distract their attention. Tourette's syndrome involves repetitive, involuntary jerking movements of the body and sudden outbursts of noise or swearing. Autism and Asperger's syndrome often lead to difficulties in understanding and using language. Prolonged periods of insufficient sleep, causing poor concentration. Some children may be very active or be easily distracted or have difficulty concentrating. If these behaviours are relatively mild, they should not be considered a disorder. Others difficulties that occurs alongside Autism ADHD ADHD often occurs alongside other difficulties and is not the sole cause of problem behavior. Children may exhibit temper tantrums, sleep disorders, and be clumsy. Other behavioral problems that occur with ADHD include: confrontational defiant behavior, which occurs in most of these kids. The child loses their temper, argues and refuses to comply with adults and deliberately annoys others. conduct disorders occur in at least 25 per cent of children. The child may be destructive or show deceitful behavior such as lying, breaking rules and stealing. specific learning difficulties, including dyslexia, occur in 25-30 per cent of children. severe clinical depression occurs in about 30 per cent of children. anxiety disorders occur in 30 per cent of children. What causes ADHD? Biological Temperamental, as this contributes to their attitude and personality. Twins suggest a genetic link to ADHD. In 80-90 per cent of identical twins where one has ADHD so does the other. Recent research also suggests there is a greater chance of inheriting the condition from male relatives such as grandfathers and uncles. Brain injuries due to birth trauma or pre-birth problems. The brain structures believed to be linked to the development of ADHD are vulnerable to hypoxic damage during birth. The damage is caused by inadequate oxygen (QI flow) reaching parts of the brain while blood flow is reduced. Environmental conditions: Family stress. Educational difficulties. ADHD diagnosis Observations to the assessment of a child with possible ADHD. There is no single diagnostic test for ADHD so different sorts of information needs to be gathered, such as the following: History of symptoms The precise nature of the difficulties, when they were first noticed, in what situations they occur, factors that exacerbate or relieve them. Medical history Risk factors that could predispose the child to ADHD include difficulties and risks in pregnancy and during birth, for example if the mother was in poor health, very young or drank alcohol or smoked or had an extended or complicated labor. Several medical conditions are known to be associated with ADHD. These include fragile-X syndrome, fetal alcohol syndrome, G6PD deficiency, phenylketonuria and generalized resistance to thyroid hormone. Accidents, operations and chronic medical conditions such as epilepsy, asthma and heart, liver and kidney disorders all need to be taken in to account. Also of possible relevance is any medication the child is taking, as well as any adverse reactions they have had to medication in the past. Past psychiatric history: Enquiring about any mental health problems the child has had can help rule out depression or anxiety being behind the symptoms. Educational history: This means the level of their ability and what specific difficulties they have, how they function within their peer group and get on with teachers, and any behavior difficulties such as suspensions or exclusions. Family history: The mental and physical health of the child's parents and other family members can be relevant, particularly regarding the incidence of ADHD or depression. Less then 1% ahs the family history but this is one of the research data base. Social assessment: The family's social circumstances, such as housing, poverty, and social support may all have an impact on the child's behavior. Less then 4 % has this problem but it should be taken into consideration. What treatment is available for ADHD? issue regarding my inlaws? I am trying to find a logical explanation for my in laws irrational, bizarre behavior. The mother seems to suffer from moderate dementia, and shows traits of borderline personality disorder. The father shows signs of Borderline Personality Disorder, and severe depression. I feel that all members of the direct biologics have been affected with BPD(borderline personality disorder), 3 siblings have known addiction problems, all siblings show unstable emotional behavior, fear of abandonment, poor judgement, and lack of planning and organization. Problems seem to persist in this family due to lack of confrontation, their method of dealing with issues is simply to avoid them. I am concerned about the well being of my child, and my fiance's son while in the supervision of these people. How can i get some closure on this issue and not overly offend anyone? Dementia - Symptoms Having difficulty recalling recent events. Not recognizing familiar people and places. Having trouble finding the right words to express thoughts or name objects. Having difficulty performing calculations. Having problems planning and carrying out tasks, such as balancing a checkbook, following a recipe, or writing a letter. Having trouble exercising judgment, such as knowing what to do in an emergency. Having difficulty controlling moods or behaviors. Depression is common, and agitation or aggression may occur. Not keeping up personal care such as grooming or bathing. Some types of dementia cause key symptoms: People who have dementia with Lewy bodies often have highly detailed visual hallucinations. They may fall frequently. The first symptoms of frontotemporal dementia may be personality changes or unusual behavior. People with this condition may not express any caring for others, or they may say rude things, expose themselves, or make sexually explicit comments. Symptoms of dementia that come on suddenly suggest vascular dementia or possibly delirium-short-term confusion caused by a new or worsening illness. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------BORDERLINE PERSONALITY DISORDER Borderline Personality Disorder - Symptoms A person with borderline personality disorder often has unstable relationships, low self-esteem, and problems with impulsive behavior, all of which begin by early adulthood. A common feature of this disorder is fear of being left alone (abandoned), even if the threat of being abandoned is not real. This fear may lead to frantic attempts to hold on to those around you and may cause you to become too dependent on others. Sometimes you may react to the fear of being abandoned by rejecting others first before they can reject you. This erratic behavior can lead to troubled relationships in every area of your life. People who are diagnosed with borderline personality disorder have at least five of the following symptoms. They may:1 Make frantic efforts to avoid real or imagined abandonment. Have a pattern of difficult relationships caused by alternating between extremes of intense admiration and hatred of others. Have an unstable self-image or be unsure of his or her own identity. Act impulsively in ways that are self-damaging, such as extravagant spending, frequent and unprotected sex with many partners, substance abuse, binge eating, or reckless driving. Have recurring suicidal thoughts, make repeated suicide attempts, or cause self-injury through mutilation, such as cutting or burning himself or herself. Have frequent emotional overreactions or intense mood swings, including feeling depressed, irritable, or anxious. These mood swings usually only last a few hours at a time. In rare cases, they may last a day or two. Have long-term feelings of emptiness. Have inappropriate, fierce anger or problems controlling anger. The person may often display temper tantrums or get into physical fights. Have temporary episodes of feeling suspicious of others without reason (paranoia) or losing a sense of reality. Not everyone who has five or more of these symptoms is diagnosed with borderline personality disorder. For a person to be diagnosed with any personality disorder, the symptoms must be severe and must go on long enough to cause significant emotional distress or problems functioning in relationships or at work.1 You may have temporary episodes of psychosis (paranoia and a loss of a sense of reality) with borderline personality disorder, especially when you are going through a personal crisis. This psychosis usually does not last very long. But if it continues, your doctor may consider another condition, such as schizophrenia. Symptoms of borderline personality disorder are not caused by another medical condition or by medicines. And they are not a result of long-term substance abuse problems. Borderline personality disorder may be confused with other conditions with similar symptoms, such as other per i am not diagnosing anyone, i just saw the relativity in the behavior i have been exposed to with the symptoms of both disorders. Her mom is from the phillipines and completed 2 years of elementary school. Her dad was an alcoholic who was extremely overweight who is now bizarrely skinny and obsesses on running and not eating. The mother comes by without calling, tried to go thru my stuff in my bedroom, walks out the door with my kid saying ill keep her tonight, wich results as me running outside to stop her and say no! she constantly calls my house, (20 + times a day) to make sure that we are ok.. and that the kids are "warm" and to make sure that our children are wrapped up??? i have never witnessed such bizarre behavior in my life, that is details for you.. find the relevance in the symptoms i listed and tell me if its just a coincidence
I have no health insurance but need medical advice? I have no health insurance, so seeing a doctor in the near future is not something likely for me. However I have been having symptoms that are scaring me and seem to be getting worse. I am a musician and a singer (not professionally) and this scares me because I'm afraid it will effect my hobby. I am healthy, 20 years old, and do no drugs, do not smoke, or drink alcohol. My symptoms include: *Fatigue *Loss of strength *Slurring Words *Writing/ saying words/numbers backwards or in the wrong order *Frequently saying the wrong word, while using a work that "relates" somehow in my mind (i.e. calling an orange (fruit) a "green" - green is opposite orange on color wheel) *Poor grip in right hand *Loss of dexterity in left hand (while playing music) What could be causing this? It is get progressively worse and I want to know if anyone thinks its a serious condition or something that will go away. Thank you.
