What did humans do to cause the Gulf of Mexico Dead Zone? Right now I am looking at the Gulf of Mexico Dead Zone and was just wondering.. what did humans do to cause this?
Gulf of Mexico Dead Zone Question? Why oxygen can't enter the gulf when there is FreshWater on top? I am currently studying the Gulf of Mexico Dead Zone. It says that " The freshwater from the Mississippi River floats on top of the saltwater on the Gulf of Mexico. Due to this, the oxygen in the air cannot get into the deep water. " I was just wondering why is it that oxygen can't enter the Gulf of Mexico when there is Fresh Water on top of it? Thanks = )
Short Term Effects of the Dead Zone? (Gulf of Mexico)? What are some short term effects of the Gulf of Mexico Dead Zone? For example, fish and shrimp go into the dead zone without realizing it's low in oxygen and die.
Long Term Effects of a Dead Zone? ( Gulf of Mexico )? What are some long term effects from the Gulf of Mexico Dead Zone? Will it get larger and kill off more fish? I know that in the summer when their is heat it expands and when it's wind it gets smaller.. but I'm not sure what the long term effects are? Also the short term effects?
Gulf of Mexico Dead Zone. Long term and short term effects? What are the long term and short term effects of the Gulf of Mexico Dead Zone on humans and other living things?
Gulf of Mexico Dead Zone. Salt Water or Fresh Water? This may be a stupid question but I was just wondering, is the gulf of mexico dead zone a salt water or fresh water aquatic system?
what percent of the dead zone inthe gulf of mexico is the non farming population responsible for? farming has been accused of being the main and only culprits for the dead area in the gulf of mexico from nitrogen fertilizer runoff. nobody ever says a word about how many tons of nitrogen, potash, phosphate, pesticides and herbicides that the millions of homeowners apply to their lawns across the u.s. most homeowners in the city have no idea how much their applying per acre, some of our city friends' fertilization program consists of is " well if that amount is good then we will just double it and have twice as beautiful lawn.
Please tell me about the Dead Zone in the Gulf of Mexico, what time of year does it occur and what causes it? How can it be prevented, what time of year does it occur and what causes this? (The Dead Zone in the Gulf of Mexico) I am to have a huge discussion about this tomorrow and any interesting and important information about this you can tell me would be extremely helpful, thanks!
So there is a dead zone in the Gulf of Mexico? So there is a dead zone in the Gulf of Mexico, where no fish or sea life can exist due to lack of oxygen. Would it be possible to drop thousands of oxygen canisters in these areas to add oxygen to the dead zone?
How did the Gulf of Mexico’s dead zone form? (Points: 1)? All the fish and invertebrate species migrated elsewhere. An oil spill killed all the species there. Fertilizer runoff from farming caused populations of algae to grow exponentially. Hurricanes destroyed the coastline.
There is supposedly a 10,000 square mile Dead Zone in the Gulf of Mexico? Has anyone else signed up for the Free The Hemp website? And what is the deal with a Dead Zone where no fish or life exists in lthe Gulf.... ???? Anyone????
Is the "Dead Zone" in the Gulf of Mexico made worse by AGW,or is it a "hoax" or a "natural occurrence"? There is a "Dead Zone" off the Wash. / Ore. coast also. http://www.kristy/global/story.asp?s=8718376
Should environmentalist change the Gulf of Mexico's name to the Dead Sea? Posted: Jun 18, 2010 4:30 PM EDT Updated: Jun 18, 2010 5:30 PM EDT By MATTHEW BROWN and RAMIT PLUSHNICK-MASTI Associated Press Writers NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Vast amounts of natural gas contained in crude escaping from the blown Gulf of Mexico oil well could pose a serious threat to marine life by creating "dead zones" where oxygen is so depleted that nothing lives. The danger presented by the methane has been largely overlooked, with early efforts to monitor the oil spill focusing on the more toxic components of oil. But scientists are increasingly worried about the gas that can suffocate sea creatures in high concentrations. http://ww.abc6.com/global/story.asp?s=12674046 Edit: This is very, very, very sad. I can't believe this is actually happening during my life time. I wonder what the Gulf is going to be like 20 years from now? ( o _ 0 ) Makes you wonder if this is only the beginning of bad things to come. The earth is our home. Not the moon. Not mars. So what if humans colonize the moon or mars, we'll eventually destroy those planets too!

