low oxygen saturation levels? I just found out I have sleep apnea. I am fine with that but the doctors are concerned that my oxygen saturation levels dropped to 60 most of the night without the CPAP and 90 with it. Is it normal to have your oxygen levels down that low when you sleep?
Can pain effect someone's oxygen saturation levels? I have arthritis of the neck, and it seems like every time I get pain, my oxygen saturation levels are low...is there a link between pain and low oxygen saturation level?
Oxygen saturation levels drop while sleeping, what is this called? I do not have any interruptions in my breathing. No pauses, no snoring. However, my oxygen sat levels drop down to 80 soon as I fall asleep. This sounds similar to Sleep Apnea, but as I have no interruptions in breathing (no stops), it is not that. Anyone have an idea what the name of this might be? I am 24, Never smoked in my life. p.s. I am going back for second sleep study and all, but my doctor didn't give me any sort of name or idea of WHAT this could be, the cause of the lessened saturation during sleep, and wanted to have help to find more information before the second study so I am not as freaked out about this. Thank you all for the help. ~Also have type two diabetes, hypothyroidism, high blood pressure, year round allergies, and yes I am obese. (I have been trying to lose weight my whole life, please don't harp on it.) Thank you everyone again! I have been overweight my whole life, but the sleep issue is NEW. So it is not directly related to my weight. Thank you all.
question about oxygen saturation levels in infant? we took my 2mo old to cardiologist today. she tetralogy of fallot with complete av canal malformation. 2 weeks ago he said she had mild chf and started her on lasix. last week her o2 levels were at 94%. today they were at 86% and said that was good because that means her chf is improving. this confuses me and i didnt think to ask about it. thanks
Blood Oxygen Saturation level - what is the fatal and normal range? Blood Oxygen Saturation level - what is the fatal and normal range? How long is a sub 85% level sustainable without more than a simple mask? This is about my son. He is on hospice care, and is terminal. He is 1 year old, 9 pounds 8 ounces. This is a good weight for him due to proportion. He has a disease called rhizomelic chondrodysplasia punctata. He almost passed in july and barely beat an rsv infection that weakened him significantly. He is on a nasal cannula @ 1l. His oxygen sat level is now in in the high 80s with the 1l nasal cannula delivery. It drops to low 80s or worse at times when he cries or strains, or even urinates. Before these recent episodes he was in the low 90s with no oxygen. We have also put him on a feeding pump, which works with ng tube, to spread out his feeds and avoid fluid shock to his sytem. We will no hospitalize him. He was on oxygen only supplemental until 4 days ago when he had some respiratory episodes and needed to go back on oxygen permanently. I'm trying to get a realistic picture from someone who is no bias.
Oxygen Saturation Levels? Can someone please tell me where I can find a chart, or just anything, that tells me what the O2 sat. levels should be for the DIFFERENT HEART CHAMBERS, as well as pulmonary artery/vein and aorta? Thank you!
Hi guys, does anyone know what the blood oxygen saturation levels are supposed to be after tetralogy of fallot? corrective surgery? My 6 month old son has just been operated and still in ICU and his sats are at 82-89% with 70% oxygen on the ventilator. Is this normal, I thought it would be 95%+?? His sats before fluctuated between 70-85% when inactive and as low as 55% when crying. The pediatrician also told us yesterday that they discovered another hole in his heart so I don't know if this is the cause of the low current sats although they say it isn't, I'm very confused....
causes for low oxygen saturation level? What exactly cause low oxygen saturation? and why is surgery unable to continue until levels are back to normal? does having diabetes have anything to do with LOS levels?
What is a normal oxygen saturation level? Is it different depending on altitude?
Oxygen saturation drops with exercise? I've been dealing with a lot of breathing problems for several years. In some recent tests we've found that my oxygen saturation levels are dropping from a resting level of 98%-99% to 85% or lower with exercise. What are some things that could cause this? I do not have asthma, allergies, sleep apnea, a cardiac shunt, blood clots, vocal chord dysfunction, or any pulmonary function problems. I am in great shape. I'm a runner and cross country ski racer, I train an average of 13 hours a week. My blood pressure is low and my resting heartrate is around 53bmp My hemoglobin and hematocrit levels are 17gm/dl and 46%47%. I DO have severe acid reflux and a torn esophageal sphincter.
what is the appropriate oxygen saturation level for an 11 month old? if at 85% then a breathing treatment is done and then it goes back up to 92-93% is that suffecent improvment. ( fyi w/ bronchial infection) Also this was done in a dr's office so I'm not here seeking medical advise persay just am curious:)
What blood oxygen saturation is normal? Now for some reason this question was deleted before because i asked "what O2 sat would someone pass out at" and i honestly asked it in the most medical meaning possible. My grandmother is currently dying of pulmonary anemia and her oxygen level is somewhere between 75 and 85. My question is what happens at different O2 sats. What level is normal, what causes confusion, fainting, coma, and death... I honestly hope this question wont be deleted, because i feel that i have done nothing wrong in posting it, i am just wondering about anatomy.
Can low oxygen saturation be reversed? I've started using an oxygen concentrator during sleep. I'm only a few weeks into not smoking, and if I'm successful in never smoking again, can this low oxygen reverse itself? After 30 years of smoking I'm betting the damage is not reversible, but just checking anyway. The oxygen level drop was in the low 80s. Wondering if this problem has been going on for several years, could this be contributing to the worsening of my anger, edginess, short fuse, strange thinking, etc, over the years?