Why do people keep asking if "you can be pregnant & have a period"???? NO!!! You DO NOT get "Your Period" while pregnant!!!! You do not have 2 uterus's. People bleed during pregnancy for alot of different reasons: implantation, miscarraige, of for no reason at all. IF you are pregnant , the lining of your uterus WILL NOT shed!!! Here is something I found on a MEDICAL SITE............... **The medical term used to describe "absence of periods" is amenorrhea. Women do not menstruate before puberty, during pregnancy, and after menopause. If a woman does not get her period when she normally should, it may be the symptom of a treatable medical condition. Common causes of secondary amenorrhea (when a woman who has had normal periods stops getting them) include: *Pregnancy *Breast feeding *Stopping the use of birth control *Menopause *Some birth control methods, such as Depo-Provera SO......... Why are people saying you CAN have a "period" when it IS NOT possible??????? Well gues what ZeeLee.... I HAVE BEEN IN THESE WOMENS SHOES!!!! I BLED FOR THE FIRST 4 MONTHS WITH MY DAUGHTER!!! SO WHO NEEDS TO GET OVER THEMSELVES!!!!!!!!!!!!! I ALSO DIDN'T SAY I NEW EVERYTHING BUT I SURE THE HELL KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT IN HERE....EXPECALLY WHEN I HAVE RECENLT ASKED MY DOCTOR THIS QUESTION PLUS FOUND INFO ON MEDICAL SITES!!!!

..............................? A knockout from a harsh blow can cause some very severe brain injuries and in some instances have lead to death and permanent head and brain damage. A Concussion which in Latin, means “to shake violently” is the most common type of traumatic brain injury. The term concussion can also be referred to as mild brain injury, mild traumatic brain injury (MTBI), mild head injury (MHI), and minor head trauma. The word concussion is used most likely in sports medicine and is frequently defined as a head injury with a transient loss of brain function, concussion can cause a variety of physical, cognitive, and emotional symptoms. Concussions can, broadly speaking, be broken into two major groupings; those of low severity, and those of high severity. Low severity concussions often get the media spotlight, being highlighted in sporting events and mass media. However, though not as glamorous, there are also concussions that end with the sufferer in hospital. Concussions are usually assigned to different levels of severity based on symptoms of the injured. Concussions of high severity can usually be treated in hospitals and usually involves administration of inflammation reducing drugs to reduce the risk of brain tissue damage. Treatment of low severity concussion involves monitoring and rest. Symptoms usually go away entirely within three weeks, though they may persist, or complications may occur Repeated concussions can cause cumulative brain damage called dementia pugilistica or severe complications such as second-impact syndrome. It is very uncertain on the amount of people who get concussions every year is unknown, however it is very possible that 6 out of every 1000 people will get at least one concussion in their life. Common causes include sports injuries, bicycle accidents, car accidents, and falls; the latter two are the most frequent causes among adults. Concussion may be caused by a blow to the head, or by acceleration forces without a direct impact. The forces involved disrupt cellular processes in the brain for days or weeks. It is not known whether the concussed brain is structurally damaged the way it is in other types of brain injury (albeit to a lesser extent) or whether concussion mainly entails a loss of function with physiological but not structural changes. Cellular damage has reportedly been found in concussed brains, but it may have been due to artifacts from the studies. A debate about whether structural damage exists in concussion has raged for centuries and is ongoing.MTBI has a mortality rate of almost zero. The symptoms of most concussions resolve within weeks, but problems may persist. It is not common for problems to be permanent, and outcome is usually excellent. People over age 55 may take longer to heal from MTBI or may heal incompletely. Similarly, factors such as a previous head injury or a coexisting medical condition have been found to predict longer-lasting post-concussion symptoms. Other factors that may lengthen recovery time after MTBI include psychological problems such as substance abuse or clinical depression, poor health before the injury or additional injuries sustained during it, and life stress. Longer periods of amnesia or loss of consciousness immediately after the injury may indicate longer recovery times from residual symptoms. For unknown reasons, having had one concussion significantly increases a person's risk of having another. Having previously sustained a sport concussion has been found to be a strong factor increasing the likelihood of a concussion in the future. Other strong factors include participation in a contact sport and body mass size. The prognosis may differ between concussed adults and children; little research has been done on concussion in the pediatric population, but concern exists that severe concussions could interfere with brain development in children.
"nothing serious" thanks for your opinion but this has been going on for the past month i hope its not serious but you can't seriously blame me for doubting

Seek advice before using if you are breast feeding,", "pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or suffer from allergies.", Keep all medicines out of the reach of children., " and to be quite frank as it says use once an hour i've really over done it and probally swallowed loads ? am i at risk of something ? should i stop using it ? or are the warnings just a "guide"? thanks in advance! x
Shortness of Breath? I'm a 23 year old female, no medical issues or conditions in the past, including asthma. I have had shortness of breath for about 3 years now, sporadically. I first noticed it my sophomore year of college, when I was constantly under stress from classes and a job. I went to the doctor shortly after noticing the symptoms, and I was given a chest x-ray and had several other tests run. My doctor told me it was stress-related and basically left it at that. Now that I am out of school, I still sometimes feel like I can't take a deep-enough breath, though I only occassionally feel stressed, and to a much lesser degree. I don't experience chest pain, numbness, or dizzy spells, I just feel like I can't take a deep breath. It doesn't seem any worse or better different times of the year or day, or when I lie down or exercise. Can anyone help me out? Thanks. The shortness of breath occurs regardless of what I'm doing (exercising, talking, watching tv, etc.) I was not exposed to large amounts of second-hand smoke as a child or even now. I am 5'7" and weigh 130 lbs. No anxiety issues that I know of Thanks!
This LEGAL question about letting a patient die without her consent? I just placed an extremely long story_more than a question in itself_in the health section, but it was placed by yahoo in the pregnancy one. I've asked people to search for it there so they can help me. But it seems to me I should also be adding it here int he LEGAL one: An elderly person who suffers from respiratory and heart problems, but who very much wants to live, is not being treated properly by medical staff, including doctors. The story is extremely long but I'll tell it as brief as possible: She's in her early eighties, was misdiagnosed with cancer based simply on one X-ray and fact that she was long time smoker and looked thin and frail. Previously had been told couple years earlier she was suffering from emphysema. But doctors ignored this and went ahead with cancer diagnosis. Was basically sent home to die, without any other tests or further X-rays, etc. Months later while in emergency room_due to lack of proper meds and treatments_doctor going by wrong diagnosis to which I informed him about, went ahead and did complete brain scan and apparently scans of lungs as well. He came back with news of zero cancer in brain, and only scaring in the lungs, which everyone else should have known about by then and which we were told couple of years earlier. Now, and after many doctors repeating that she's at end stage of COPD, and suffering from CHF, attrial fibrillation, high blood pressure, apparent damage to adrenal glands_and who knows if anything else, for they only search for further things once I've either repeatedly asked or given the WHOLE LIST OF SYMPTOMS, whether new or old_she's been sent home once again earlier than she should have, even after having suffered much blood loss couple of hours before discharge from hospital. Doctors main concern is to inform me she's at end stage, that next time they will probably not intubate her, that social workers can send hospice home, and that if family wants her to live like this. I thoroughly explained IT IS NOT ONLY FAMILY who wants her to live IT IS HER as well. She insists on been taken to hospital when she knows her breathing is not right. At this very moment she's at home, having had a really bad night. Once again whole family is guessing as to what it could be. She was shaking for quite some time at midnight. It could well have been the 37 degrees temeperature outside and her insisting on not been covered for she's always hot even when others are freezing. Still I did cover her, gave her the 30mg dialtizem prescribed, plus the 10mg prednisone, plus the pepcid. And I also gave her the tiny dose of Xanax which is the .25 prescribed by physician three days ago. I know for a fact that if she were at hospital they would check out for all symptoms before deciding to give her xanax. I wouldn't have given it to her because her breathing has not been normalized since coming back. They keep sending her home in very poor condition. I could describe in perfect details why I know this is the case. They had also offered to send a nurse and a hospital bed and NOTHING has happened. I know that most people would say "Just suit them!" And the many suits to hospitals, doctors, etc. are very well deserved from what I have experienced in nearly a dozen hospitalizations in these last three years. I do know also that MEDICARE apparently refuses to pay for certain things. I have no idea which. I would very much need LEGAL counsel but cannot afford to spend days on the phone searching for lawyers whom would probably take the case once she IS DEAD. Is there a COURT I can go to to make sure this person is not left to die this way?