What's up with all this news about dead animals recently? Dead birds around lakes in Minnesota, the dead zone in the Gulf of Mexico, and last week it was dead penguins washing up along some beach?
What do people of other countries think of the Gulf Disaster? I don't see much on answers regarding the gulf disaster - i get the feeling people feel bad about it but don't understand that there is a dead zone now in the gulf of mexico with no end of spreading in site - do people even talk about with friends or in groups?
Now that I have set a friendly tone for today's question, who really cares if the Gulf Coast is turned into? an Industrial Sacrifice Zone? Before the BP Spill, brought to us by Drill Baby Drill, 7000 square miles of the Gulf of Mexico is a Dead Zone, depleted of oxygen where nothing can live. This is caused by fertilizer runoff from the MidWest, hog farms ect. The size of the Dead Zone increases each year and it will be only a matter of time until the Gulf of Mexico can no longer sustain life. Spill Baby Spill
hypoxic or "dead zone"? I am writing a paper on the Gulf of Mexico's hypoxic or "dead zone". I am confused about what causes the oxygen to be depleted. Some people say it is caused by the overwhelming nutrients like nitrogen running into the gulf. others say its from algea blooms dying off and sinking to the bottom where bacteria consume them and use up all the oxygen. and finally some say that its from the fresh water floating on top the salt water and not alowing oxygen to enter through to the salt water.
Where are the marine dead zones? I'm looking preferably for estuaries. I'm doing a report on the Chesapeake Bay and I need something to compare it to. I know the Gulf of Mexico is one of most notorious dead zones, but I'm not sure if I should use this one because I want to compare to something outside of the US.

Estuary From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (Redirected from Estuaries) For other uses, see Estuary (disambiguation). Estuary of Klamath River An estuary is a partly enclosed coastal body of water with one or more rivers or streams flowing into it, and with a free connection to the open sea.[1] Estuaries form a transition zone between river environments and ocean environments and are subject to both marine influences, such as tides, waves, and the influx of saline water; and riverine influences, such as flows of fresh water and sediment. The inflow of both seawater and freshwater provide high levels of nutrients in both the water column and sediment, making estuaries among the most productive natural habitats in the world [2] Most modern-day estuaries were formed during the Holocene epoch by the flooding of river-eroded or glacially-scoured valleys when sea level began to rise about 10,000-12,000 years ago.[3] Estuaries are typically classified by their geomorphological features or by water circulation patterns and can be referred to by many different names, such as bays, harbors, lagoons, inlets, or sounds, although sometimes these water bodies do not necessarily meet the above criteria of an estuary and may be fully saline. Estuaries are amongst the most heavily populated areas throughout the world, with about 60% of the world’s population living along estuaries and the coast. As a result, estuaries are suffering degradation by many factors, including sedimentation from soil erosion from deforestation; overgrazing and other poor farming practices; overfishing; drainage and filling of wetlands; eutrophication due to excessive nutrients from sewage and animal wastes; pollutants including heavy metals, PCBs, radionuclides and hydrocarbons from sewage inputs; and diking or damming for flood control or water diversion.[3]

BP oil spew Who benefits? "You should never let a good crises go to waste" --- So it spews -- killing animals and possibly making the Gulf of Mexico a dead zone So who benefits ? With so many people and animals and the environment suffering it might be difficult to think of this disaster benefiting anyone But someone IS benefiting Who would that be ? This won't answer the question but it gives some background http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NgFjcXabXM The author suggests something about climate change legislation ***** Pearl You're probably a decent person who sees this as the disaster it is But -- and please consider this There are plenty of people who will see this as an opportunity that are not now nor have they ever been above both creating and exploiting that opportunity for any one of a number of reasons Take a step outside your decent persons perspective that sees the loss and the death and think like an evil bastard with no reguard for life who will see this as a wonderful chance to do something ---- and that will lead you down the path of who benefits Then go right back to your decent person perspective and feel the outrage you are entitled to At the very least --- Someone will exploit this disaster for their own twisted gain at the expense of others