How can I sleep on oxygen therapy? My dr just put me on oxygen therapy at night because my oxygen saturation levels were dropping to about 82% at night (according to a sleep study). They brought the concentrator out Monday and I'm supposed to sleep with it on.....but, I can't sleep with it on. The last 2 nights I have lain there awake for 2 hours and finally had to turn it off so I could get any sleep at all. It kind of makes me feel funny....maybe it's just anxiety but it feels like my heart is doing flip flops/palpitations in my chest. I can doze off for a second and then awake in a panic with my heart racing. Plus, it's loud but I can't put it in the hall because we have dogs and cats in & out & I'm afraid one of them would chew up the tubing. And, I don't like anything on my face. Does anyone have any suggestions? Are there any possible negative side effects to using oxygen? I think I'm only on 2 lpm, that's not much is it? I think I'm just nervous about it.....can anyone put my mind at ease? Thanks.
Normal oxygen saturation level(s)? Hi, went to the ER because there was a spot on my tonsil that had looked like it may have been bleeding. I'm okay. We just went there because we it didn't look right, and we didn't really want to wait till later in the week (Which we would of had to) and thankfully went there. I was close to developing strep. But i just wanted to know, I saw that my Oxygen sat. was 96% at triage, and later when waiting I decided to put on the pulsox thing back on my finger and saw it go back between 97 and 98. But 96% would be considered normal right? Also what are some causes of lower oxygen saturation? I know I'm fine just wanting to know :) very interested in medical science. Can something as simple and insignificant as phlegm in the airways (from airborne seasonal allergies) cause a little bit of lowering? Thanks.
I have a very low oxygen saturation level. Lows around 70% to high of 88%. What are some possible causes? In the last four months, I've had a Ct scan, Hide-a-Scan, two heart studies, three halter monitors, sleep study,Sonogram, full body bone scan, endoscopy and complete blood work up. My cholesterol was slightly above normal. The sleep study showed I have sleep apnea. ( I now wear a C-Pap @ 17 psi w/ 5 lpm o2). The endoscopy showed some signs of mild damage due to aspirin and tylenol taken for the pain. The CT scan showed mild degeneration of L1 & L2 but otherwise nothing significant. (History of prostate cancer. Dr thought maybe the cancer had metastasized into the spine but bone scan showed no evidence of cancer) Moderate to severe pain in RUQ was diagnosed as costal condritis. Symptoms of this are improving. Bone chilling fatigue haunts me. I'm fairly certain that this is a direct result of the low o2 sats. Any ideas? So far, the doctors have not found out the problem. Thanks!
what are healthy levels of dissolved oxygen? what are healthy levels of dissolved oxygen? in % saturation? this is about environmental science and testing a water sample
Can bad circulation due to arthritus and carpal tunnel syndrom cause a low reading on an oxygen saturation lev? I got a reading below 89% on 1.4% of the time on an oxygen saturation level test. I sleep on my side and usually lay on my arm and wake in the am with my arm feeling with pins and needles (both arms, because I change positions). I know I have osteo-arthritus in my fingers and carpal tunnel syndrome. Can this be the cause of the test (the thing on the finger) being low.
90% Oxygen saturation level during pregnancy? I am 23 weeks pregnant today. Yesterday I was at my Primary with a sinus infection. I took a pulse-ox test which was 97% resting. After walking only a few minutes it dropped down to 90% and felt kinda hard to carry on a conversation with the nurse any longer. After returning to the room to sit, it jumped right back up to 97% again. Am I doing harm to the baby, just by walking around my house? How long can I be "up and around" at the 90% mark without doing damage? Added info: I have a ventricular heart murmur and recently moved to a higher altitude (6,000ft). Could that have any impact. (asking because ob/gyn's nurse won't return my call)
Asthma, oxygen saturation reading off? Also question about Xopenex (and nebulizer treatments in general).? Hi, I've been having some pretty bad asthma symptoms lately (bad enough where I went into the hospital last night). I was put on Prednisone 40 mg 2X daily. Anyway, my oxygen saturation was fine, and I'm wondering if my over-compensating breathing (i.e. I was trying to make up for my shallow breaths by taking more and taking them as deeply as possible, even though my chest was sore) would have highered it, when, if I had just let myself breathe without physically straining during the attack, it would have let my oxygen levels drop lower? There have also been times when I have a bad attack and my oxygen is close to normal, whereas a mild one is much lower. Could this be caused by my rapid breathing (in a desperate attempt to get more air in)? Lastly, can Xopenex nebulizer treatments cause high blood pressure temporarily (like 120/85)? I'm usually 90/60, but last night my BP was high. Thanks so much!
Oxygen saturation low after bowel surgery? My dad had some of his bowel removed on Saturday due to a tear in it and now has a temp colsosc. bag. His oxygen sat level is really low and he is having troubles with the breathing. Any ideas what causes this?
Reduced Blood Oxygen Levels after Exercise? Hi, all. Earlier this year, I had some pulmonary function tests performed. Overall, the results were normal. However, one of the results showed a decrease in my blood oxygen levels after doing a 6-minute brisk walk. My sitting blood oxygen level was measured at 98%. After exercise, the saturation was 94%. At the time, I hadn't done any regular exercise for a long time, so between that and my weight issues, the result is understandable. All my doctor said was to start exercising regularly and this should help. I've been doing daily cardio for a month now (30 minutes minimum) plus weight training and I don't feel like I'm making much, if any, headway. If I really exert myself, I feel like I can't catch my breath (I have a personal trainer who really pushes me...). I'm worried that this might not be a problem related to my lungs but rather my heart...that I've got blocked arteries and that's the reason why I have a low saturation level after exercising. I've had chest xrays done and they've come back normal. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas as to (1) why this might be happening and (2) what I could do to improve my lung function?
