Anyone know about medical condition called Shingles? I know quite a bit about Shingles because my husband had it, my sister had it & now my Mom has it for the 3rd time in her later, adult life. What I can't seem to get a definate answer on is the prognosis...is it rare to get Shingles more then once? Some Docs say yes & some say the Shingles can reoccur many times. What do you think?
Shingles (the medical condition) - what can be done for the pain? My husband was recently diagnosed with Shingles. It's very painful for him and he does not want to take the Morphine for the pain, and Motrin only helps to a certain extent. He only feels some pain relief when he sits in a hot shower. Has anyone ever had shingles? What are some alternatives that he could do to alleviate pain?
Will shingles stop me from doing certain activities? I recently found out that I have a minor case of shingles and I am currently taking medicine to cut the healing time in half, but I know very little about shingles and I had some questions. Am I still allowed to engage in physical activity without worsening my condition? Can I wrap it up in medical wrap so it doesn't rub against other parts of my body or will that make it itch more? Besides my medicine, is there anything I can do to make the healing process faster? Please help!
can shingles effect your tailbone? severe pain in the tailbone, walks with legs apart, slight extended belly, are these symptoms caused by shingles or something different! P.S. no jokes this is a real medical condition i need to know about

how would i quote or use this in my research paper? According to Medilexicon's medical dictionary, herpes zoster (shingles) is "an infection caused by a herpes virus (varicella-zoster virus), characterized by an eruption of groups of vesicles on one side of the body following the course of a nerve due to inflammation of ganglia and dorsal nerve roots resulting from activation of the virus, which in many instances has remained latent for years following a primary chickenpox infection; the condition is self-limited but may be accompanied by or followed by severe postherpetic pain."
could somebody tell me the meaning behind this particular painting of Saint Anthony? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:StAnthony.jpg Is this some kind of example of a medical physical? I'm aware that there is a particular name for the condition known as shingles/ herpes zoster which is also known as St. Anthony's' fire. But I'm also aware of a particular subject in art known as St Anthony's Temptation, especially popular during the middle ages in Italy and Germany. I know he was afflicted by torments of laziness, boredom, and phantoms of women, and that when closed himself off from the world, he would have visions of vicious animals come to rip him apart, at which he would scoff. However i have read nothing of homosexuality, to which this painting seems to allude. Also can someone translate the writings?