100,000 times to a million times the acceptable methane levels around the Gulf How do you plan to sue for that? By Julie Steenhuysen CHICAGO | Tue Jun 22, 2010 6:58pm EDT CHICAGO (Reuters) - As much as 1 million times the normal level of methane gas has been found in some regions near the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, enough to potentially deplete oxygen and create a dead zone, U.S. scientists said on Tuesday. Texas A&M University oceanography professor John Kessler, just back from a 10-day research expedition near the BP Plc oil spill in the gulf, says methane gas levels in some areas are "astonishingly high." Kessler's crew took measurements of both surface and deep water within a 5-mile (8 kilometer) radius of BP's broken wellhead. "There is an incredible amount of methane in there," Kessler told reporters in a telephone briefing. In some areas, the crew of 12 scientists found concentrations that were 100,000 times higher than normal. "We saw them approach a million times above background concentrations" in some areas, Kessler said. The scientists were looking for signs that the methane gas had depleted levels of oxygen dissolved in the water needed to sustain marine life. "At some locations, we saw depletions of up to 30 percent of oxygen based on its natural concentration in the waters. At other places, we saw no depletion of oxygen in the waters. We need to determine why that is," he told the briefing. Methane occurs naturally in sea water, but high concentrations can encourage the growth of microbes that gobble up oxygen needed by marine life. Kessler said oxygen depletions have not reached a critical level yet, but the oil is still spilling into the Gulf, now at a rate of as much as 60,000 barrels a day, according to U.S. government estimates. "What is it going to look like two months down the road, six months down the road, two years down the road?" he asked. Methane, a natural gas, dissolves in seawater and some scientists think measuring methane could give a more accurate picture of the extent of the oil spill. Kessler said his team has taken those measurements, and is hoping to have an estimate soon. "Give us about a week and we should have some preliminary numbers on that," he said. if increasing our corn acres to grow fuel is bad for the environment, why is growing corn for food not bad? all the talk of growing corn for fuel is bad for the environment and contributing to the dead zone in the gulf of mexico, why is growing more acres of corn for food not equally a bad idea ? if we were to grow more corn for food and the price of it went down, would that be a crime against humanity because we wanted cheaper food and wanted to eat more? the first thing you hear when we talk about growing corn for fuel is, increasing corn acres will increase the amount of chemicals and fertilizers in the environment, but what"s the difference in growing crops for food or fuel, the results are the same.

Do you all want to learn about the marshes of SE Louisiana? I grew up as a child in the 70's and was able to spend a lot of time hunting and fishing those bountiful marshes. This area has more coastal marine life that anywhere in the continental U.S. It is/was a nature wonderland. It is where marine life spawned and is/was a huge part of the Eco chain. Here is an example of how bountiful the SE La marshes are: I can remember after one late afternoon duck hunt (killed 12 ducks), my buddy and I were on our way back to the hunting/fishing camp after the hunt and stopped a dam that we had to cross. This dam had one foot of water overflow. We broke out fishing rods and caught 20 huge speckled trout in less than 30 minutes. When we got back to the camp it was dark, so we checked our rabbit traps that we had set earlier that day and all four traps had rabbits in them. After our morning duck hunt, we went back to the hunting camp and started fishing a small dam located 50 yards from the camp. The dam occasionally had overflow at high tide and this morning it was coming over pretty strong. We caught 30 bass in 30 minutes at this dam. That afternoon as the tide went down, we sat on the front porch smoking a J and watched all of the wildlife come out on the mud banks to scour for shell fish. The marshes were so full of life and up until a week ago, it was still teeming with life. Now, it may be 20 years for this to come back if it does at all. The long term affects of the oil in the marsh will ruin it. This area is/was a national treasure. For it to be filled with crude oil is a catastrophe. Man has ruined nature again. Not only the marshes of SE La will be affected. The Gulf of Mexico as a whole will suffer greatly. There is a 200 square mile dead zone in the Gulf as we speak and this will grow even bigger. Let's pray that this never happens again anywhere in the world.