My oxygen level was 83 when I got pneumonia after H1N1. I can't make sense of this number. How low can it go? When the doctor told me that I had 83% oxygen saturation level, I thought that sounded pretty good. He was alarmed and thought I should go to the hospital. He explained to me why 83 wasn't good and he arranged for oxygen to be delivered to my home. I followed all doctors' orders in regard to oxygen treatment and now I fully understand the difference between 83 and normal oxygen levels. What I don't understand is the extent to which I was ill, in other words, what is the range of bad oxygen levels when patients get pneumonia? I don't know whether patients can have oxygen levels in the 50's, 60's, 70's and an 83 is a decent number or whether the most ill patients only go down to 80. In other words, how sick was I? I do know that 88 is the lowest acceptable level and that 95 is a normal level.
Select the correct statement about oxygen transport in blood:? 1) during normal activity, a molecule of hemoglobin returning to the lungs contains one molecule of O2 2) during conditions of acidosis, hemoglobin is able to carry oxygen more efficiently 3) increased BPG levels in the red blood cells enhance oxygen-carrying capacity 4) a 50% oxygen saturation level of blood returning to the lungs might indicate an activity level higher than normal
Is an oxygen concentrator normal treatment for sleep apnea, and can oxygen cause headaches? I've had several test where overnight I wore the thing on my finger to test my oxygen saturation levels, and apparently the levels went down because now the Dr. has ordered an oxygen concentrator to wear at night. We're doing another oxygen level test in a few weeks, to see if the concentrator helps. I'm just wondering if this is a normal first step, because I see a lot of people on here use other things. I've also noticed that I'm waking up with horrible headeaches after sleeping with the oxygen, is that normal? It's just a normal concentrator with a humidifier bottle and nasal canula. I don't think the headaches are from it being too tight, because it only goes over my ears and is just tight enough that it doesn't fall off.
Oxygen Levels? Is an oxygen saturation that reaches 80% in need of going to the hospital. My father has COPD and his O2 has been reading at 84 or lower. What does this mean?
What can happen to a 94-year-old man who is oxygen deprived? My elderly father was in a rehab facility recovering from pneumnia, gaining strength reaching his physical activity goal, and a week from coming home. He was suppose to be on 2L oxygen at all times to keep his saturation at a minimum of 92%. This particular day he was left with an empty tank for a few hours. His oxygen saturation had dropped to 86%. We got a new tank going andI thought everything would be fine. 12 hours later the facility called and said his oxygen level had dropped to 84% and he was being rushed to the ER. There I was told his organs were shutting down (I recall them mentioning liver, pancreas, and kidneys) and he was not going to make it. He died 24 hours later. Even though my father was not in the best of health, I believe he was neglected, and his death was pushed forward because the facility left him without oxygen for a few hours.
Oximeter and blood saturation chart? HI im looking for a chart that shows you the levels of blood saturation oxygen levels and how dire ones situation would be according todifferent levels I own an oximeter I need a chart...
Breathing problems. Is it possible to keep oxygen saturation in the flat equally high as outside? I sometimes have problems getting 100% oxygen from breathing. It is because my nose has reduced inhailing capability, it was broken as i was a kid... I see now, that if i go outside this problem virtually doesn't exist, but in my flat i get tired easely, and fell asleep sometimes. Normal ways like ventilation don't work that well and in the winter are rather impossible. Are there ways, special air conditioners or something medical, which can increase the oxygen level or regularely "pump" the fresh air from outside?? it is not about "my particular flat", it is in any flat . I.e. if many people are in the room without open windows i might fall asleep or experience blackout:(
What statement is correct regarding a pt who has a post-colon resection who is noting signs of lethargy? pls help... (the client also has a history of addison's disease) 1. review his pt controlled analgesia (PCA) record for dose history 2. assess for decreased urine output and bp 3. check pupils for direct consensual reaction 4. obtain pulse oximeter to check oxygen saturation level tnx... if it is okay, kindy put the rationale behind..and also the source tnx a lot!
Blood Oxygen Saturation? I'm an asthmatic yet for some reason I can get to the stage where I'm non-responsive to voice or general awareness of what's going on around me almost to the point of blacking out whilst having a Blood Oxygen Saturation of 96% At this stage I can hardly get any air in my lungs and in some cases have ended up on Bi-Pap. What would cause my levels to stay high but still get very little air into my lungs? Reason I ask is that some hospitals realize straight away that I'm not ok where others read my levels and tell me I'm fine send me home and I end up back in an I.C.U ward that same day.
My father 33% lung capacity and 80 pulse ox, how worried should I be? My father is 60 yrs old, smokes, is overweight, has diabetes, an enlarged heart, overproduces red blood cells, COPD, and has a 33% lung capacity with an 80% oxygen saturation level. I have not been given any real understanding of how severe this really is. I know that it is very bad, but how bad? Does he have weeks, months, years? Any understanding would be better than just knowing his statistics with no understanding of what they translate in to.
Can someone help me with these bilogy questions? Describe 3 real life of any situations where the parameters like Hb-Oxygen saturation, carbon dioxide levels, pH, and myoglobin levels in blood are measured Will hyperventilation raise or lower blood pO2? blood pCO2? blood pH? Why? Will emphysema raise or lower blood pO2? blood pCO2? blood pH? Why?