diarrhea since 8 months? I have been experiencing diarrhea for several months now. I was treated for Giardia in May of this year. But my diarrhea still persists. I've went to Gastroenterologist and he doesn't know what's going on either. I've done many test including stool test, blood work, colonoscopy, upper gi with small bowel, lactose intolerence, CT scan, and Small Intestine Bacterial overgrowth as well which came out positive. But I was prescribed Xifaxan for that small intestine bacterial overgrowth. He believes im having this diarrhea because I had giardia for so long in my system and that messed up my digestive system. however i don't believe that's the issue anymore because i had that treated couple of months ago. currently, he has me on Questran on daily basis. it stops my diarrhea on the days i take and gives me constipation. but on the days i don't take questran, i get my diarrhea back slowly. the symptoms im facing are loose stool(not watery), its kind of gooey and sticky looking, gas and sometimes bloating. the stools are yellow in color as if they passed my intestine really quickly. I don't know what's causing the symptoms. I know im not allergic to any kind of food. Don't know whats causing my problems. I never had any serious problem as this before. nor i have any previous history of medical conditions.
Which one is right? I went to Chinse Acupuncturist and the doctor gave me Ta Hud Lo Herbal Drop . When I checked online the information include or it exactly said: Indication: Limb numbness due to Wind Evil, apoplexy, rheumatism, poor circulation, back pain, leg pain, stiff limbs, sequelae of stroke (as soon as possible after patient’s medical and neurological conditions are stable, not while bleeding is still occurring in hemorrhage cases), head injury cases. Symptoms may include: facial paralysis, limb paralysis (paralysis may be spastic or flaccid), impaired speech, articulation. Also, facial paralysis due to Bell’s Palsy. It is used for symptoms due to stroke, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease. For the symptom part, does that mean I will have this symptom if I take the medicine? or does it mean that it will treat this symptoms since it is written under the Indication? which one is right?
Is it pleurisy or not? I am sick of second opinions and guessing.? Hi, I am a nineteen year old female in generally good health. I have never had any serious medical conditions. About six weeks ago I took a trip to the emergency room with severe pains in my chest, almost under my breast bone. The doctors took several tests, including blood samples, and an EKG, and an X-ray. They found nothing abnormal, and ruled out that it must be dry pleurisy. They told me to take 800mg ibuprofen for a week. Six weeks later, and I still have these random pangs in my chest. It radiates to my back ,and switches from place to place in my general upper body area. I want to know, could these symptoms be something besides pleurisy? Also, is it normal for pleurisy to last this long? Any answers and I'll take them. Thank you.
Please help, partial paralysis? About a week ago, my pinky toe (I know, lame), was in a great deal of pain. I have had frostbite before (not in my toes, but my fingers) and it almost felt as though it was at the peak of cold-induced pain before the numbness of frostbite took over. This was unexpected as I was inside a heated house under blankets, wearing footwear. I went to sleep and the next morning I couldn't move the three smallest toes on my left foot, questionable pinky toe included. It has been a week now, and although I can still sort of feel my toes, I am unable to move them. My big toe moves slightly, but doesn't have as much of a range of motion as that of my right foot. Does anyone know what this could be, or if it could be some larger medical condition. I have been told that it could be diabetes, but that seems far fetched as I am healthy, active and don't have any other diabetes-like symptoms. Thanks!

He is 13. Just recently about 3 weeks ago he had a lymph node pop up on his neck. it is small-unseen but very had and stationary. I took him to his doctor 3 weeks ago who told me it was nothing. Last weekend he had severe pain in his upper left abdomen region and then had white loose stools. For three years this doctor has been unable to come to a diagnosis. She has referred us to an academic hospital for pediatric rheumatology but always says it is a mystery virus. When I took him in last time for the node she stated that I had to stop taking him in for the sniffles and the nurse acted put out with dealing with us. Just the other day my son was walking across the living room stopped suddenly and gasped. His head flew back and his pupils were huge he became extremely dizzy-laid down screamed of a headache and fell fast asleep. I decided to get another doctor which we go to tomorrow. But requested and received his medical file. His blood test baffled me...anyone have any suggestions. I want to start with this new doctor a little more educated. Want to learn something about recreational drugs? Recreational Drugs Some people take recreational drugs; it seems like a fact of life. Their use has been around since the dawn of man. They were historically taken in a religious setting but now are used for enjoyment, medication, and inspiration. Obviously not using drugs is the healthiest option but I doubt humanity will ever fully discontinue using recreational drugs. Since their use is so common and widespread I thought I might write out some facts about the most popular ones so if you do decide to use any of them you know the effects, risks, etc and can make a more informed decision. Caffeine- Caffeine is a stimulant that effects the cardiovascular and nervous system. It is legal and easy to obtain. It causes increased heart rate, blood flow, metabolic rate, and respiratory rate. It increases alertness, elevates mood, and decreases fatigue. With frequent use the user runs the risk of becoming chemically dependent to caffeine. Withdrawals from caffeine can cause difficulty concentrating, nausea, anxiety, and insomnia. It is possible in extreme amounts to overdose on caffeine and permanently damage the cardiovascular system and possibly result in death. Tobacco (Nicotine)- Nicotine is a stimulant that effects the cardiovascular and nervous system. It is legal and easy to obtain. Using nicotine causes increased alertness followed by a sense of relaxation; it also reduces appetite. With frequent use the user runs the risk of becoming chemically dependent on nicotine. Nicotine withdrawals can range from insomnia, weight gain, constipation, anxiety, restlessness, and difficulty concentrating. In extreme dosages nicotine use can result in overdose (usually with patches). Using tobacco products has been shown to cause various kinds of cancer depending on the method of use. Mouth, lung, throat, bladder, larynx, kidney, stomach, etc. Alcohol (Ethanol)-Ethanol is the depressant found in alcohol, it effects the nervous system and thins the blood. It is legal and easy to obtain. Using ethanol causes euphoria, reduction of inhibitions, and gradual decrease of motor skills depending on dosage and tolerance. Frequent ethanol use can result in chemical dependence and in higher dosage overdose. Ethanol withdrawals can be very severe and range from depression, nausea, headaches, shakes, and cold sweat. If you are chemically dependent on ethanol you should consult a doctor, as Detox can be fatal if not done properly. Ethanol has also been shown to cause various cancers such as, mouth, throat, liver, larynx, etc. It also has been shown to cause serosis and damage various organs in your body (esp. liver) Strong Psychedelic Drugs (LSD, Psyliocybin, Peyote, Salvia Dinorum)- They are hallucinogenic drugs that effect your nervous system and chemicals in the brain. Using these drugs cause changes in mood, distortion of reality, dissociation, synathesisa, and hallucinations with all senses. You cannot become chemically dependent to any of these drugs but you can become psychologically dependent to them. This means that you feel a psychological need to use the drug but you will not suffer any chemical withdrawals if you discontinue use. These drugs effect how you think and perceive the world in a very powerful way. The quality of your experience depends on your mood before use, the location you take them in, and the people you are around. Based on these conditions you may have a positive, life changing experience or a negative, horrifying experience. Because of this risk it is recommended you have an experienced sitter who is there to watch over you and console you. The sitter is also there to make sure you don’t do anything dangerous or stupid while you are hallucinating. If you have previous mental issues these drugs may make them worse. They effect how you think and may cause you to bring up old issues and cause mental distress or even a mental breakdown. Hard illegal Drugs (Meth, Cocaine)- These drugs are considered hard because like alcohol they have a high rate of chemical dependency and severe withdrawal symptoms. They are also highly illegal. When used they cause euphoria, altered mood, increased alertness, insomnia. They have a high risk of chemical dependence and their withdrawal can be fatal. They are similar to other stimulant withdrawals but more severe. If you have a chemical dependency to these drugs then you should consult a doctor since the withdrawal can result in death. Smart drugs, Pharms (Rx drugs)- Prescription drugs are relatively easy to get and are legally distributed by the medical companies. Their use causes a wide range of symptoms including, altered mood, relaxation, increased alertness, sedation, reduced inhibition, among others. Rx drugs use in higher frequency can result in chemical dependence and in higher dosage can result in overdose. Rx withdrawals can be very severe and you should consult a doctor when discontinuing their use because the withdrawals can be fatal. T Cannabis is weed.. Psilocybin is the active ingredient in shrooms... obviously you need to learn a few things yahoo answers cut out the cannabis section(not enough room) sorry! Cannabis (THC)-THC is a mild psychoactive drug that effects the nervous system found in the buds of the cannabis plant. It is illegal but fairly easy to obtain. Its effects are highly varied depending on (location, mood, etc see strong psychoactive drugs) however the most common are, increased sensory experience, altered sense of time, increased appetite, change in thought process, euphoria, relaxation. The over load of sensory experience can cause short-term memory loss for the duration of the high. You cannot become chemically dependent on THC but you can become psychologically addicted (psychological need to use, no withdrawals when use stops). There has never been an overdose of THC and many believe that although it is theoretically possible in use it is impossible to use that much THC. If you use THC by smoking the buds of the plant the smoke from the burnt plant matter can irritate the lungs. Other methods of THC use such as inhaling THC vapor or digesting activated THC