This is what deep freezers in our garages are for...:-) I was taught not to kill it if you are not going to eat it. Edit: I failed to mention that this area provides the U.S. with 1/3 of it's seafood. 60% of America's blue crab and 75% of America's Oysters come from here. The seafood industry in this area has provided for thousands of families. From the commercial fisherman to the seafood restaurants to the suppliers of these restaurants, etc.
can u help me add a few sentences to my paper? i dont know what else to write...? i need like 5 more sentences. can u help me, and tell me where to add tehm. it doesnt ahve to be factual, it could e oppinionated or a generalization, whatever works. here my paper: High-Fructose Corn Syrup Not That Sweet The production of high-fructose corn syrup has many negative effects on the body, and on the environment. High-fructose corn syrup was introduced into the food market in the late 1970’s, as an effort to save money (Hand). Although high-fructose corn syrup extends the shelf life of processed foods, and is much cheaper than other, natural sweeteners, it isn’t worth including it in people’s diets when there are other alternatives (Zeratsky). Natural sweeteners are healthier, and they are eco-friendly, unlike HFCS. The production of high-fructose corn syrup should be banned, because much more than our health is at stake. High-fructose corn syrup is very unhealthy. It leads to many things, such as diabetes, and obesity. HFCS is much worse for you than natural sweeteners are. Yet, most people take in more high-fructose corn syrup than any other sweetener. The average person takes in seventy-eight pounds of high-fructose corn syrup per year; this is extremely unhealthy (Hopkins). When HFCS is digested, it foes directly to the liver, which releases enzymes that make the body store fat. This makes triglyceride and cholesterol levels rise. HFCS causes weight gain, because it slows down the fat-burning process. Also, it doesn’t stimulate insulin production. This usually allows a person to feel full, however, since it is not stimulated, it often causes people to overeat. Almost all products made with high-fructose corn syrup are high in calories, and low in nutritional value (Zeratsky). These foods cause people to become diabetic, which in turn, cause conditions like type two diabetes, high blood pressure, and coronary artery disease (Zeratsky). Also, almost half of commercial high-fructose corn syrup contains mercury. This is just one more reason why you shouldn’t consume products that contain HFCS. High-fructose corn syrup also has a terrible effect on the environment. When land is used solely for growing corn, it depletes soil nutrients, requiring more pesticides and fertilizers while weakening topsoil (Hartman). High-fructose corn syrup has created major problems in the Gulf of Mexico. There is an area, called the dead-zone, where virtually nothing will live because it has been starved of oxygen by the fertilizer runoff coming down the Mississippi River from the corn belt (Hartman). The production of high-fructose corn syrup is extremely hazardous to our planet, and should be banned, before it is too late. High-fructose corn syrup is in more foods than you would expect it to be. It’s in soda, ketchup, fruit drinks, beer, salad dressings, cereals, breads, flavored yogurt, sauces, and tons of other things (Hand). It is also in almost all fast food restaurants’ food. Just at Burger King, it is in everything from soda, to ketchup, and from breakfast syrup to tarter sauce (Kuhl). It’s even in things we think are healthy, like Burger King’s Sesame Seed Buns, and their Mott’s Applesauce (Kuhl). If you want to be healthier, you can limit the amount of high-fructose corn syrup in your diet, or eliminate it all together. Some ways to do this are to stop eating fast food, drink less soda, cut down on juices with a high concentration of sugar, and limit processed foods from your diet. According to a recent study, sixty-five percent of the American population wants to get rid of HFCS (Nestle). This study was based on three thousand participants that were taught about the positive and negative aspects of high-fructose corn syrup. These participants were all customers of Jason’s Deli, which has over two hundred outlets in the United States. Aware of the dangers caused by high-fructose corn syrup, Jason’s Deli banned it from all of its products (Nestle). By consuming products that contain HFCS, all we are doing is supporting it. If you want a healthier lifestyle, or if you want to go green, stop taking in high-fructose corn syrup. High-fructose corn syrup should be banned everywhere, before it can do any more damage than it already has. i know its alot, but for every person that answers ill post anther question and u can answer it, and ill give you best answer, even if you answer with "hi" or something.