Oxygen Level For a Toddler? My nephew just went to the doc. His Oxygen Saturation was 83%. They are addmiting him into the hospital. What are they going to do to treat him! What is a normal oxygen saturation for a 2 year old boy? He has very bad asthema and allergies. Is there a point when your oxygen level is so low that it is dangerous?
toddlers oxygen level 83? Hi my cousin is 17 months and she has been put on a saturation monitor to test her oxygen levels. My aunty was given the machine to take home and they will review it tomorrow, she has always had problems with her lungs and has to take thickener in all her liquids. Tonight her oxygen level was 87 and when she coughed it went to 83. She is sleeping at the minute. should this be a cause of concern or will she be ok for the doctors to review it in the morning. Any advice would be great, Thanks
What is the role of the hospital nurse when looking after a breathless patient who has copd? I know that you look at the saturation levels, breathing rate, cynosis. Provide oxygen 2litres and sit the patient up right assess there sputum sample and give reassurance
WTF happened to me!!!? (brain damage)? friday night i popped 2 mg of diazepam, having a lower tolerance than i can remember, then saturday i got into the opiates. in the morning i drank two medium sized tasmanian pods, steeped into tea, to which i repeated around 6 that night. at 9pm i drank a tea spoon of codeine/promethazine, and at 10 i had two more. i was totally ****** in a good way. my friend was staying over and he had just got up a few hours before hand, and accepting that he wouldn't be able to fall asleep, kept an eye on me to make sure he didn't enter a coma. i woke up at 6, my friend said i was totally fine and we went out for coffee. i had not a hint of cyanosis at 1pm, and my breathing was pretty much back to normal. i had work at 3 so i hopped in a hot shower, hopping out into a steamy bathroom covered in mirrors. the firsti looked at shocked me, my lips had become a meager shade of pink/blue, and my fingers looked like clubs swung at the dawn of man!!!! the entire ******* night and day up until that point (7 hours awake llready) i was totally cool, only to take a shower and completely lose it upon finishing. i was soberng up when it happened, and not even nodding anymore. i live with my mom who agreed my nails looked blue, then i had to go to work (where more people agreed) where i felt as though a squirrel were stuck in his throat (couldn't breathe properly), so he left to go to the e.r. when i got to the emergency room they said my blood oxygen saturation level was 100 percent, and that a temp change may have been responsible?! bullshit. how the **** did this happen? my blue lips disappeared seconds after i got out of the shower but the fingers lingered. do you think this level of oxygen deprivation hurt my brain/killed brain cells??? i was definitely breathing in the shower ... i just took that shower and noticed the exfoliated broken skin around my lips after a hot shower resembles pictures of cerulean lips iv'e seen online... though again my fingernails were def turning an ice cold porsche blue. could i have had vasoconstriction without it affecting my head? i ask because my tips still looked a little purple after the nurse said my oxygen level was perfect? how long does that blue discoloration take to get rid of if one starts breathing heavily?
What would one experience after having coronary artery bypass surgery? I'm finishing up a case study review for college in which i have to write up signs and symptoms for different diseases this guy has, and for some reason i also have to write up signs and symptoms for the coronary artery bypass surgery he had. What would i include in it? mostly i need help with vital signs eg; is his blood pressure lowered or high, would his oxygen saturation levels be notmal or lowered etc. thanks! Just to make is easier to understand, here's the way i've been presenting for other questions: Signs and Symptoms of Myocardial Infarction: -Shortness of breath (normal range; 12-20 resps per minute) -Nausea -Weak, rapid pulse (normal range; 60-90 beats per minute) -Back, arm and jaw pain -High blood pressure (normal range; 100-120/60-80 mmHg) -Decreased oxygen saturation (normal range; 96%-100%) -lightheadedness or loss of consciousness

Continuous Carbon Dioxide (Co2) monitoring from blood? Are there any devices which give me continous carbon dioxide level in blood ? Pulse oximeter which gives Oxygen saturation level of blood does it indirectly gives the level of Co2 in blood ?
What do you cal this medical instrument? I was wondering what do you call the instrument that the nurse uses at the hospital, plastic thing that clamps your finger with a red light inside that checks your level of blood oxygen saturation
how does a FINGER OXIMETER work? i already went to howstuffworks.com but i need more detail, i already know that it takes blood-oxygen saturation (SpO2) level and pulse-rate, what i need is how the SENSORS inside work. thanks!
Why do people with asthma have? low oxygen saturations ( levels) ???
Algebra Help needed!!!1? 1- The oxygen saturation level of a river is found by dividing the amount of dissolved oxygen the river water currently has per liter by the dissolved oxygen capacity per liter. If the river currently has 7.3 milligrams of dissolved oxygen per liter of water and the dissolved oxygen capacity is 9.8 milligrams per liter, What is the oxygen saturation level, to the nearest percent. 2- If a marble is randomly chosen from a bag that contains exactly 8 red marbles, 6 blue marbles, and 6 white marbles, what is the probability that the marble will not be white? 3- So far, a student has earned the fallowing scores on four 100 points tests this grading period:65,73,81 and 82. What score must the student earn on the fifth and last 100 point test of the grading period to earn an average grade of 80 for the 5 tests. 75,76,78,99 OR THE student can't earn an average of 80. why cant i breath been going on 4 days now!!!? im constantly breathless! i have ectopic heartbeats that the cardiologist said was down to stress, i have had 2 holter mons, a chest xray, blood work (about 10 months ago, does that count?) a heart trace and heart scan all were normal or showing benign ectopic beats, i was so breathless the other day i went to AnE the dr said i didnt look anemic and my oxygen saturation level was 100 which is good she put it down to anxiety, BUT i am constantly breathless and im not working myself up or breathing really fast like a typical panic i need to know whats up with me and i feel like no one i go to really gives 1! im 23 5ft 6 a little over weight but nothing drastic, i dont smoke or drink no they didnt do bloods, they just said it was anxiety
COPD, what will 02 saturation be at sea level? my husband has COPD. his o2 saturation is between 87% - 89% at night without his oxygen. we live in colorado (alt 5000 ft). we are traveling to sea level. will he still need to sleep with oxygen? i am looking for people who have COPD, and have experience with altitude changes.