A personal question !!!? I know that there is a section on this, but i need real answers from peers, not medical personel and students. HPV is the abosolute most common STD. I need to know how common it really is. Symptoms include abnormal paps and sometimes genital warts. If you read this question will u please tell me if u or anyone u know, or how many ppl u know has this condition. If u have any stories or questions, feel free to email me. Nobody knows who ppl are on here. If u do not wish to publically answer my question, again, please feel free to email me. Any information that you would like to give would be incredibley helpful. Thankyou. Ok ppl just to clarify.....I am a medical student. You are right HPV is a virus, but is also THE MOST COMMON STD, b/c it mainly is transmitted sexually. I am needing personal experiances, not research material. I know what HPV is and just to educate some of u, just b/c there are no visable signs, doesnt mean that u dont have it. With a severe lack of medical knowledge and primitive remedies to illnesses it was quite easy for a now- common ailment or affliction to quickly turn severely life threatening. Two of the leading causes of disease in the middle ages were poor hygiene and very close living arrangements. Because people lived in such close proximity to one another, airborne and contagious diseases spread like wildfire and quickly passed from one person to the next. During this time hygiene was not much of a concern and cleanliness was not practiced very thoroughly at all. Because of this fact, it was very easy for even the smallest cut or wound to become dangerously infected in no time at all. Proper care of wounds and cuts were not used and wounds were not properly disinfected, cleaned or covered. Infections were unavoidable and quite perilous. Another cause of disease during the medieval time period was poor diet and insufficient nutrition. Most medieval diets were lacking vital nutrients and minerals that were very important for warding off sickness and disease. Eating the right amount of vitamins and healthy foods would have prevented a vast amount of illnesses during this period. Rough clothing caused skin conditions and rashes. Without adequately warm homes or insulation, pneumonia was quite common and could cause death. Mental Illness was a very large problem in the middle ages and was very rarely properly treated. People with these types of diseases were often ridiculed and treated inhumanely because their illness was widely misunderstood and socially un-accepted. The disease with the highest death toll in the middle ages was The Black Plague. It was also known as The Black Death or The Bubonic Plague. Symptoms included fever, headache, nausea, vomiting and swollen lymph nodes. This was spread quickly by way of rats, fleas and close contact with those affected. Victims of this disease were usually dead within a week of being infected and about 85% did not survive. Treatment of ailments were often very dangerous and weren't even guaranteed to work. In fact, it was more likely for the patient's condition to worsen and for him to become even more sick after seeing the doctor because of such unethical and unsanitary conditions the doctors practiced under. Tools used for surgery were rarely cleaned and disinfectant was not a part of procedure. Anesthetics were also not invented by the middle ages so patients had to endure these surgeries without any type of pain killer or anesthesia. One common procedure used to cure a wide variety of ailments was called Blood Letting. Doctors believed certain body parts controlled or caused certain sicknesses and were linked to other organs. Physicians thought that draining the "bad blood" from a certain area it would in turn release the toxins in the organ that corresponded with it. This could be done by the doctor by simply cutting a vein or with the use of medical leeches. Patients often bled to death or developed a serious infection or
Strong abdominal pain (Upper Right Quadrant)? I am a 20 year old male. I am 6'0" and weigh 154. Since around Christmas of last year I have been constantly experiencing pretty strong pains in the upper right quadrant of my abdomen, which get extremely severe at times. A few of the attacks have been so severe I have collapsed and have been transported by EC unit to the ER, requiring opiates to ease them. Along with the attacks come severe nausea, vomiting and shortness of breath. During some attacks, the pain radiates into my right shoulder. The worst attacks seem to occur after eating a particularly greasy meal, and where I'm from, if it's edible, it's usually full of some kind of grease. Gravy seems to be the worse culprit of all. I have modified my diet to include less grease and fat, however, the pain persists. I have saw a GI specialist, had more CT's with and without contrast than I can count, 3 ultrasounds, x-rays, blood work, etc. Each time, I am disappointed to discover nobody has a clear diagnosis. Between myself and my co-workers (I am an EMT), we suspect it's my gallbladder. However, my doctor maintains that it would have shown up by now and he has put me on medicines used for ulcers, abdominal and intestinal distention, and many other medical conditions with absolutely no success. I am starting to get really discouraged and somewhat depressed that nobody can find what's wrong. Am I going crazy or is there something I could be overlooking? Any ideas of what I could do to be rid of this problem for good? Medical co-pays and sick days are difficult to come by when trying to start a family, pay off a house and car, and keep food on the table, so continual visits to the doctor aren't really an option which really makes things difficult. Side note: I recently learned my mother had the same problem develop when she was pregnant with me. She suffered for close to two years before doctors decided to to remove her gallbladder, and has not had a symptom since.
Pot Question. This really concerned me, help is it true.? Well I smoke alot of pot then i read the following article and now I'm a little concerned. I have never gotten sick or anything before but now a days anything kills you. So no stupid answers. thanks. "0326-marijuana-health_final-vg.jpg Know someone who smokes pot? Researchers and doctors are putting pieces of the puzzle together, linking consistent marijuana use with a frightening health condition... **** According to research published in the March issue of the World Journal of Gastroenterology, heavy marijuana users are at risk for a severe vomiting syndrome called "cannabinoid hyperemesis." Health experts at University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, say that frequent and heavy pot use could lead to this unusual illness that is becoming more common. Symptom include severe vomiting (as in 2-3 hours of it per day, especially after eating), stomach cramps, nausea, etc. Send this to your weed-smoking friend from college (or your teenage brother)--right now. P.S. Weird but true: Researchers are seeing promising signs that marijuana (extracts, not smoke) could help fight the superbug. help please? i need 3 people to give me there opionion on this article this ian assignment and my test wants to get three opionions from 3 people plus the on i am going to write What Is Scoliosis? Scoliosis is a term doctors use to describe a lateral curve of the spine. Depending on the etiology (cause) of the scoliosis, there may be one or more curves involved. Types of Scoliosis There are two types of scoliosis: structural and functional. A structural scoliosis can be caused by disease, bony or muscular deformities, congenital deformities (those that are present at birth) or improper healing from injury or surgery. A functional scoliosis can occur as a result of injury, muscle spasm, spinal mal-alignment, or the body trying to compensate for spinal problems, such as a herniated disc. Individuals with these conditions tend to "create" a scoliosis as they are leaning to one side trying to find a position in which to relieve their pain. The curvature of a scoliosis can be mobile, or in more serious cases, can be fixed (unable to move). Cases of immobility are typically the result of injury or a disease, such as polio, that can result in multiple spinal bones fusing together. The most common type of scoliosis is idiopathic scoliosis. This is what doctors look for when they perform spinal screenings on school-age children. The term idiopathic means "of unknown cause." It begins as a functional scoliosis, but can become structural over time if it is not managed by a health care professional such as an orthopedist or a chiropractor. It is very important to catch scoliosis in childhood before it progresses as it can significantly worsen as the spine develops and the child grows. More About Idiopathic Scoliosis Between 60 and 80 percent of cases of idiopathic scoliosis occur in school-age girls, and are usually detected between the ages of 9 and 14. The condition may first be suspected when one shoulder appears higher than the other, when clothes do not hang straight, or when one hip seems more prominent. An initial complaint may be fatigue in the low or mid back after prolonged standing or sitting. Note that pain is a manifestation as time passes, as the ligaments of the spine endure prolonged strain. Of the 4 percent of children with detectable scoliosis, half will require treatment or continuing medical observation; the other half can be screened in school and simply monitored for significant progression. What Is the Outcome? The outcome depends on the site and severity of the curve and the age of onset of symptoms. Complications are related to the type of curve present. The greater the curve, the greater the likelihood of progression after skeletal maturity. A prompt referral to a chiropractor or an orthopedist is recommended in order to institute treatment to correct the deformity or to prevent further deformity. What Is the Treatment for Scoliosis? Chiropractic treatment for scoliosis utilizes specific adjustments to the involved areas of the spine. This is combined with therapies such as electrical muscle stimulation, ultrasound, or intersegmental traction, and postural exercise. The progression of the curve in the spine is monitored very closely to determine if more aggressive treatments are deemed necessary. Chiropractic treatments are designed to focus on the correction of the scoliosis and the prevention of complications. A large percentage of scoliosis patients find relief and correction for their scoliosis deformity through chiropractic care. If scoliosis is progressing rapidly or is severe, an immediate consultation with an orthopedist is necessary. The orthopedic specialist will review the condition to determine what treatment should be rendered. Treatment may include a brace fitted to the spine (called a Milwaukee brace), electrospinal stimulation, or spinal surgery. Being diagnosed with scoliosis, wearing a brace or cast, being hospitalized, or having surgery can greatly challenge a youngster's independence or self-image. The alternative, however, is living with a significant deformity. Counseling and support should also be major components in caring for children and teenagers with scoliosis. Treatment for Adults Treatment for scoliosis in adults is also relative to the type, cause, and severity of the condition. The effects from neglecting care can include spinal degeneration, nerve impingement, disc problems, and spinal fusion. Keep in mind that if a scoliosis condition goes uncorrected from childhood into adulthood, the chances for correction in adulthood are slim. Once into adulthood, the progression of the condition may be slowed or halted, and pain relief may be achieved; however, the condition is not completely correctable at this point. If the scoliosis is caused by muscle spasm or spinal bone misalignment, the scoliosis is very correctable. The treatment of scoliosis is completely dependent upon the cause. Early detection and prevention are the best possible treatments for scoliosis. Make sure your children are participating in spinal screenings performed at school. If spinal screenings are not performed at your child's school, call your health care provider or local doctor of chiropractic. A screening only takes a few minutes but can prevent years of pain.