Would you be shocked if media was wrong about global warming? Two articles below state to different thoughts..? ARTICLE: http://news.yahoo.com/s/mcclatchy/20090609/sc_mcclatchy/3249010 Scientists: Global warming has already changed oceans WASHINGTON — In Washington state , oysters in some areas haven't reproduced for four years, and preliminary evidence suggests that the increasing acidity of the ocean could be the cause. In the Gulf of Mexico , falling oxygen levels in the water have forced shrimp to migrate elsewhere. Though two marine-derived drugs, one for treating cancer and the other for pain control, are on the market and 25 others are under development, the fungus growing on seaweed, bacteria in deep sea mud and sea fans that could produce life-saving medicines are under assault from changing the ocean conditions. Researchers, scientists and Jacques Cousteau's granddaughter painted a bleak picture Tuesday of the future of oceans and the "blue economy" of the nation's coastal states. The hearing before the oceans subcommittee of the Senate Commerce Committee was expected to focus on how the degradation of the oceans was affecting marine businesses and coastal communities. Instead, much of the testimony focused on how the waters that cover 70 percent of the planet are already changing because of global warming. Ocean acidification or diseases that thrive in acidified, oxygen-depleted seawater could be responsible for oysters not reproducing in Washington state , said Brad Warren , who oversees the ocean health and acidification program of the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership in Seattle . A federal study found that two-thirds of larval blue crabs died when exposed to acidity levels like those currently measured off the West Coast , he said. Federal studies also found acidity levels in the North Pacific and off Alaska are unusually high compared to other ocean regions. The high acidity is already taking a toll of such tiny species as pteropods, which are an important food for salmon and other fish. As greenhouse gas emissions increase, billions of tons of carbon dioxide from smokestacks and vehicle tailpipes are absorbed by the oceans. The result is carbonic acid, which dilutes the "rich soup" of calcium carbonate in the seawater that many species, especially on the low end of the food chain, thrive in, Warren said. "If we lose it, it is gone forever," Warren said of the oceans' delicate chemical balance. In the Gulf of Mexico , Alexandra Cousteau said, the runoff down the Mississippi River from farms in the Midwest has created a dead zone the size of New Jersey where few species can survive. Wetlands in Louisiana are disappearing at the rate of 33 football fields a day as hurricanes grow in strength and frequency because of climate change, she said. "We must start to realize that there can be no standalone policies, especially as they relate to our water resources," Cousteau said. "Energy, transportation, climate change, infrastructure, agriculture, urban development: this is where our ocean policy must begin. It is all interconnected." Others testified that the economic toll eventually could be enormous for fishing and other ocean-related industries and for the nation's coastal communities. Taken together, the ocean and coastal economies, including the Great Lakes , provide more than 50 million jobs and make up nearly 60 percent of the nation's economy. "Significant environmental changes, such as sea level and sea temperature rise, oxygen depletion and ocean acidification, will dramatically change the landscape, restructuring an array of natural and physical assets as well as cultural and economic," said Judith Kidlow of the National Ocean Economics Program. "Over the next 30 years, the nation will see the most significant changes in the ocean and coastal economies since the arrival of industrialization and urbanization." The subcommittee's chairman, Sen. Maria Cantwell , D- Wash. , suggested a doubling of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration budget, which is now about $4 billion , and giving the agency additional responsibilities. Cantwell, however, said the key has to be passing comprehensive climate change legislation to reduce carbon emissions. "Protecting our oceans is an environmental and economic imperative," Cantwell said VERSUS ARTICLE : http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/environment/globalwarming/4029837/Global-warming-Reasons-why-it-might-not-actually-exist.html Global warming: Reasons why it might not actually exist 2008 was the year man-made global warming was disproved, according to the Telegraph's Christopher Booker. In 1979 the Bay of Campeche suffered a massive oil spill that took 9 months to cap, the current spill on the gulf is the result of a fail-safe failing an there are thousands and thousands of abandoned oil and gas wells on the gulf of Mexico none checked for their potential danger to the environment.