"Pulse-ox" reading inaccurate? Hi, I've been having some pretty bad asthma symptoms lately (bad enough where I went into the hospital last night). I was put on Prednisone 40 mg 2X daily. Anyway, my oxygen saturation was fine, and I'm wondering if my over-compensating breathing (i.e. I was trying to make up for my shallow breaths by taking more and taking them as deeply as possible, even though my chest was sore) would have highered it, when, if I had just let myself breathe without physically straining during the attack, would it have made my oxygen levels drop lower? There have also been times when I have a bad attack and my oxygen is close to normal, whereas with a mild one, the reading is much lower. Could this be caused by my rapid breathing (in a desperate attempt to get more air in)? Thanks! Would the nail polish, poor circulation, and cold hands cause a LOWER reading than normal, or a higher reading? (If you don't mind, can you hit the "edit" on your answer and add that in please? I don't think you can reply to a question twice. :) Thank you so much!) Oh my gosh! That could explain why it read normal ... I'm very anemic (Ferritin was 7 I believe). Thank you so much!
Allegra, Allegra D, and Nasacort AQ for a sleep problem? I recently went in for a sleep study because I'm always tired during the day. I usually woke up in the middle of the night and couldn't get back to sleep. My doctor sent me to and ear, nose, and throat specialist after the study. The results said I slept fairly good but had a problem with my oxygen saturation, it was about 83%. The specialist said there was something that was keeping me from getting oxygen in my blood. He assumed my breathing was restricted and prescribed a sinus rinse followed by Nasacort AQ twice a day, Allegra D in the morning, and Allegra at night. I have not found any information on any of these drugs that go along with what the doctor told me (or at least what I understood). I was just curious of how this helps my oxygen levels in my blood or if there was some other reason that it seems to be working. I have only been on the medication for about a week but I can't believe how much of a difference it has made (except for feeling crappy and disoriented the first day). I don't go back to the doctor for a few weeks but I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with these types of drugs for increasing oxygen levels (if that's what they are really doing). Does anyone have information on this?
What is all this medical jargon and what does it mean?!? When I was in hospital these were my stats.. I got these from my medical record and was wondering if someone could help me interpret what they mean and what the abbreviations stand for.. -My GCS (glasgow coma scale) was 3 -oxygen saturation 76% -borderline prolong QT interval -co2 levels 38 -Had a ng tube -ventilated -had an ambu bag -temp 34 degrees what does all this indicate or mean?!? Thanks :)
what the **** happened!!? friday night i popped 2 mg of diazepam, having a lower tolerance than i can remember, then saturday i got into the opiates. in the morning i drank two medium sized tasmanian pods, steeped into tea, to which i repeated around 6 that night. at 9pm i drank a tea spoon of codeine/promethazine, and at 10 i had two more. i was totally f'ed in a good way. my friend was staying over and he had just got up a few hours before hand, and accepting that he wouldn't be able to fall asleep, kept an eye on me to make sure he didn't enter a coma. i woke up at 6, my friend said i was totally fine and we went out for coffee. i had not a hint of cyanosis at 1pm, and my breathing was pretty much back to normal. i had work at 3 so i hopped in a hot shower, hopping out into a steamy bathroom covered in mirrors. the firsti looked at shocked me, my lips had become a meager shade of pink/blue, and my fingers looked like clubs swung at the dawn of man!!!! the entire fucking night and day up until that point (7 hours awake llready) i was totally cool, only to take a shower and completely lose it upon finishing. i was soberng up when it happened, and not even nodding anymore. i live with my mom who agreed my nails looked blue, then i had to go to work (where more people agreed) where i felt as though a squirrel were stuck in his throat (couldn't breathe properly), so he left to go to the e.r. when i got to the emergency room they said my blood oxygen saturation level was 100 percent, and that a temp change may have been responsible?! bullshit. how the fuck did this happen? my blue lips disappeared seconds after i got out of the shower but the fingers lingered. do you think this level of oxygen deprivation hurt my brain/killed brain cells??? i was definitely breathing in the shower ... i just took that shower and noticed the exfoliated broken skin around my lips after a hot shower resembles pictures of cerulean lips iv'e seen online... though again my fingernails were def turning an ice cold porsche blue. could i have had vasoconstriction without it affecting my head? i ask because my tips still looked a little purple after the nurse said my oxygen level was perfect? how long does that blue discoloration take to get rid of if one starts breathing heavily?
How do you find the amount of oxygen released to muscles in physiology? Assume that at rest the avg blood flow to the skeletal muscle is 100 ml/min with about 20 ml of oxygen per 100 ml of arterial blood (at sea level). What about at maximum exercise or at high elevation? How to calculate this isn't making any sense to me and I've found no help anywhere else. I know you need to use a hemoglobin oxygen saturation curve, but I'm not sure how to read it. Only helpful suggestions--no criticism, please!
How common is Deja Vu with dementia? My dad is in the early stages of dementia. Neither his doctors or us (his family) are sure which kind. It could be Alzheimer's, or it could be a slow dying-off of brain cells due to hypoxemia. That term basically means lower-than-ideal levels of oxygen are reaching the brain, due to a reduced oxygen saturation of the blood, which in my dad's case, is due to his very advanced COPD (emphysema & chronic bronchitis). At any rate, lately when we watch movie rentals, he comments that the movie looks extremely familiar (even when I *know* he's never watched it before). Sometimes he even picks out specific scenes, where he marvels at how familiar all the people, places and actions of the scene are! I did a tiny bit of online research and found one article (or study) that said something about damage to certain parts of the brain can lead to increased deja vu, but I'm not sure what I read. Can anyone shed some light on HOW and WHY certain forms of dementia could cause someone to have increased deja vu? (Also, do you think it will get worse?) Thanks!!