CHINESE HERBS- NATURE’S BLESSINGS FOR AILING SOULS Among the family of herbal Medicines the treatment that has inspired the human souls and has intricately woven into the social fabric of many generations globally are nonetheless Chinese Medicinal herbs. These herbs have not only benefited the ailing human beings but also have been the source of Information and studies for the people of scientific world of today. These Chinese Medicinal herbs found its birth last 3000 years back among the Zhou Dynasty. The recurrent troubles prevailing in the socio economic condition of the people led to their belief that sickness was due to the malevolent action of demonic forces. Incipient herbal medicine was employed to extirpate these unwanted intruders laying foundation of today’s Chinese healing herbs. According to Chinese legend, Chinese father of agriculture and leader of an ancient clan, Shen Nung, tested one by one hundreds of different plants to discover their nutritional and medicinal properties and then on this tradition continued. CHINESE HERBS There are over 3000 different Chinese healing herbs that can be used for medical purposes. Only 300 to 500 of these herbs are commonly used. BENEFITS OF CHINESE HERBAL MEDICINES Chinese healing herbs performs three main functions: •To treat the immediate problem, such as killing bacteria or a virus, •To strengthen the body, helping it to recover, and •To maintain health. DISEASES CHINESE HERBS CURE Chinese healing herbs are commonly used to treat disorders such as: •Digestive problems •Eczema and psoriasis •Fatigue •Gynaecological disorders •Hepatic (liver) disorders •Cardiovascular disorders •Stress There are different herbs for different types of diseases like: •Diabetes Chinese herbs •Chinese herbs for scabies •Chinese herbs for endometrosis As Diabetes has been most common ailment so there are different herbs for Diabetes patients like Diabetic neuropathy among others. Specially for Gynecological disorders there are Chinese herbs for fertility and Chinese herbs for infertility CATEGORIZATION OF MEDICINAL HERBS Chinese Medicinal herbs are categorized in following ways: •Property: Every herb is said to have the property of being either cool, cold, warm, or hot. Cool and cold herbs treat “hot” symptoms, such as fever, thirst, sore throat or constipation. Warm and hot herbs treat “cold” symptoms, such as cold hands and feet. •Flavor: There are seven flavors of herbs; pungent, sweet, sour, astringent, bitter, salty, and neutral. •Channels: Channels (or meridians) run throughout the body, affecting different organs. Each kind of herb affects a particular channel and organ. •Actions: Herbs perform different actions in the body. These are known as lifting, floating, lowering, and sinking. MECHANISM OF CHINESE HERBAL MEDICINE IN BODY Chinese treatment is a part of larger healing system called as “Traditional Chinese Medicine” (TCM), which includes among others acupuncture, massage dietary advice and exercise. For maintaining good health we must strive to attain a harmonious balanced relationship between the different systems inside our body, and between nature and our body and when this balance is disturbed we suffer from various diseases. These traditional Chinese Medicine balances our body system with the help of the prescribed Chinese healing herbs. The principle theory includes Yin and Yang, Qi, Blood and Body Fluid theory and Channels and Collaterals theory. YIN AND YANG The ancient Chinese proposed that all living things are sustained by balance of two opposing forces of energy, called Yin and Yang. Together, they make up the life essence, or Qi - a type of energy that flows through the body via invisible channels called meridians. Half of organs and meridians are governed by Yin and the other half are governed by Yang. When Yin and Yang are out of balance in the body, this causes a blockage of Qi and a subsequent illness. Yin and Yang imbalances can be caused by stress, pollution, poor diet, emotional upsets or infection. For diagnostic purposes, Yin and Yang are further subdivided into interior and exterior, hot and cold, deficiency and excess. PHILOSOPHY BEHIND CHINESE HERBAL TREATMENT This treatment depends on the philosophy that we live between heaven and earth and we are miniature universe in ourselves and we have five organs like •Heart" or "mind" (hsin); •2."lungs" or "respiratory system" (fei); •3."liver" (kan); •4."spleen" (p'i); •5."kidneys" (shen) These are called as Latent Phenomena Exessive Wind (feng), cold (han), heat (shu), moisture (shih), dryness (tsao), and internal heat (huo "fire") harms the body, and are referred to as the "six external disease-causing factors" (liu yin). On the other hand, if mood changes within the individual, such as happiness(hsi), anger(nu), worry(yu), pensiveness(szu), grief(pei), fear(k'ung), and surprise(ching) are too extreme, they will also harm the health. These emotions are called the "seven emotions"(ch'i ch'ing). In Chinese Herbal treatment, the six external disease-causing factors, interacting with the seven emotions, form the theoretical foundation of disease pathology. These theoretical models, coupled with the "theory of latent phenomena," are used to analyze the patient's constitution and his illness, and diagnose the exact nature of his overall physical and psychological loss of balance. Based on this analysis, the doctor prescribes method to correct the imbalance. HOW THE HERBAL MEDICINES ARE PRESCRIBED The TCM philosophy proposes that everything including organs of the body - is composed of the five elements: fire, earth, metal, water and wood. The herbs are similarly classified into the five tastes - sweet, salty, bitter, pungent and sour - which correspond to the five elements, for example, since the skin is a metal element Yang organ, it would be treated with a pungent herb Each herbal medicine prescription is a mixture of many herbs tailored to the individual patient. One batch of herbs is typically decocted twice over the course of one hour. The practitioner usually designs a remedy using one or two main ingredients that target the illness. Then the practitioner adds many other ingredients to adjust the formula to the patient's Yin Yang conditions. Sometimes, ingredients are needed to cancel out side effects of the main ingredients. Some herbs require the use of other ingredients as catalyst or else the brew remains ineffective. HOW THE PROBLEM IS DIAGNOSED Diagnosis is by visual assessment, listening and smelling, questioning, and palpation; a single biomedical disease may be associated with a large number of TCM diagnoses, while one TCM diagnosis may encompass a number of biomedical diseases. Once a diagnosis is established, therapy aims at restoring the body's homeostasis by treating the root cause of the disease. CHINESE HEALING HERBS Chinese healing herbs are mainly plant based, but some preparations include minerals or animal products. They can be packaged as powders, pastes, lotions or tablets, depending on the herb and its intended use. Different herbs have different properties and can balance particular parts of the body. Prescribing a particular herb or concoction of herbs means the practitioner’s diagnosis has to take into account the state of the patient’s Yin and Yang, and the elements that are governing the affected organs. SCIENCE VS HERBAL MEDICINE Dr. David Nye pointed out some interesting facts in discussing scientific vs. Chinese Herbal Medicine. He said that scientific medicine is a body of knowledge about the human body, its maladies, and their treatment acquired by the application of scientific methods of study. These methods were developed for science in general and medicine in particular. For Alternate Medicine like Chinese Herbal Medicine, he explains alternative medicine as a name has been given to several schools of folk (non-scientific) medicine whose treatments are typically derived from tradition rather than from scientific study. Ideas often come from a single founder and are then passed along generation next with little change as in the case of chiropractic or homeopathy. New form of treatments may be added but the core theories are not challenged. Alternative medical treatments are often promoted through the use of anecdotal evidence and testimonials. STEPS TO CONSIDER BEFORE GOING FOR CHINESE HERBAL TREATMENT Chinese healing Herbs can act on the body as powerfully as pharmaceutical drugs and should be treated with the same caution and respect. Some herbs can be toxic in high doses; others can cause allergic reactions, many can also suffer from liver dysfunction. Make sure your practitioner is fully qualified. Never abandon your regular medication or alter the dose without the knowledge and approval of your Doctor. Because of the variety of herbs used in Chinese herbal medicine, there is a potential for negative interactions with prescribed drugs. Some herbal preparations contain other ingredients which are not always identified. The FDA has issued a statement warning diabetics to avoid several specific brands of Chinese herbal products because they illegally contain the prescription diabetes drugs glyburide and phenformin. FDA warnings have been issued for PC-SPES and production of that product stopped because the Chinese herbal products also contained prescription drugs (indomethicin, diethylstilbestrol and warfarin). China had no doubt remained one of the leading Civilizations since centuries in arts, social, culture, Economy but the gift of unique herbs that it gave to human beings is cherished, was cherished and will always be cherished by generations ahead. Though modern medicines has took its roots among the people but Chinese Medicinal Herbs has undoubtedly taken its own place into the hearts of millions due to its magical powers of healing. These are the points that I have covered in the Write-up •How does Chinese medicine differ from the scientific herbs? •How do Chinese herbs work? (can describe it in steps) oassesses the balance between yin and yang aspects of body functions ocorrespondence of the ailment to the five phase elemental system of living energy oetc •Health benefits of Chinese herbs •Are several herbs combined in Chinese herbal formula? (explain in brief) •Dangers in using Chinese herbs (e.g. affect liver function) Diagnostic examination before administering Chinese herbs (e.g. visual exam, listening and smelling etc)