(my point being they never learn) lets ignore the fact that the dead zone has doubled in size in the last two decades...Is the main reason for this feeble attempt to cap the spill simply because they are losing a fortune because lets face it, they don't seem to give a shit about the environment. ... @Curtis- They've said this before valves need to be shut cap needs to be tested...too soon to tell... EDIT-there ARE alternatives to oil out there but it would prove economically inefficient for big oil companies and YOUR government... @Infernal D- I'm sorry, I didn't include those stats at the start for fun, I thought I was trying to make it clear that this is NOT the first time something like this has happened. @Curtis- -Taylor Energy Wells 2004, ongoing. - New Orleans 2008 -Citgo refinery, Shell, Bass, Chevron 2006

What if we do nothing about amnesty? The following is what will happen if we do not stop the Mexican invasion. WHEN THE BLUE HATS COME “219 killed in May, Damn,” Joe said to Dave as he read the headlines. “The surge isn’t working,” said Dave. “But this is only the beginning. Soon the blue hats will come” “How do you figure that?” “Iran will be blamed for the failure of the surge. The president will again accuse Iran of supplying weapons, but this time he will order them to stop or face military reprisal. Then the UN will step in and take our guns. It is coming soon, in the next two years. Then they will take our guns. Better get them now before you have to register even shotguns” Joe and Dave were Vietnam War veterans who met for coffee on Wednesdays and Fridays before their support group. Vietnam Veterans did not trust the government for good reasons. In February 1968, the North Vietnamese hit us with every thing that they had. They moved swiftly and took over major cities and South Vietnamese positions. With in six months we had taken back everything. They had spent most of their forces on the Tet Offensive. Westmoreland told Johnson that with 150,000 troops he could push the NVR north of the seventeenth parallel. Johnson sent 16,000 and the war went on for another ten years costing an additional 50,000 troops lives. Joe thought about it on the bus ride home he had several guns including an Uzi. However, he mostly tried to put it out of his mind. He was an advocate for Veterans issues. Dave was running a camp for when the blue hats came. He sure did not want to go to that extreme. Just last month he had talked at the camp. .It was much different from what he expected if he had indeed any expiation. He encouraged them to get themselves registered to vote and write Senators and Representatives about our cause and to stand up for Veterans rights. “No we need to keep a low profile. Don’t want to let them know besides we don’t know who we can trust!” He had assured them that the government knows where you are all the time. “Let them think we have our minds on other things.” In addition, Joe was thinking more every day that his friend was right. Still he wondered how it might come about. Joe had went to college on the GI Bill but never declared a major. He did however spend a semester reading political science. He did not agree with the war effort in Iraq we were duped. However, we were there and should fight to win. They should have sent enough to do the job. The Generals should have anticipated the infighting that occurred afterward. Therefore, to get one world government the president gets us into a thousand year old war. War with Iran would precipitate an all out war in the Gulf. On the other hand, maybe he wants to start a civil war so we can take over their oil while they are fighting. By the time Joe got home, his head was spinning governed by what he called the committee in the back room. Coming into the apartment, he felt more relaxed. Joe did not like crowds. He locked and double-checked the doors and windows. He went into his office, the other bedroom. He opened the closet and checked out his guns. Dave keeps telling him to get more ammunition. All he wanted to do was relax. He turned on the news on TV. No! He thought, not this! The President was talking. He had warned Iran they if they continue to interfere it would mean war. He ordered the Seventh Fleet lead by the “fighting gun ship” the Oklahoma City to the gulf. Four aircraft carriers were close by on maneuvers. Wonder how that happened. The president had ordered reserves and National Guard units back to into active duty. Joe flopped down into his recliner the committee was debating. He jumped up and checked the doors. The phone rang startling him. It was Dave asking if he had heard the news. He had said that when to blue hats come you