Why did my doctor have me do a sleep study and not follow up with it? I did a sleep study for my doctor because he thought I had sleep apnea. Well I did it, and the sleep apnea doctor called me back the same night after I did it, and told me I had Mild sleep apnea, but his concern was with my low oxygen levels. He said he wanted me to stay at my house and sleep with a cpap machine and check my oxygen levels for a night, and he said my doctor would call me back or the company that does the equipment, well low and behold noone calls me for over a month, so I called the office and they said they hadn't received the results yet. So anyway I had to take my daughter to the same doctor today and while I was there I asked him if he received the results yet, and he told me to ask the office girls? (what a doctor) so I go out there and ask the office workers if they received them, well low and behold they had received them the day after I had it done, and the doctor I guess just doesn't look at his patients info when it is faxed in. I guess the dumb office workers just glance at it and file. So anyways they gave me a copy of this fax and the sleep doctor has all this stuff he suggests that my doctor do like have done what he told me with the cpap machine, and also maybe look into surgury, and he suggested a pulmonary and cardiac evaluation since I'm only 30. I don't understand why my doctor just doesn't do anything about this, The sleep doctor said on this report my lowest saturation of sleep oxygen was reduced to 63.1%. I think that is pretty bad. I have trouble breathing when I try to go to sleep without taking something to sleep, because when I take something I don't have to think about it, I just get zonked out. What should I do? I want to defiantly change doctors, but can he get in trouble for this, or since this doctor just suggested it would it not matter. I feel so uncared for at this doctors office, why have me do a sleep study and not even look at my results. Someone please give me info and advice I need so badly. If I change doctors and give them these results will the insurance still go by them and let my new doctor help me?

Mom has Systemic MRSA- daughter looking for a straight answer, pls.? My mother was attacked 2 weeks ago and is now in the hospital in a catatonic state. Although she has multiple fractures, I am more concerned with these other conditions: My mom has sytemic MRSA, which means it is everywhere, blood, sputim, urine, everywhere. She has a large abcess taking up almost one side of her face, most likely stemming from an orbital fracture. It is cleaned and drained daily. She also has pneumonia. She also has hepatitis C, which she has had for many years and has not treated, so her liver is in very bad shape. There is no brain damage from the attack. The docs think her mental state is more of post traumatic stress reaction. We are all just waiting...everyday there is no change. She is on oxygen, a high saturation, but is breathing on her own. They have had to suction out her lungs a few times, and had to suction her nose 2 days ago when her oxygen sat level dropped dramatically and suddenly. Are there any nurses or docs out there who could just give me your honest opinion about what our family may need to prepare for? I am so thankful for the care they are giving her, but her docs are just so vague, we feel like we don't know anything at all. I forgot to mention that they are giving mom 8 liters of oxygen thru a nose tube with larger than normal holes. Also mom has been on a feeding tube since she arrived on the 24th of July.
did i damage my brain? this morning i thought i may have stopped breathing because my fingernails took a grey blue appearance and i needed to "test" myself to see if oxygen was responsible, as brain damage rightly makes me paranoid. so i made my breathing very shallow, still getting a small breath or two every 6-10 seconds, but making sure to exhale completely for several minutes, and then was to check on my fingernails for cyanosis. when the first experiment yielded no conclusion, i repeated probably 3 more times, in shorter intervals. when i was marginally satisfied that my skin color had little to do with my air intake, i put my finger in an oximiter (measure blood air saturation to give my mind peace). i started to breathe as i had during the questioned period (and how i breathed thereafter) for a few minutes and saw my oxygen level go from 99% to 98%, on a constant staircase downward. i continued this for a few minutes, managing to spike my o2 levels to 94% or possibly lower for a few infinite seconds, to realize my brain may have been sufficiently deprived of oxygen for some time. i panicked and to make sure my oximiter wasn't buggy, retested myself 3 or 4 more times, bringing my blood sat levels to 95 and 94 percent, still now believing each of these tests on the validity of the oximiter caused more brain cells o die, even if i was only that low for no more than 5 seconds. in total i spent a fair amount of time not breathing today, and by textbook definition a fair amount of time hypoxic, with apnea. do you think i lost brain cells or caused brain damage from my neurotic worsening of the scenario which initiated today's events? thank you okay, do you think i lost enough brain cells to ever realize it?