17 yr female...sick since August. Help? :(? Hey, hope you guys can help me.? Please help me out if you can. :) I'm a 17 year-old-girl, & was always healthy with no serious medical problems. I'm 5'2, 116 pounds. I don't smoke, drink, or do drugs. I've lived a normal life (more or less, lol), but I suffer from depression & stuff... :( But for whatever reason, I started getting REALLY REALLY sick near the end of August 2008, & I've been "sick" ever since then. And it's January now!! I have these horrible symptoms that won't seem to go away & no one can tell me why. - Constant pounding, hard, heavy heartbeat - Swollen, sore, yucky feeling throat - Weird breathing (I have an odd awareness of my own breath ALOT)... really weird... >< - Weird fluttery, uncomfortable "air" feelings in chest - Stomach pains & feeling like my stomach has acid in it - On & off urinary tract infections I was so sick & scared for months until the docs finally diagnosed me with an H. pylori infection. So I went on a round of 3 antibiotics that I had to take 3 times a day for a month. And the side-effects were not pleasant, lol!! I'm ALOT better than I used to be, but I still have these weird symptoms & it's hard for me to enjoy life now because they make me feel so uncomfortable. I cry everyday because of this. The docs say it's anxiety, and maybe it is. But that doesn't change what I'm feeling. I've had many tests done, including: - Several blood & urine tests - 3 Ultrasounds of my heart - 24 Holtor monitor - Stress test - Physicals - Endoscopy I'm going with my Dad over to the clinic tomorrow to talk with a doctor. I'm going to get a PAP Smear/pelvic exam I think & I got to find out my biopsy results (which I'm sure is fine because I think they would've called us if they found something serious). The cardiologist said I could live to 100 with the condition that my heart is in. He said I just need to train my heart & work it out a bit more. All the doctors say I'm a perfectly healthy normal girl. I'm attractive, healthy, & fit. I live in Germany, & I went with my parents to Amsterdam & before we left, we ate at some Chinese resteraunt... I had seafood. On the bus ride home I started feeling sick..Coincidence maybe?? I'm super glad they haven't found anything for me to worry about, but I STILL have these symptoms & they're just awful. But my heart pounds even when I just go up/down a flight of stairs, lol!! I wish they would just go away. I want my normal life back. Any help and/or advice on what I should do? Thanks for taking to the time to read this... Oooh, yeah... HAPPY NEW YEAR !!! :) P.S. I've also been getting more sick lately...cold & flu symptoms. Probably from all the cold weather. And I take Zoloft for depression...just thought I'd mention it, hehee. NO, I'm not crazy, lol. :) Just kinda uptight & worried... xD

What do you think of this article?? truth or fiction...? FACTORY FARMED CHICKEN Almost all chicken meat in the United States is produced through the "factory farming" system, in which animals are closely crowded together in filthy, disease-ridden conditions. Because of these unhealthy conditions, many chickens die even before they get to the slaughterhouse. For example, in an operation with 100,000 broiler chickens, approximately 250 birds die per day. Before being caught for the trip to the slaughterhouse, food and water are withdrawn; at the slaughterhouse, birds wait in trucks another 1 to 9 hours to be killed, sometimes in very hot or very cold weather. Chicken is far worse than beef in terms of contamination and bacteria. The Atlanta Constitution reported in 1991: "Every week throughout the South, millions of chickens leaking yellow pus, stained by green feces, contaminated by harmful bacteria, or marred by lung and heart infections, cancerous tumors or skin conditions are shipped to consumers." Salmonella is present in over one-third of all chickens, and many millions of Americans are infected each year. The symptoms of salmonella poisoning are very similar to the flu (though only occasionally fatal), and thus many who are infected may never even be aware of what they have. To prevent these problems, chickens are usually heavily dosed with antibiotics (more than half of all antibiotic use in the U. S. is on factory farms!), but this indiscriminate use of antibiotics in turn helps create resistant strains of salmonella and other disease-causing germs, decreasing the effectiveness of antibiotics to fight human infections. HEART DISEASE, CANCER, AND MEDICAL COSTS And even if bacterial contamination were eliminated, we still have the tremendous problems of heart disease and cancer, the leading causes of death in the United States. Repeated efforts to lower cholesterol levels through switching from beef to chicken have ended in failure. Chicken is somewhat lower in fat than beef, but it still contains quite a bit of fat and even more cholesterol per calorie than does beef or pork. Moreover, meat which is lower in fat is always higher in protein, and excess protein is damaging to health just as is excess fat. Chicken which has 29% of its calories as fat contains 71% of its calories as protein, while ground beef which has 49% of calories of fat has 51% of its calories as protein. In terms of excess protein consumption chicken is worse than beef or pork. Problems caused by or related to excess protein consumption include kidney stones, kidney disease, osteoporosis, bladder cancer, and lymphoma. Chicken meat also completely lacks fiber; lack of fiber is linked to a variety of digestive disorders ranging from constipation to colon cancer. The three basic problems with our American-style diet—too much fat, too much protein, and lack of fiber—are thus all made worse by chicken consumption. Those who switch from beef to chicken are at best trading one set of health hazards for a different set. Chicken has done little for the nation's health. In the past twenty-five years, we have seen a huge increase in poultry consumption; but health care expenditures during the same period showed phenomenal growth, now costing us hundreds of billions of dollars each year in the United States. The "switch" from beef to chicken has evidently had little, if any, effect on rising medical costs. ENVIRONMENTAL RISKS Raising chickens affects the environment as well. Feeding grain to chicken may be somewhat less inefficient than feeding grain to cattle, but it is still wasteful—you must feed at least three times the amount of protein, calories, and other nutrients to the chickens in the form of plant foods than you retrieve in animal flesh at the end. Each year millions of children die due to malnutrition or starvation, and yet the Western countries continue to waste this grain by creating more and more chicken flesh. Moreover, chicken production results in incredible quantities of manure; a one-million hen complex produces 125 tons of wet manure each day. Animal agriculture in the U. S. produces many times more waste products than humans do. In many areas of the country livestock manure causes dangerous contamination of the drinking water due to nitrates. Even when used as a plant fertilizer, chicken manure can cause difficulties, as in Texas several years ago when cantaloupe fertilized with chicken manure caused sickness in human beings. The fault lay not with the cantaloupe but with the disease-ridden chicken manure. COMPASSION FOR ANIMALS And what about the effect of the "factory farming" system on the animals themselves? Over 7.5 billion birds are killed each year in the United States. We would probably like to believe that these animals at least lived fairly comfortable lives until they were taken to the slaughterhouse, and would also like to believe that chickens are then quickly and painlessly killed. Unfortunately, this is not true. Chickens are crowded together in cramped, windowless sheds, and must breathe concentrated excretory ammonia fumes which damage their eyes and lungs. They are mutilated by "debeaking"—the practice of cutting off most of the chicken's beak when the chicken is young. The reason for "debeaking" is that without it, chickens in their cramped circumstances would peck each other and even attack and kill each other. Obviously, a chicken which needs to be "debeaked" in the first place is not a happy chicken; and the process of debeaking (akin to partial amputation of a human finger, without anesthesia) is quite painful in itself. Birds are deliberately bred to gain more weight than their legs and feet can support, leading to more pain. Turkey production is no better than chicken production. Turkeys, like chickens, are kept in intensely overcrowded quarters; they must be heavily dosed with antibiotics, are subject to many diseases, and have their beaks and their toes partially amputated (without anaesthetic, of course). Turkeys over the years have been bred to be fatter and fatter; today's turkey is so overweight that it cannot mate and must be bred through artificial insemination. "Humanely raised" poultry avoids some of the worst abuses, such as debeaking and overcrowding. But chickens and turkeys are still killed long before their natural lifespan has elapsed, and it still is not a healthful food, as meat from any chicken or turkey—no matter how "humanely" raised—is going to be high in fat or protein (or both), and completely lacking in fiber. Chickens do not die easy deaths, either. The "humane slaughter" laws do not cover chicken or any other poultry. Slaughterhouses are operated as mechanical "disassembly" lines with as little human intervention as possible. Stunning devices are not required by law, and even where used only 1/3 of the chickens are effectively stunned. Some chickens have their throats slit and bleed to death while fully conscious. Millions of unfortunate chickens also escape the automatic knives that slit their throats, and thus go into the next stage—the scalding tank—alive and fully conscious.