could always camp with me. Dave had reminded him to get ammunition and stock up on non-perishables. He remembered beef jerky would curb your appetite and give you your needed salt. He had been for the last two years been buying gold chains, which he figured it to be a medium of exchange. He was in touch with ten thousand vets most were working with him, passing on the word or bringing others to the website. If Dave was right, he had to act quickly. ‘Still how was this going to happen here?’ he thought. Joe thought back to his political class with Professor Winthrop. Hitler had used the violence in the street that he perpetrated to declare marshal law. That was the transition. He uses this war to declare marshal law, reinstates the draft to keep the peace at home. Dave is right all they have to do is change uniforms. He could hear Dave and his conversation. “When the blue hats come first they will take our guns. “ Tell me again why is the UN coming here?” “One World Order” “But don’t we have the power to stop them? We still have the coast guard.” “Don’t you see they are already in country? They are members of the Coast Guard and other forces. All they have to do is change uniforms.” “Would not that be treason?” “They are soldiers; they just follow orders without question. It is we vets who have to take the lead.” . All of these things kept racing through Joe’s head. He placed his head in his hands and sighed. Every one was heading for the gulf, leaving us venerable at home. Our home defenses were down because the president thought that most of the war would be fault in the Gulf. Most of NATO including Russia who had their own problems with Islam, held their breath but had silently informed America’s president they would help contain fighting to the area. He reinstated the draft. All forces in the European theater were heading for the gulf. Three hundred thousand were going to Iraq to guard the border with Iran. US war ships fired on Tehran as 700.00 Marines hit the beach. Iran not unprepared inflicted heavy causalities on the invading forces. Over one hundred forty thousand were lost in securing the landing. Syria along with Iranian commandos invaded Israel. Palestine Humas with the aid of Hezbollah invaded from the south. Egypt proclaimed its’ neutrality but did not block Shiites from going to Iran. Iran also sent troops into Iraq to fight the Americans there and into Lebanon to fight the advancing Israeli troops. Fighting worsened out between the Summi and Shiite it was chaos. In Iraq, the Shiites backed by Iran captured Bagdad’s Green Zone and took over the government. Saudi Arabia moved in from the south with two hundred thousand fighting both American and Shiites for control of the southern oil fields. Israel sent troops into Palestine and carried out air strikes into Iran. In the beginning, Egypt tried to stay neutral but fighting broke out in the Streets of Cairo. After declaring Marshall Law there were immediate uprisings all over the country. There were no real alliances. Saudi Arabia and Jordan were the only countries where fighting was not on their own shores. Iran had a standing army of two million. One hundred thousand with the aid of Mexican illegal immigrants stormed the border. Over one hundred thousand were Iranian posted in the last year. While the president was rattling sabers with Iran’s president, he was building up his military. We had no home defense, border guards were easily over come since they only had side arms against advancing Armies. Chases of weapons were stored in country. Western Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and Southern California fell quickly. Iran secured the area and gave it to Mexico as part of a treaty agreement. The President of Mexico replaced American police with his own. He Praised Iran for reversing a great injustice. All US forces at home defend the border but it took months for the movement to reach the fighting. Mexico had established its border while Iranian forces spread out through the United States. The president declared Marshall Law and reinstated the draft just as Dave had predicted. Europe had broken out in pure chaos, separate wars all over the place with few alliances. In the Balkans, fighting was between the Serbs who were Christian and Romanians who were Muslim. Similar wars were going on all over Europe. Germany had rounded up all Muslims and put them in camps. Brittan was attempting the same thing but fierce fighting was going on in London. Ireland declared their independence and England because of the fighting at home was unable to stop the new state. FrFrance declared its’ neutrality but rounded up all weapons and made it a capital crime to carry a firearm. Turkey invaded Greece with out NATO to intercede it was a quick victory. With a tough Military reign, they were able to