They did ECHO and Stress. im waiting for ECHO results but stress test came back awesome.. as the doctor said.. *awesome* I have chronic Anxiety.. panic attacks etc.. about a month ago i devloped severe Shortness of breath *still had 100 % oxygen saturation from the finger thing* but i was feeling short of breath ALLLLLL DAY and night so i thought it would go away and it didnt then i devloped chest pains which are quite scary so here i am AGAIN calling ems.. they still hit me even today sometimes it feels exactually where the heart is at.. and sometimes in other places.. sometimes i feel a pulling sensation chest area.. but it goes away.. and mostly comes on when im VERY VERY NERVOUS!.. didn't think anxiety could cause that kinda closeness to major heart diease... so again...i searched and searched for any other suggestions.. looked and looked for hours on the PC HOURS! and days.. my exact symptoms.. and BAM Chest pain Shortness of breath *non cardiac* or lungs they did a lung test PERFECTLY FINE!!!!!!! Im 18 btw.. so i started and started and started and BAM ! when my dad had the heart attack i stoped eating all kinds of meats and dairy .. nothing but salads all day.. almost no SAT FAT IN ANYTHING... I kept looking and looking and looking AND BAM Vitamin B12 DEFIENCY symptoms EXACTUALY!!!!!! as said... on WEBMD and other medical websites.. so i took it apon my self to Get Some VitaminB12 Tabs from SamsClub MembersMark Vitamin B12 with high potency.. the one underthe tung thing WHICH TASTES AWESOME LIKE CANDY.. i just started taking them last night my symptoms are still there but NOT as bad? as they have been for the last 3 weeks..if it is Vitamin b12 definciny.. can it be possible that my fatigue is caused by that.. and my memory concentration really scrambled can that be because of vitamin b12 and can it cause shortness of breath? and chest pains? if so please explain to me if yall have it and what you have done to elievate it some what.. or all of it i get enough iron they checked for tapeworm non and liver kindney and everything else is fine.. could it be Vitamin b12 and Possibly Chronic Anxiety making me feel like im always dying and the Lorazapam calms me down when having chest pains... but they come and go and come and go sometimes on the right side sometimes on the left side I really hope yall took the time to read this and hopeffully will give me some experience yall may or may not have.. and if possible its vitamin b12 im also taking anothor vitamin supplement Centrum multimineral supplement Thanks for taking the time to read PLEASE READ THIS TO: yestarday i was feeling sucidale homocidale i went to the ER room and complained of chest pain to check me EKG fine.. Academic question part 2!!!!!!? BACKGROUND A 41-year-old man presents with fever, malaise, and a 20-lb weight loss over the past 3 months. The patient also has intermittent headaches, coughing with occasional hemoptysis, and multiple chronic skin lesions. The lesions initially appeared as hyperpigmented scaly plaques on his lower back (see Image 1). They have enlarged over the last year, spreading to his arms, nose (see Images 2-3), and penis (see Image 4). The lesions are not itchy or painful. Over the last few weeks, the lesions on the patient’s nose and penis have begun to ulcerate and produce a bloody, purulent discharge. The patient was diagnosed with HIV infection 13 years ago. He denies having any chest discomfort, shortness of breath, nausea, or diarrhea. He has not traveled recently and has not had any contact with people who were sick. He has not spent any time in environments where the risk of tuberculosis is high (eg, prison, shelters). On physical examination, the patient is afebrile with a blood pressure of 116/58 mm Hg and a heart rate of 92 bpm. His respiratory rate is 14 breaths/min, and his oxygen saturation while breathing room air is 96%. On his nose is a crusted, indurated plaque with irregular borders and central ulceration that produces thick, blood-tinged, suppurative discharge (see Image 3). A nontender oval-shaped crusted plaque with superficial ulceration is located on his penis at the base of the glans (see Image 4). Numerous skin-colored umbilicated papules, of about 3-6 mm and with central hemorrhagic crusts, are scattered irregularly on his arms and face (see Image 2). A diffuse, hyperpigmented lichenification of the skin is noted on his back, with many small areas of superficial ulceration (see Image 1). No retinal lesions are noted on funduscopic examination. No frank nuchal rigidity is present; however, the patient expresses moderate discomfort with neck flexion. The lungs are clear to auscultation with no rales, rhonchi, or wheezing; the cardiac examination is normal. The remainder of the physical examination yields unremarkable results. The patient is transferred to the adjoining emergency department (ED) and, because infectious meningitis is suspected, is placed in respiratory isolation. A lumbar puncture reveals an opening pressure of 22 cm H2O. A cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) sample is sent for laboratory evaluation and shows a WBC count of 450/mm33 (0.450 X 109/L) with a mononuclear predominance, a mildly elevated protein level, and a slightly decreased glucose concentration. India ink staining reveals the presence of fungi. What is the etiology of the patient’s symptoms? Are all of the lesions from the same disease process?
In metabolically active tissues you would expect? A) the % saturation of hemoglobin will be less than it is near the lungs. B) the partial pressure of oxygen will be higher than in the alveoli. C) The pH will be slightly higher than it is in the fluid close to the lungs. D) The partial pressure of carcon dioxide will be at its lowest level. E) All of the above
HOW WILL THE PHILIPPINE TECHNOLOGY IMPROVE THE ATMOSPHERE? Oxygen (O2) which is given off by plants (crops & trees), photosynthetic bacteria, algae & other beneficial bacteria, etc., is the common denominator of the main elements such as carbon, nitrogen, sulfur, oxygen and hydrogen to form compounds. In the case of carbon, with 5 sources of CO2 emissions coming from: by order of intensity, decay microorganisms as first, agriculture & forestry as second, animals as third, man as fourth and transportation & industries as fifth, CO2 has been considered a public enemy for heating up earth while O2 could not keep up the pace in cooling land surface from the sun’s radiation. At worse, carbon, in the absence O2, instead takes up hydrogen to form methane, graduating the level of heat one step higher. Thus, global warming could not be stopped as ozone continues to be depleted further, losing its purpose in shielding earth from severe solar radiation, when the supply of O2 is at its lowest. Some or most scientists say that natural forces keep the required levels O2 & CO2 in the atmosphere balance or constant. Yes, it is true. But since ozone layer is destroyed, parts per minute of CO2 have increased and CH4 is hovering in the atmosphere for more than a decade, there is a defect in managing the environment and that is, the deficiency of O2. Like the 10,000 deaths in the July-August 2003 phenomenon in France, the author Winston Kayanan from the Philippines considered it as a matter of temporary loss or shortage of O2 rather than EEA’s findings in November 2003 as ozone pollution. Although earth tends to cure itself by carbon sink (i.e., entry of CO2 in the ocean) in order to maintain the