Hemorrhoids problem. People who have had hemorrhoids diagnosed and treated answer only please.? I am not entirely sure if I have hemorrhoids as I don't feel any bumps. But the symptoms I am experiencing are: Streaks of bright red blood on the toilet paper I wiped with. Either mucus, water, or blood leaks at random times (unfortunately this includes when I am in public) Extreme irritation, but no itching I'm really reluctant on seeing a doctor for a number of reasons: cost and I heard they have to stick either their fingers (I know they will be wearing lubricated gloves, but still) or a small telescope up my rectum to diagnose hemorrhoids. I've heard you could treat yourself, but only if you aren't bleeding in the rectum. Now the questions: Do I actually have hemorrhoids, or do I have something else? Is my condition so bad that I should start seeking medical attention as soon as I can? What are the consequences if I try to treat it on my own? For those who have gotten it diagnosed and treated, how was the experience like? Painful? Weird? Ah, I've also been experiencing streaks of blood for a month now. But the bit about blood, mucus, and water leaking at random times has only happened recently (For like 1 1/2 weeks now). I have not had diarrhea for quite some time (half a year or so), much less bloody diarrhea (which is a main symptom for ulcerative colitis). As far as the other symptoms go for ulcerative colitis, I have not experience any of them save for rectal bleeding and abdominal pain.
what do u think?? believe it or not? Reading this information & sharing it, might mean saving a life or improving the quality of someone's life, maybe yours. In October of 2001, my sister started getting very sick, she had stomach spasms, she was having a hard time getting around, and to walk was a major chore. It took everything she had just to get out of bed; she was in so much pain. By March 2002, she had undergone biopsies, and was on 24 various prescription medications. The doctors could not figure out what was wrong with her. She was in so much pain, and so sick, she knew she was dying. She put her house, bank accounts, life insurance, etc., in her oldest daughters name, and made sure her younger children were to be with her oldest daughter. She wanted her last hooray, so she planned a trip to Florida (basically in a wheelchair) for March 22nd. On March 19th I called her to ask her how one of her tests went, and she said they didn't find anything on the test, but they believe she had MS. I thought, oh, my.... then I recalled an article a friend of mine emailed to me...and I asked her.... Do you drink Diet pop? She told me yes, as a matter of fact she was getting ready to crack one open that moment. I told her not to open it, and stop drinking the diet pop.... and I emailed her the following article. She called me within 32 hours after our phone conversation and told me she stopped drinking the diet pop, and she can walk. She went up the stairs, and the muscle spasms went away. She said she didn't feel 100% well, but sure felt a lot better. She told me she was going to her doctor with this article and would call me back when she got home. She called me, and her doctor was amazed, he is going to call all of his MS patients to find out if they consumed artificial sweetener! In a nutshell she was being poisoned by the aspartame in the diet soda, dying a slow death! When she got to FL March 22nd, all she had to take was one pill, and that was a pill for poisoning... she is well on her way to recovery... and she is walking!!! No wheelchair!!! This article saved her life!!! The life saving article: If it says "SUGAR FREE," on the label, DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT! Have spent several days lecturing at the WORLD ENVIRONMENTAL CONFERENCE on "ASPARTAME" marketed as 'NutraSweet,' 'Equal,' and 'Spoonful.' In the keynote address by the EPA, it was announced that in the United States in 2001 there is an epidemic of multiple sclerosis and systemic lupus, that it was hard to understand what toxin was causing this to be rampant. I stood up and said that I was there to lecture on exactly that subject. I will explain why Aspartame is so dangerous: When the temperature of this sweetener exceeds 86 degrees F, the wood alcohol in ASPARTAME converts to Formaldehyde, and then to formic acid, which in turn causes metabolic acidosis. (Formic acid is the poison found in the sting of fire ants.) The methane toxicity mimics, among other conditions, multiple sclerosis. People were being diagnosed with having multiple sclerosis in error. The multiple sclerosis is not a death sentence, where methanol toxicity is! Systemic lupus has become almost as rampant as multiple sclerosis; especially with Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi drinkers. The victim usually does not know that the aspartame is the culprit. He or she continues its use, irritating the lupus to such a degree that it may become life threatening. We have seen patients with systemic lupus become symptomatic once taken off diet sodas. In the case of those diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, (when in reality, the disease is methanol toxicity), most of the symptoms disappear. We've seen many cases where vision returned and hearing improved markedly. This also applies to cases of tinnitus . During the lecture I said, "If you are using ASPARTAME (Nutra Sweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc.) And you suffer from fibromyalgia symptoms, spasms, shooting pains, numbness in your legs, cramps, vertigo, dizziness, headaches, tinnitus, joint pain, depression, anxiety attacks, slurred speech, blurred vision, or memory loss.... you probably have ASPARTAME DISEASE!" People were jumping up during the lecture saying, I've got some of these symptoms: Is it reversible? Yes! Not drinking diet sodas and keeping an eye out for aspartame on food labels. Yes! We have a very serious problem. A stranger came up to Dr. Espisto (one of my speakers) and me and said: "Could you tell me why so many people seem to be coming down with MS? During a visit to a hospice, a nurse said that six of her friends, who were heavy Diet Coke addicts, had all been diagnosed with MS. This is beyond coincidence! Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi, etc. are NOT A DIET PRODUCT! The Congressional Record states that it makes you crave carbohydrates and will make you FAT. The formaldehyde stores in the fat cells, particularly if no significant increase in exercise, etc. Aspartame is especially dangerous for diabetics. We found that physicians would believe that they have a patient with retinopathy, when in fact the symptoms are caused by aspartame! The aspartame drives the blood sugar out of control! Thus diabetics may suffer acute memory loss due to the fact that aspartic acid and phenylalanine are neurotoxin without the other amino acids found in protein. Thus it passes the blood brain barrier and deteriorates the neurons of the brain, causing in diabetics (as well as in patients not suffering from diabetes) various kinds of brain damage, seizures, depression, manic seizures, manic depression, panic attacks, rage, and violence. (The Aspartame in thousands of pallets of diet Coke and diet Pepsi, consumed by men and women fighting in the Gulf War may be partially to blame for the well-known Gulf War Syndrome.) Dr. Roberts warns that it can cause birth defects: i.e. mental retardation if taken at the time of conception and early pregnancy. Children are especially at risk for neurological disorders and should NOT be given NutraSweet. I can relate different case histories of children having mal seizures and other disturbances, being on NutraSweet. Unfortunately it is not always easy to convince a mother that aspartame is to blame for her child's illness. Only by trial and success will she be able to warn other mothers to take their children's health into their own hands. Stevia, a sweet herb, NOT A MANUFACTURED ADDITIVE, which helps in the metabolism of sugar (which would be ideal for diabetics) has now been approved as a dietary supplement by the FDA. For years the FDA has outlawed this sweet food because of their loyalty to MONSANTO. Books on this subject are available: EXCITOTOXINS: THE TASTE THAT KILLS written by Dr. Russell Blayblock (Health Press 1-800-643-2665) and DEFENSE AGAINST ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE - written by DR H. J. Roberts, also a diabetic specialist. These two doctors will be posting a position paper with some case histories on the deadly effects of Aspartame on the Internet. According to the Conference of the American College of Physicians "we are talking about a plague of neurological diseases caused by this deadly poison." Here is the problem: There were Congressional Hearings when aspartame was included in 100 different products. Since this initial hearing, there have been two subsequent hearings, but to no avail. Nothing has been done. The drug and chemical lobbies have very deep pockets. Now there are over 5,000 products containing this chemical, and the PATENT HAS EXPIRED!!!!! I assure you, MONSANTO, the creator of Aspartame knows how deadly it is. They fund among others, the American Diabetes Association, the American Dietetic Association, the Conference of the American College of Physicians. This has been exposed in the New York Times - to no avail. These Associations cannot criticize any additives or convey their link to MONSANTO because they take money from the food industry and have to endorse their products. Senator Howard Hetzenbaum wrote a bill that would have warned all infants, pregnant mothers and children of the dangers of aspartame. The bill would have also instituted independent studies on the problems existing in the population (seizures, changes in brain chemistry, changes neurological and behavioral symptoms). It was killed by the powerful drug and chemical lobbies, letting loose the hounds of disease and death on an unsuspecting public! Someone said this, but don’t you think that this is sort of hypocritical?? What do u think, make up your own mind in what you believe or don’t believe, but you should read it and consider it. Urban legend. Do your homework and stop believing the crap you get in e-mails. Source(s): http://www.snopes.com/medical/toxins/asp... LOL i got this in an email, lol i didnt not write this, lol come on, lol if i did write this, i would be spending my time on more important things that the internet and silly questions, lol