My Cat is really sick? My Cat Tiger is an indoor kitty turned outdoor bc of living arrangements. Out of guilt i have built him a nice kitty house with 3/4 styrafoam and shingles to keep warm and dry. Needless to say the past four days i have been watching him suffer. On Thursday i noticed he wasn't eating or drinking water and he hadn't been meowing the past three days so i had known something wasn't right. He would try to meow but it sounded like a pathetic croak. I stayed up with him all night watching him and syringing incriments of water in his mouth. At this point his breathing was very labored and raspy and he moved his head forward to breathe every single breath. I took him to the vet Friday morning and they gave him amoxacilin and a steroid and then kept him over night to monitor hime. I checked up on him once every hour or hour and half until they closed and at one point was told that he wasn't looking so good that maybe should put him down after being told twice that he seemed to be responding to the oxygen and meds. I called in the morning and picked him up and the vet told me that he was missing 15% of his body fluids when he got there and that he didn't register a tempeture. He also told me that he thought Tiger has a small hole in his lung as there is a crinkly like feeling right behind in right ear downd his side to a little under his tummy. Due to the lack of money i was unable to do any further medical research due to money issues. Now to start Tiger had been very skinny and everyone told me they thought he had worms, which is hard for me to believe since i worm him routinely. Second, he had been through several tramatic events such as exposure outside, move to my moms and back to me, and very recently a pretty bad what i thought was animal fight. The past three weeks he has been recovering from an extremely battered ear and skinned face. The past three days i have occasionally smelt death on him and i swear i could see it over his shoulder. My question is, any ideas? Is there a way to homopathicly help heal him over time, any ideas on medical treatment or conditions that may be the issue. And if not is there any way i can make him more comfortable before he passes. The vet i wasted my money on was not very informative or helpful except for a call if you have any questions, and being as i still owe them $100 for their services or lack of, i didn't feel the welcome to call with concerns nor did i think they would provide any answers. The only reason that i left him there, is because i already paid the emergency visit fee, and can't afford another one at another place, and second the nurse or tech, was a cat person and he responds very well to posative encouragement and needs attention right now. Please help
What is wrong with my skin?:? My skin is looking really dry and wrinkled. None of my siblings have skin that looks like this. It looks very thin. It was looking dry & ,now it looks worse than merely dry.. In addition, something else really strange is going on. A number of times now, for no reason, other than feeling a prickle like sensation, I will get big red splotches, sometimes with raised welts in the big red splotches. The splotches are tender. Does Herpes II or Shingles do this. Nothing I read about those two conditions look like this? Is there some sort of bug that does that. I have seen scabies infection, long ago, and it was not like this. There is a bug from Mexico, I believe, which can cause weird symptoms. I was lying on the couch, one which I bought r years ago. It was clean. No infestation of anything, no odor, nothing. I am keeping it, by the way. Never as long as I live getting another, same for clothes. Why bother? . Tonight I was lying there and I felt a prickle and looked at my arm . There was a huge red area about two and one half inches long and about an inch wide which had raised welts in it like blistering. The welts went away, the splotch remained. I was in the car one day, I looked at my wrist and it had blisters on it, suddenly. They took my BP at the doctors, never had latex allergy before, and where they took my BP from the cuff I had small blisters, raised red areas. The blisters never break, just go down. What is it? I now use hypoallergenic detergent. I use very mild soap. I itch all over at times. This is something new. I do put a pot of water on for steam and moisture sometimes. It is very damp and rainy now, so lack of moisture in the air is not the problem. I cannot perspire now but for minute amounts on the ends of my toes , very small amounts in my armpits and very very little in the groin area. I am miserably hot all the time, but coolness on my skin makes me feel as though I am chilling from fever. I have been to see medical doctors. They are indifferent. They work for money, is the message, I said that I worked for money. I would not work if I did not get paid. I am going to be punished to death for this. I am not given to having a huge imagination, and not one to connect everything without working really hard at it. Some really mean grudge work going on here. .. I have no insurance. I paid almost $300 to have them stick my finger for a glucometer which they did not do correctly and take my BP. I have very limited income. No health insurance. High death rate here for people in their low 60's and mid. I came here healthy. Is this something "peculiar" to Ak.? I did not say I worked for money at a job interview. Nursing is hard risky work, deadly hours. The person is up to their neck in potentially harmful illnesses. Nurses training costs money the same as medical doctors. No one goes into nursing, do they, to work for low pay? I did not. I am no longer a nurse. I may die from being a nurse. If I do not, it is by the grace of God and my trying to be careful, only. Disease Survey, Which would you rather have? All are in the herpes family: 1) Herpes simplex virus Type 1 (HSV-1) / Type 2 (HSV-2) Commonly known as genital herpes Flaring up once every month 2) Epstein Barr virus (EBV) Causes Mononucleosis aka Mono aka the kissing Disease Causing fatigue once a week 3) Varicella Zoster Virus (VZV) Chicken pox – Shingles Happening every time you experience stress This is for a Medical Student's Lab project, I get to grow these fun diseases for a month. I want to see what would be a worse one to have. Because some are easier to handle than others I added the conditions of having them to even out the playing field.

What is wrong with my body/Depression tips? I know I'll catch the appropriate amount of crap for asking the brilliant medical doctors of Yahoo Answers...but I've exhausted any other options. I've been under a lot of stress with a touch of depression, and I'm not eating at all. I know I have symptoms of starvation, but other things are happening too that aren't common. I noticed this morning that I have small red bumps on my breasts and tummy. They don't appear to be acne (I've never had any body acne problems), it's not shingles. They aren't painful and they aren't in a particular area, they are spread out. It's not a rash, it's just sporadic red bumps. They also just suddenly appeared. No pre-symptoms, they didn't start small, they just magically appeared. Is this because I'm not eating? Is it because of stress? I've tried to research skin conditions, but it's not coming up with anything that sounds like my problem. And I know it's not good to not eat, mothers of Yahoo. But I really don't feel like eating, I'm not hungry and I have been trying to force down some soup when I can. Seeing a doctor is also not an option. I'm a freelancer with no insurance, and free clinics scare me. I'm sure this is something I can treat without a doctor. Has anyone heard of this? Also, if you have any tips for depression, or what you do to make yourself feel better, I'd appreciate it. Edit: I'm not trying to hurt myself, and I'm not doing this on purpose. I just don't feel hungry anymore. I know it's temporary, I don't have permanent depression. I'm generally a very happy and positive person. Just going through a rough spot. I am trying to eat, I really am. Just worried about these bumps. I know I can't self diagnose, I was just trying to avoid seeing a doctor at any cost.
solution for facial nerve damage pain? I have a condition called postherpetic neuralgia, and I am desperate for a solution to my forehead nerve damage pain. I need help finding a nerve specialist doctor. I live in Tuolumne County. I am willing to travel if I can a doctor who can help me. I got the shingles virus in 2001, and have been fighting the stabbing, stinging pain for way too long! It's totally changed my life, and I'm getting worn out, and depressed from the constant pain on the right side of my forehead, and top of head. I take pain med. to alleviate the pain, but nothing stops it completely. I really need help with medical research. I have seen several doctors for PHN, but without success. I need a solution, not more medicine. I need support, and help. Can anyone help me?