leverage or ratio of O2 & CO2 in the atmosphere, this should not be the case otherwise man is abusing nature. The domicile of carbon is land and not the sea because CO2’s resultant compound which is carbonic acid, is more needed for soil nourishment & for growth of plants. It should be noted however that carbon is scarce because our atmosphere is comprised of 70% nitrogen and 30% O2 while CO2 is just a small percentage. And earth is comprised of 70% ocean and 30% land and hence, we should make use of these 2 elements (i.e., carbon & O2) well than neglect or throw them away since both sustain life for organisms on land. As such, the Philippine technology is directed to this goal in utilizing & making these elements work & perform rightfully in the hope of saving man & saving earth. The presence of the toxic carbon monoxide (CO), nitric oxide (NO), hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2) at high levels in the atmosphere is closely connected with the internal combustion of coal-fired plants and auto exhausts of engines. Other air pollutants such as sulfur dioxide (SO2) and nitric oxide (NO) which are produced from burning of fossil fuels and smelting operation, absorb substantial amounts of heat from its surroundings in the presence of sunlight (catalyzed). These gases are part of the forces that expand earth’s soil, aided by radiant energy via thermal expansion & gas pressure. Moreover, these oxides like sulfur dioxide (SO2), sulfur trioxide (SO3) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2) are in contact with rain (H2O). These will then be neutralized to form diluted sulfurous acid (H2SO3), sulfuric acid (H2SO4) and nitric acid (HNO3) during wet seasons, or all better known as acid rain. With higher concentrations of acid rain, this destroys the fertility of the soils as well as its floods. As such, the Philippine technology has the capability to neutralize acidity & alkalinity because of the development of resultant bases coming from the implanted organic waste materials. In some instances, there will be large amounts of CO2 that will settle down earth’s surface since CO2 is heavier than O2 & O3 (scientific fact) as their motion & kinetic energy are reduced. All beneficial microorganisms (like cyanobacteria & other photosynthetic bacteria, stromatolites of the algae, etc.) will then feast, take up & consume CO2 and replace it with O2. The Philippine technology was meant for this purpose as one because the implanted land will produce about quadrillion metric tons of O2 a day (first action). In this vein, it will repair the stratosphere’s depleted O3 layer with the intermingling of O2 to O2 to form O3, and that layer (acting both as earth’s shield from the sun’s ultraviolet rays) will cover earth again, like a blanket, to minimize the severe entry of solar radiation (second action), causing destructive & mysterious phenomena in the environment. O2 can then neutralize the magnitude of heat-absorbing & heat-trapping CO2, methane (CH4) and other greenhouse gases thereby proportionately lowering both air temperature (by less absorption from sun’s radiation) and air pressure (by decrease in gas molecular speed) as well as decreasing saturation pressure (third action). And the earth’s atmosphere, land surface and bodies of water will recover from their loss of gas pressure & radiant energ
What is wrong with him? Post-pneumonia.? My dad spent one month in the hospital with h1n1/viral pneumonia. He originally went there for what his doctor told him was pleurisy. After four days right before discharge he went into some sort of relapse and they found he had viral pneumonia and tests later found he had H1N1. Now he is at home and he is having some complications. 1. He has a high heart rate. His heart rate at rest is anywhere from 98-105. When he was on oral prednesone his heart rate at rest would stay anywhere from 105-120 at rest. He finished his cycle yesterday Sept 05 2009. He has been on some sort of corticosteroid for the past 2 months so it's probably still in his system. When he just stands up and walks a few feet his heart rate jumps. When he is sitting to eat his heart rate maintains itself in the 120-140 range, usually doesn't surpass 140. He doesn't try to do much more because his heart rate will just increase and he cannot shower because once he did and it hopped to the 160s. 2. He has trouble defecating because of the pain that is caused when he goes. He is able to produce but it's just very painful. I think he has hemorrhoids. He does use some suppositories but I do not see their effectiveness. 3. He says his rectum feels like it is burning or like it is irritated. As well as his penis and testicles. He is sedentary for the majority of the day. 4. His diet is free of spices and grease; my mom makes sure of this. 5. He eats a lot but has a very picky appetite, he'll only eat what he wants. 6. He is 5'6, 220 pounds, and he is 48 years old. 7. He has mild shortness of breath and barely ever gets chest pain. 8. He is taking xopenex, lysinopril, mucinex and was on solumedrol at the hospital and on prednisone at home thru oral consumption. MY questions is what is wrong with him? We have been to the pulmonologist many times and he tells us that his pneumonia is still there and he is in much better condition than how he was at the hospital. Two cardiologists have told him that his heart is fine and is working correctly. He was on Level 3 respiratory aid with a mask with a huge bag on it. But the night before, thanks to God, they had to remove all that oxygen and put him back on the most basic machine. He is somewhat pale but I can see some color in his face. Any ideas of what it could be? He has had cancer, anemia, and HIV AIDS testing and they all are negative. His doctors say they don't know what is causing all this. I really hope it is the anti inflammatory steroids that he was on and his body reacting to it. He does have the 'moon face.' He has a pulse oximeter and it reads: Saturation: Anywhere from 93-97 Pulse: 98-140 [As mentioned above.] Please doctors on here give me some insight. He has a dry cough no production and doesn't really cough a whole lot throughout the day.
Limnology questions...temperature related to light penetration? How is temperature related to light penetration? # According to the 2002 data, percent saturation of oxygen is over 100%. What two factors contribute to this? # How are temperature and dissolved oxygen related? # What accounts for low dissolved oxygen levels at the bottom of the lake? # Why is pH lower at the bottom of the lake? I'm getting these questions from here, if you'd like to check it out: http://web.cortland.edu/broyles/limnology.html Thank you SOOOO much!!!!
Oxygen Level For a Toddler? My nephew just went to the doc. His Oxygen Saturation was 83%. They are addmiting him into the hospital. What are they going to do to treat him! What is a normal oxygen saturation for a 2 year old boy?

Oxygen pill - is there such a thing, does it work, is it available in the US? Someone told me that, in Europe, oxygen pills are available, and that they really work to bring your oxygen saturation level up. Were they pulling my leg? If not, is there a way to purchase them in the US? OK guys. I'm not a complete idiot. We are obviously not talking about a pill made of O2. This is a pill that is supposedly touted for somehow increasing a person's O2 saturation level. I don't know what it is made of or how it works. Has anyone heard of such an animal?