crush internal clashes quickly. . Joe had spent the last two years contacting as many as veterans do as he could, guiding them into the camp, and had managed to get four thousand. Dave’s camp now called “Free America.” covered a thousand acres in the northern California‘s mountains on the edge 500,000 of national forest. They now had forts and boarder patrols. Most of them were veterans and their families how had pledged each other the honor and sacred trust. The time had arrived to disappear. He turned off the GPS device on his cell. He was remembering the things his friend explained earlier. Any cell made after 2003 could not turn off the GPS device. Prepaid cells were the way to go. There first thing to do is get supplies and plenty of ammunition. Joe sat and signed, it seemed impossible. Get prepaid phones, he thought and pre paid ATM cards. He would slowly move his money into these untraceable cards. In the first year, bases were opening again. However, we all knew that these troops were not be deployed but are trained to wear the blue hats. If Dave was right, this conflict will bring us to the brink of WWIII. Then the UN would step in to broker peace. Then they will come for our guns. He went to the bank and emptied his safety deposit box. He put the fifty pounds of gold chains into his briefcase and wondered how much it would buy. Street gangs and renegade cops controlled their own areas. Awaking sleeper cells carried out suicide bombings and planted roadside bombs. The white house was under siege and the president declared marshal law. However, the banks closed as well as the stock exchange. With no money to pay the police, most cities descended in to chaos. Communications were failing all over the country. Mostly the news we got was from vets who had found their way to us. Reports told us that there were five splinters in the gulf fighting each other. It was near impossible to tell who the enemy was. In the North East, most of New England asked Canada for protection and became providences of Canada. Muslins and Christians fought for control of New York, Chicago, DC. The rural north became a lawless void where only gold was used as mediums of exchange. Mercenaries were going to the highest bidder. The South was in much better shape. Different factions controlled much larger pieces of the pie. The Army of God controlled most of the rural south where because of their established large training camps. The rest of the South divided its’ allegiance between the White and Black Christian. Forces led by Harold Cain an ex military man turned Baptist preacher controlled North Carolina, South Carolina, and Northern Florida. The Black Nationalist Party controlled Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. Though they mistrusted each other, they worked together for a common cause. Muslims there were crushed or on the run. Each had a bounty of ten ounces of gold. Cuba had invaded Florida and was fighting in Miami with the exiles. Mercenaries were getting rich switching sides for the highest bidder. Patriot groups had established a line between advancing forces and us. The line ran from Huston Texas through the middle of New Mexico then to the High Desert. The evading forces along with established cells had taken Los Angles and all areas south of there. Street gangs fought for control. They did not know and did not care who they were shooting. The evasion had slowed down allowing patriot groups like America Patriots to establish front lines. Several Christian groups claimed the mid west with large armies and better communications. Every one stopped by the Morality police arrested everyone not declaring their faith. They shut down the bars and church attendance was mandatory. Some reports were saying that people were being tortured in the form of the Great Inquisition. White power radicals mostly ruled the Great Northwest. They were killing everybody that came close. Those not wearing WHITE POWER on their head were soon dead. A well-established border was set up between Washington, Oregon, Northern California and Montana, Idaho. Native backed by money from the casinos had hired their own armies. They invited anyone who wanted to live in peace in but did not allow guns. The same thing was true in Nevada where poker chips were worth more than paper money or coins minted by a failing federal government. Then there were groups like us waiting. We were now eight thousand strong. We do not leave our strong hold because we know this is just the precursor of things to come. Next, the UN will step in and broker a peace truce or at least a cease-fire. Then forces everywhere will don the blue hats of the peacekeepers. Then they would come for our guns. Gun registration made it easy. We would wait until they have established a foot holds and before they take power.