Can one proof read this essay? Everyday tons of hazardous electronic waste is dumped in China and other developing countries. These wastes come from various items that we use in our everyday life; some include batteries, kitchen appliances, used computer equipment, and other worn out electronic devices. These items contain chemicals, heavy metals, dangerous pathogens, and other toxins. Many places like the U.S. or the UK have not officially banned exportation of these electronic items, and countries like China still do not enforce their rules of banning e-waste importation. China allows a city like Guiyu to collect, dissemble, and produce toxic e-waste because they are a developing country who needs the money that they receive by taking in this e-waste. Since recent booms in sales of electronic items more of this e-waste is being made, which makes it hard to enforce exportation of it; because of the rate that e-waste is filling into landfills also makes it harder to discard of it. (“Toxic Waste”) In the city of Guiyu an environmental problem has spiraled out of control, citizens are being allowed to dismantle electronic waste (most imported) in their homes and near by workshops. In China recycling e-waste is not taken as a threat to the environment or health and safety regulations. Even though the Chinese law prohibits the importation of e-waste and Beijing is part of the Basle Agreement, (an international treaty that is banning the shipment of e-waste from developed countries to developing countries), they still import e-waste. Only in Guiyu are officials allowing this importation of e-waste, because it provides the cities residents with income; and so far China has not put a stop to it, because they are so hungry for all sorts of metals and the money that they earn for taking the metals and electronic items. (“In The ‘Toxic City of Guiyu, Children Play Among The Waste”) Developed countries like the U.S. (which did not sign the Basle Agreement) could keep their e-waste and properly dispose of it, but the cost of doing so does not outweigh environmental and health problems that are appearing in developing countries like China. (“In The ‘Toxic City of Guiyu, Children Play Among The Waste”) Even though the U.S. has tried to put a stop to the exportation of e-waste, corporate businesses argue to congress that environment and health problems are not a big deal, and the government is being too strict. Plus the government would be taking away from earnings that they receive every year. Communities and environmentalists are still complaining about law enforcement of regulations of hazardous e-waste. (“Toxic Waste”) The impact that e-waste is having on the wellbeing of the people in Guiyu is disastrous, and much of this could be stopped with a few e-waste regulations. “Computer carcasses line the streets, awaiting dismemberment. Circuit boards and hard drives lie in huge mounds. At thousands of workshops, laborers shred and grind plastic casings into particles, snip cables and pry chips from circuit boards. Workers pass the boards through red-hot kilns or acid baths to dissolve lead, silver and other metals from the digital detritus.” (“Chinese City Is World’s Digital Scrap Heap”) In Guiyu, workers are dismembering various electronic items. Most of them are equipped with only small hand tools; which they use to take apart old computers, monitors, printers, DVD players, telephones, MP3 players, and other electronic objects. Several of these items come from brand named companies (like HP, LG, Apple, and Compaq) who say they recycle their products. Workers that are unaware of these toxins tear apart each piece of electronic items to its smallest components, and melt the items in open fires to extract metals. Others take the remaining pieces of scrap metals and dump them in water ways. (“Toxic Tea Party”) All of this e-waste has an effect on the environment in Guiyu. “Water sources are black and pungent and choked with industrial waste, says Kevin Brigden. Brigden (Greenpeace Research Laboratories) tested streams in Guiyu and found out that acid was leaking into them. The streams had soaring levels of toxic heavy metals, which were powerful enough to disintegrate a penny in a few hours.” (Toxic Tea Party”) In Guiyu the price of water is ten times more than in other surrounding places. Water is usually brought to the people of the city by truck, because the streams are so heavily polluted that it turns a dark black color in seconds. (“Toxic Tea Party”) Local bosses pay little regard to workers’ health or regulations that prohibit dumping acid baths into rivers. The e-waste has had a negative effect on the health of the people that live around it. This e-waste can harm humans and animals if they encounter these toxins. Some toxins persist in the environment and accumulate; humans or animals often absorb them. Organizations say that dangerous levels of the metals found in Guiyu have negative effects on children. (“Toxic Waste”) A group found "Over 10 poisonous metals, such as lead, mercury and cadmium, in Guiyu” said Lai Yun, a campaigner. (“Chinese City Is World’s Digital Scrap Heap”) “Professor Hun Xia (Shantou University Medical College) tested 165 children for concentrations of lead in their blood. Eighty two percent of Guiyu children had blood/ lead levels of more than 100. Anything above that figure is considered unsafe by health experts. The average reading for these children was 149” (“Toxic Tea Party”) These high levels of lead in adults and children can lead to lower IQ’s and the development of the central nervous system. It also can cause headaches, nausea, miscarriages, and skin damage. Many of these symptoms that these people are having have not been treated properly, and the peasants do not understand what damage e-waste does to them. Clearly people suffer but that does not mean that they get paid good wages, on average workers earn about 200 to 300 yuan (US$ 24-US$36) per month in Guiyu. (“Toxic Tea Party”) Some 60,000 laborers toil in Guiyu for e-waste recycling, even as the work imperils their health. “About 2.3 million PCs, 2.7 millions computer displays and 1.35 million printers were dumped in 2002.” (“In The ‘Toxic City’ Of Guiyu, Children Play Among The Waste”) Environmentalists say in Guiyu alone, one million tons of e-waste has been treated each year. Despite all the toxins that come from e-waste, its business provides Guiyu’s locals with a more profitable living. Many residents have had better opportunities since they started recycling e-waste. City officials are proud of the e-waste industry but sensitive about its reputation as a dirty business that feeds off smuggled waste and abuses labor rights. Visitors quickly find themselves detained by the local police officers, and their video or digital photographs erased. (“Toxic Tea Party”) In Guiyu most discarded computers and electronic devices from all over the world often end up there, this may be why it’s the e-waste capital of the world. Some developed countries have banned exportation of e-waste, but even if e-waste exports stopped Guiyu recycling would not stop; because China is generating more of its own e-waste. While we may consider the environmental and health problems that e-waste poses for people there, citizens in Guiyu do no think this way; because doing this work is their way of life. Conditions in Guiyu have changed little despite the efforts of the central government to crack down and enforce the long-standing e-waste import ban. The developed countries need to stop exporting e-waste to poorer developing countries; and the U.S. needs to reduce the toxicity and amount of e-waste that is being dumped there every year. (“Toxic Villages”) I do have a works cited page!
Phantom pregnancy? I should add that my sister IS pregnant. Could this be some kind of sympathy pregnancy? haha
